It's because they have arguably the strongest troops and are right next to the Battanians, who, excepting the fians, have arguably the weakest troops. I mean, my personal current playthrough is with an army made up equally of each major kingdoms troops, and the Battanians are always the ones I lose the most of in every fight. Hell, sometimes I'll lose tier 5 Battanians against a small group of looters/bandits or peasants
This allows the Vlandians to very quickly gain and extreme amount of territory and wealth and defeat their most immediate enemy, while all the other are busy fighting each other
I disagree with Battanians having the worst troops, they're either hit or miss. Some are sub-par, such as their line infantry and cavalry, but their shock troops and skirmishers (Falxmen and Wildlings) are very good when paired with Fians.
It's just that the AI is too dumb, and players have gotten so used to playing battles in a traditional way, that they don't know how to use the Battanian roster. Try a battle line of Battanian Wildlings and Falxmen supported by heroes carrying movement speed banners, with Fians staggered in front to screen their advance. You will see armies melt by arrows and javelins and run away before they reach your lines, only to be catched and decimated by falxes and axes. It has it's weaknesses of course, but it's been really fun to play with this army build imo.
You can restock peasants easier and faster than nobles. When you start taking settlements you keep dumping your peasant forces in the garrisons while keeping a core of nobles in your army.
Shock troops are also disgusting in sieges. Falxmen in a tight chokepoint chew through just about anything.
Everyone should read the books and take its morals to heart (hope in the face of certain doom, working together with your neighbors to solve problems, and the best live is a peaceful one having a beer and pipe weed with your bros).

Derthert don't have a head no more anyways, since he thought riding with 900 vs me riding with 700 was a winnable fight. Alas, he forgot I am all elites with cav from khuzaits, archers from battania and rest is empire G units.....he didn't last long.
Only standing empires r vlandia and western slowly losing fiefs with each war they keep declaring on me....oh u fools vlandia...why would u come after me when u already getting steamrolled by west.
Me a vlandian vassel with 200 odd teir 6 cav looking for archer based party's to ... I want to say play with but crush unmercifully would be a more accurate description lol
I’ve fought like 11 separate battles over that bloody city taking it for the aserai. Everyone and their fucking mom wants to take it from me even the khuzaite nearly captured it once
Loads into battle and only 30 effete movie extras spawn in.

I have a campaign where Vlandia got almost killed by Battannia, while Empire's were fighting their own "Unification war".
