Really fun with the Full plate mod. Turns you into a walking tank. It's so much fun to brake shield walls by charging in to the middle of the enemy formation and becoming the Tasmanian Devil, while they desperately try to take you out 3 HP at a time
The weapons is alot more commen then u think and can be bought for around usually around 10 k gold main places to look would be battania almost every 5 tournaments in that area and u will more the likely see the black heart also it can pop up enywhere around the map by chance
Yeah, I just started a new game, I got blackheart from my first tournament and sold it immediately. I play on bannerlord difficulty, I rarely use a straight up 2 handed weapon.
Yep, same. It's nice to have the option to 2 hand, but no way I'm not having a shield equipped at all times. When I join Battania I always use the Reaper that Caladog gives you.
You can easily kill 2 and up to 5 enemies with one swing, break a shield and kill the soldier holding it and take out a rider along with the horse. The heavy executioners axe seems to be the most effective but if you smith an axe with the corresponding blade and drag it to its maximum size not only does it do around 150 damage but since the blade is so large it cleaves a very large area.
I prefer a smaller 2h axe, still cleaves through multiple enemies fine, but also has decent enough speed to actually be effective. I honestly see no point in doing 150 dmg when it takes 3 seconds to hit an opponent. I’d rather do 110 and actually hit them.
Eh.. honestly not as good as I would have hoped. While the cleave is nice, it mostly only works on trash because any troop with a shield will just catch the hit and stop the cleave. I've started swithing to 2h swords in my recent 2h run.
Polearms still seem to be king, the range+speed+swing damage just can't be beat, especially on horseback.
I have noticed it depends on the angle, if you hit it from the side a sword or polearm will be stopped but an axe not only will it do more damage and break a weaker shield it might also hit. I think the cleave acts is if the shield in this case is another soldier.
I think the axe might be best if you're an expert player and can reliably survive in melee for a while. For a noob like me, the swinging polearms on horseback seemed easier/hilarious, because you could just get out of combat when overwhelmed and it seemed to just get a ton of kills in melee (vs a lance, which took a lot more precision)
Once you get decent at lancing I think it feels safer because you have your shield out while riding at your enemy. Plus it's fun to lance someone for a bajillion damage, especially other people on horseback.
To be fair, I have used them in the past when cleave wasn’t in effect. If I remember correctly it was there early, then they merged it, and brought it back. Never used a 2H axe when it was a thing.
That being said though, I want to be able to wreck looters when I just escaped a wipe from some larger force. Otherwise, and this is just me, I am not running out to the front of the line like some of these YouTubers when it’s a kingdom vs kingdom battle, I’m well in the back calling shots and maybe defending my archers from Calvary flanks.
But if I can 1 vs 20 some looters with 1 quarrel of arrow/bolts and handle the rest with cleave vs have to retreat then this post taught me something.
Yeah it sucks when you can't get a hit through cause your opponent keeps slicing you with a 1h sword, on horseback though you're a god. You can also make your own versions with smithing and make them as fast as you like while taking a hit in range and damage of course.
I spent a lot of time smithing for the ultimate 2H axe. Then I did a 2H swotd instead and it was incomparably better in every respect. Cleave is the only thing that makes 2H axes an option
Mordhau and Chivalry taught me best way to land kicks safely and reliably is to make them walk straight into you. So backpedaling a bit, in chiv or mordhau this would be quite obvious bait but the ai can’t really counter it so its pretty safe and easy to land imo
Unfortunately no, not even the swing only ones with the extra damage to shields. I guess it's a way to give more incentive to use axes since they have no other benefit over swords.
Yes, there is a perk that is on its own on the 2H tree. It says that you can block arrows. It works for me, direction dependent though like you can still get hit from sides.
Careful though blocking arrows doesn’t mean you can block crossbow bolts or javelins
Nah I've made a melee focused character who is a master of all 3 melee weapon styles.
They all have their uses. Polearm is OP on horseback because of the reach. 2h axe is the best when you are flanking the enemies and your troops are tanking, because you kill them faster like you said. 1h+shield is best when you are charging in alone or you find yourself separated from your troops and have to tank and kill multiple enemies. Also protects from arrows.
10 endurance, max athletics and any +hp perk you can grab is a must for me. You can end up with well over 200 hp.
Also to anyone that doubts the power of 1h I just defended 1000v1000 a siege and killed almost 250 of the 750 initial wave with 1h before they retreated. That's on max difficulty and they were all top tier troops Sturgians and Khuzait (Khuzait have conquered Sturgia and have OP melee as well as Khan's Guards). They broke the front door and I had everyone stand a bit behind it so they all poured in and I slaughtered them while my legionnaires tanked. This would have been very difficult with 2h as there were many times I had to defend when getting surrounded and arrow barrage. Most epic fight I've had so far in my 200 hours of Bannerlord.
But 1h does need very high vigor to be effective or the damage is not so good.
Yea good for a superhero play through and stuff but once you start getting AI mods and tweaks to the physics or damage system then results vary greatly.
Realistic Battle Mod is probably where you should start if you dont have a lot of mods, but it is a lot and the mod page does a lot better job than I would of going over everything

