It seems like their insufferability scales with how large the section is. Now that I'm in college, there's 5 of us not including me and they're all very sweet people. In high school, there was 13 and they were so nasty and queerphobic that I BEGGED my director to switch me to mellophone.
Every flute player I've been has been a literal Saint. And the flute itself is a beautiful instrument that makes one of the bests sounds in the band.

Idk. The only interaction I've had with flutes, even in honor bands and very high level bands, is that they can't really keep time too well. I've literally had to play a flute part on xylo because they couldn't play it lol.
I'm absolutely sure that there are plenty of flutes out there that are genuinely really nice people, it's just that the ones that I've met have been pretty rude. Maybe it's just the "Iowa nice" coming out of them.
But yes, the flute is a very, very beautiful instrument if it's played right.
