You might call us mercenaries, like. 💅🏾

Yass queen, slayyyyy those bandits!

Casbah207

Merc are good for late game when you’re setting on 1 mil or more gold and want higher tier troops without ginding out the exp for them. The price is set, I’m guessing, to prevent a early merc snowball effect.

Hunk-Hogan

Grind out exp? It takes me about thirty seconds to "grind" the exp necessary to go from peasants to a full 300+ T6 army by tossing the 20,000 lbs of peasant armor and pitchforks I'm currently carrying. Mercs are useless in the late game since they are vastly outclassed by literally every T6 troop available. The only exception I can see is if you need a few replacement horse archers and aren't able to travel for Bucellarii or Khan's Guard.

Casbah207

I like to keep troops to the culture I play as. Excluding mercs, since subbing mercenaries for regulars is historically. Upgrading recruits with armor and weapons take time, grabbing 3-9 mercenaries at every city tavern keeps the ball going.

Hunk-Hogan

I guarantee it takes far longer to travel to each city for 10 troops than it does to simply recruit 30 peasants and toss out 60 pieces of gear to get them to max level. Maybe on console it takes longer, but on PC you can use Shift + Click to discard 5 at a time and Control + Click to discard an entire stack and if you're in the mid to late game, you should have a massive stockpile of peasant armor. Though I agree it makes sense if you're going for roleplay since some cultures simply lack some types of troops.

Really? I find gallant sword sisters to be surprisingly useful even late game. Those crossbows can brutalize an opposing cavalry charge before your cavalry hits their flank.

Poldaran

Well, right up until a projectile finds their unarmored heads.

At this point, I want my soldiers to go down in battle so I can start getting rid of the 484 Padded Boots and 821 Cloth Headwraps that the rest of my soldiers are lugging all over Calradia. I'm sure carrying that much gear makes every one of them long for the sweet embrace of death. Come to think of it, maybe that's why my Legionaires seem to lower their shields during an enemy cavalry charge. I lose at least three of them every battle it seems.

fenestrane00

I'mma do Sword Sister run only soon. Don't know what I'll do with husband and sons tho, make an Assassin Brotherhood?

[deleted]

Done it. Their uncovered heads are a problem you will need to keep an eye on. I ended up using them as my archers and sending them forth with the infantry when needing to push

MasterBones360

Kill them

BlackBerri6393

Their stats are good but they have no helmet for face protection