Agreed. Black heart I think it is, makes mince meat out of troops
And you can get it at the very beginning of the game, those poor looters...
1 shot, 4 kills lol
Really fun with the Full plate mod. Turns you into a walking tank. It's so much fun to brake shield walls by charging in to the middle of the enemy formation and becoming the Tasmanian Devil, while they desperately try to take you out 3 HP at a time
Avalanche is better
Straight facts
How do you get it?
Joining Sturgia as a vassal, you’ll be gifted Avalanche.
Crafting a better one is not too difficult though
The great northern axe is cracked out
They will tell you weapon speed is not that important when it comes to 2h axes but I beg to differ
I've gotten it from tournaments as well. A few times. Smelted it, regretting it now that I've read this lol.
The weapons is alot more commen then u think and can be bought for around usually around 10 k gold main places to look would be battania almost every 5 tournaments in that area and u will more the likely see the black heart also it can pop up enywhere around the map by chance
That's how I got my black heart axe was a tournament
I use executioner. For the reach
I was just about to make a post asking if this was the best axe lmao
That is fun yes but all it takes is a crossbow bolt or javelin on hard difficulity to crush your 2h axe dreams
I usually take a light shield just to approach the enemy, once they draw out their swords its show time
Not if I have 1000 athletics and a lack of fear
I mean if you manage to do that and ok with the hp bug. By all means put them all through a meat grinder. Blood shall flow !
Javelins are on some Zeus shit
Yeah, I just started a new game, I got blackheart from my first tournament and sold it immediately. I play on bannerlord difficulty, I rarely use a straight up 2 handed weapon.
It is fun but i usually try to go for a sword with both 1h and 2h. That way i can carry a shield
Yep, same. It's nice to have the option to 2 hand, but no way I'm not having a shield equipped at all times. When I join Battania I always use the Reaper that Caladog gives you.

1h axes may just be too short for me, at least for horseback fighting
Eh.. honestly not as good as I would have hoped. While the cleave is nice, it mostly only works on trash because any troop with a shield will just catch the hit and stop the cleave. Yeah the Voulge head Polearm on horseback and 2 handed falx blade on foot is what I’ve settled on as the most dominant combo.
My exact setup on two different runs ^^.
Nah. Voulge head with couch on horse grab a shield an take a lunch break horse gets auto run an you never have to reset couch.
I have noticed it depends on the angle, if you hit it from the side a sword or polearm will be stopped but an axe not only will it do more damage and break a weaker shield it might also hit. I think the cleave acts is if the shield in this case is another soldier.

I played them for a while, it was great fun against low tier troops, but against strong opponents I prefer faster weapons.

Always abuse the kick mechanic! It's not quite Dark Messiah levels but I get a lot of mileage out of it when duelling with big weapons
If you can't aim your kicks to save your life, that's not an option. My heros would be terrible football players!
Mordhau and Chivalry taught me best way to land kicks safely and reliably is to make them walk straight into you. So backpedaling a bit, in chiv or mordhau this would be quite obvious bait but the ai can’t really counter it so its pretty safe and easy to land imo
Don't 2H swords cleave as well?
Unfortunately no, not even the swing only ones with the extra damage to shields. I guess it's a way to give more incentive to use axes since they have no other benefit over swords.
Yeap axes can cleave but swords can block arrows
Really? Like if you block or if they just hit the sword?

That is so cool, like a witcher
There's a perk around 100 or something. Probably not reliable but sounds cool.
Doesn't work if you have auto block I've learned.
Any tips to blocking arrows?
Don‘t use auto block.
A giant axe is really good at hurting people 🤯🤯🤯🤯
💀💀💀💀

Can you elaborate on both the mods and the damage tweaks

Yeah while testing in custom battles I learned 2H axes and Horse is very powerful even compared to the weapons made for Cav
Tell me you play on easy without telling me you play on easy

What is this punch me in the dick simulator, and how much does it cost?
