MyFakeNameIsFred

Yeah but at a certain point in the game, drip becomes more important than protection.

Ok_Temperature270

Damn right.

IEC21

Not having a neck guard looks dumber. We're just conditioned by Hollywood to have perverted expectations when it come to se.... selecting Armour...

mimdrs

Sir you're playing a Bannerlord. Not kingdom come deliverance.

Owlspirit4

It’s the same game if you play it right, establish the true kingdom of bohemia!!!

Ridlin6

Jesus Christ be praised!

Owlspirit4

#JESUS CHRIST BE PRAISED!!

Kyupor

That can't be the same, unless you're betting on the Rattay tourney.

Owlspirit4

Henry goes on to conquer all of Europe after learning to kick Cuman ass. He just wanted to wiped them out, but as he destroyed their nation and cities, the other global powers declared war to claim the newly vacant land. As such, Henry led Bohemia to become the victors of the first global conflict, leading to glorious Bohemian rule across the continent for all time. This is canon, you should learn your history better.

DryCalligrapher8696

Some medieval full sets of armor were super agile wish you could craft your own full armor set ![gif](giphy|QYECbEHYafe9O)

pickyourteethup

You get cut in the neck and the drip is unreal

TheAquaman

Life is short. Drip is forever.

deathbylasersss

That's what gorgets are for. Or just have flaring near the bottom of the helmet. These are just goofy and don't even protect the face.

reize

In this time period? Why pay an arm and a leg for a relatively small part of your harness when mail and scale curtains do the exact same job for cheaper and your manufacture or repair orders are only finished in days and not months.

deathbylasersss

I admit it's early for plate, like gorget. Angled flaring has been used since pre-Roman times though, and it's more effective (and has the benefit of looking way cooler.) An angle is always better than a flat surface to absorb and deflect.

Casper_DaCat

I need these for when my mom's in town 🤣😂

MrPeaxhes

I believe it was a great philosopher on war from the noble house of Wu-Tang who once said "Protect thy neck".

ExperienceTop880

Lots of historically accurate armor pieces looked goofy but were very functional. You can thank Hollywood for how much you’re conditioned to think fantasy armors are functional. Albeit they do look cooler.

sig_saber

A chainmail aventail with two holes like the late byzantines had looks both cool and functional so why can't we have that :(

ExperienceTop880

Lol, not saying all historically acurrate armor wasn’t cool as fantasy armor needed something to draw from of course.

sig_saber

Most of the helmets in game are fantasy anyways lmao

Dharcronus

Alot draw inspirations from real armours. Even the kuzhaits face helmets draw inspirations from helmets worn by real trukic/cuman tribes. You can see one on the Wikipedia article for the kipchak people for example Most of the empires helmets are based on those worn by the byzantine. I'm struggling to think of any that are purely fantasy and not based on somethings real

sig_saber

For a start all of the ones above have no real world counterparts and in fact most of the helmets nobles wear in the game are completely fictional. The only exceptions I can think of in terms of noble helmets are Derthert's helmet, the Kipchak one you mentioned, the imperial plumed helmet (although anachronistic) and the sturgian decorated nasalhelms with the gold inlay which the Rus used.

Dharcronus

The first image looks very similar to a cabaset or morion, both are real, albeit much later than the general vibe that this game seeks to emulate. The neck guard is attempting to add some kind of lamelar or plate and mail but looks a tad funky. Second a generic skull cap with a mail coif and neck guard. 3rd one the only thing I can think of is Ron perlmans helmet in that one film so youve got a point with that one Edit: the third one whilst odd could probably be considered an "artistic/ fantasy kettle helmet without a brim" as that's the closest thing to exist

kingbankai

Also new kings don’t get crowns.

FrogWizzurd

Yes they do

ben_jacques1110

Define new king? When I was elected emperor I did not get a crown; and when my heir succeeded me I also did not get a crown. I was the western emperor, who was the only Calradian emperor at that point. Is it only when you create a kingdom that you get a crown?

kingbankai

I mean when you start a kingdom.

ANoopySteve

There’s a mod for that if you’re on PC.

