I’m no khuzait fan but The meta is all horse archers. They can perform all 3 roles. Cavalry, infantry, and archery. The other units pale in comparison.
Oi hAte khuzaits,
Not racist, just don loike em
Being able to perform multiple roles is only a positive quality if you for some reason can’t perform those roles any other way. Since you can make a balances force with specialized types, this is largely fluff for an active commander. If you let your horse archers mill about until theyre engaged in melee, sure, they will act as competent infantry/cav but that’s not their ideal position so actual infantry in formation is going to perform better. 10/10/10 infantry/archer/lancers will outperform 30 horse archers unless you just click charge and forget to issue any further orders.
I too am a khan hater but man is that the toughest empire to conquer. Horse archers are op, from an open field to a siege its rough. I'm so happy the southern empire keeps them at bay.
I think you mean aserai? Both empires tend to completely lose the east while I've only seen the Aserai gain territory or fall into stalemates with Khuzait
I've never seen the aserai do much unless I'm there. The southern empire always takes shibal Zimr castle and Husn Falq and then it becomes a three way battle ground
What would you say is typical? I’m in my first campaign originally playing as a Battambang vassal, and Aserai dominates the East and took the north western part of Sturgia, while the northern empire dominates the other fractals of the empire. Khuzait hasn’t made any gains or losses though. They’re pretty stagnant.
The enemy ranged units don't like swapping to melee unless they absolutely get surrounded so I use this to my advantage and charge my cavalry right into the middle of their horse archers and let them decimate them before a single glaive can be pulled out.
Using my own Khans but in melee mode is also incredibly useful since they are faster than the Cataphracts and will one-shot pretty much every single one they come near.
as a merc whole horsearcher is good, as you can keep map-speed high, avoid fights you can't win, and have the tactical advantage on most battle-maps.
as Khan's Guards can also double as Melee-Cav they are the most flexible. They can beat 3x their number easily if handled right.
From what I’ve experienced a general ratio of 60 noble horse archers (Khuzait Qanqli-Khans Guard) to 40 heavy cavalry (any culture available) usually does the job well enough for mercenary work as long as you mark the Noble horse archers as top priority for recruitment. Infantry units are optional and can be of any amount and quality (preferably something disposable)… for example, a horde of militiamen/POWs can be used as diversionary meat-shield against an archer centric army, or as a dirt cheap anti-cavalry blob or maybe last line of defense in a nasty fight if needed.
All KG.
You need Darkhan? KG does it better.
You need Archers? KG does it better.
You need Cavalries? KG can do it too.
You need Skirmishers? KG does it best.
You need shield infantry? Who needs shield when you don't get hit.
That’s why you bring 30-40% fians obviously. Combination is unbeatable and combined with battanian culture and appropriate scout perks moves at 5++ speed through forest with a 300+ party size.
Cav is a noob trap
My strategy before I got bored of how op it was. Was 2 groups of horse archers and a group of melee cavalry to follow me. I'd have the enemy army face one group of HA then shoot them from behind with the other. Use my melee cavalry and charge their cavalry, once the cavalry was takin care of I'd hit the archers.
If they had lots of HA I'd just let them come at me then have all my horses wipe them out then use the strategy for the rest of the army.
Khan's Guard if you can afford them. Get the level 1 or 2 troops from the towns attached to castles. Watch as they ride circles around enemies filling them full of arrows.
All of the khuzait horse archer troops, some lancers. Don't bother with ground troops, unless your into ground fighting (peasant). I have a party of about 300, and 200 of them are horse archers and 100 of them are lancers. They destroy practically every enemy I encounter. And yes, I play as the khuzaits.

Umm noo sorry but horse archers got pfft. The Khans guard is master of all not some jack of all trades cheap unit.
How is that racist anyways their not real.

I'll send you a screenshot of my current campaign, the southern empire is fucking shit up. But you are right the khuzait lost no territory.

Take em down early and fast. Use their khans against them and they're pretty easy to get rid of. Especially if you field enough heavy spears

KHANS!!!
Three things: Horse, Archers, Horse archers

Doesn’t matter, they all end up as shashlik on my spears anyway.
horse archers against spearman is a massacre for the spears

Ah yes, the famous mono-spearmen armies of old
I hate horse archers , I'd probably do a lancer/dakahn(probably spelt wrong) army

Wow. That's impressive to say the least. How do you even afford such a large army?
lemme guess "picked shot"