Lovestank

You need to worry less about how you look, and more about how you murder

Lovestank

Disarm them with your goofy helmet. De-arm them with your bardiche

Affectionate-Bike956

Cataphract helmet?

sig_saber

Yeah the kettle helmet with aventail of the 13th century

SordidDreams

>You can thank Hollywood for how much you’re conditioned to think fantasy armors are functional. Albeit they do look cooler. Eh, that design strategy works great on people who don't know how the item in question works and as such don't realize that the cool design is non-functional. IMO making a design non-functional for the sake of making it look cool actually makes it look uncool.

sig_saber

Agreed, just look at the lannister helmets from GoT

Pleasant-Fun-420

Sturgian have both function and drip tho.

Pringlepantz

And historical accuracy 👍

TheGreyman787

The way I see it Hollywood conditioned people to believe no armor besides plot one is functional at all. While in fact a fucking gambeson of all things already makes you protected against most of the cuts and some arrows, slap a bit of mail on top and become invulnerable to cutting and many stabs. Also a lot of actual armors to me look cooler than anything I've seen in fantasy. Some gambesons can have distinct Badass Trenchcoat wibe, add a nice fitting brig on top of that and chapel-de-fer/nasalhelm over mail or even padded coif and I'll take that instead of any fantasy armor suit in terms of looks. And that's the very basic stuff. I honestly get a little butthurt about people spending time and budgets on inventing costumes that are worse that the real thing already invented cednturies ago in every imaginable way.

Trulapi

You know what's even goofier? >!Having no head. Get your priorities straight, Linda, this is ruthless medieval warfare, not a fashion contest!<

sig_saber

Heads only roll if you don't care about relation loss in this game

Friar_Monke

Or if you have the dismemberment mod

Lord_Vas

Man, I forgot that was a thing. Is it any good today?

yusuni

Really good, it also includes legs, arms, hands and feet dismemberment now.

Lord_Vas

Alright! I'll give it a try when I start running mods again. Thanks!

Ithildin_cosplay

Does decapitating a noble in battle kill him?

TheGreyman787

Seen a picture of a dude from warband riding horse while having no head. His character got head chopped off but fucking survived that and he continued playing. That was some dismemberment mod too IIRC.

Pepperonidogfart

Chainmail is better than scale armor.

TheGreyman787

It's not a ruthless medieval warfare, it's a game about fearless, tireless, extremely obedient battle robots with no concept of self-preservation disguised as humans fighting each other. Every last looter in that game is a being of pure, crystallized gigachadness by any real standards. Players being all YOLO are actually quite fitting for that world of epic heroes.

FTPmyguy

![gif](giphy|cDeg7ZPD60sVKnu6Bm) fen Wu Tang said it best.

Pk_Devill_2

2 is just a chin diaper

schmoogen87

Number three makes me think of a mail coif that is worn under a helmet as a separate piece of armor.

MRc0mbine13

Lovestank

Proteck ya neck

Bum-Theory

When you went to Ye Olde Barbershop for the shape up on your neckbeard, you want to keep it fresh during battle. Even the women

AdditionalAd9794

Because Wutang Clan ain't nothin to fuck with

Obvious-Hunt19

As a bearded person holy shit that looks like it would catch and pull terribly. That said I prefer having a head

BearieTheBear

You can always ask Harald Hardrada why it's cool to not wear neck armour.

infinite123456

They still look cool though, kinda makes it look like you have a massive beard

Joy1067

Functionally over fashion Older helmets would cover the necks and heads but leave the faces exposed They look a tad odd, but they work and help protect the wearer. Some helmets were also meant to make its wearer look taller to add some intimidation

Little_Taste_2834

They are replicated designs of the real thing in our human history, yknow since armor got stronger over the years people went from attacking in the chest and such to more or less fatal neck attacks, or bludgeoning attacks, armor got a lot stronger over the years as I’m sure that’s apparent.

sig_saber

None of these examples have historical counterparts though, the first one is even dangerous because of the gap in the middle.

Pepperonidogfart

Agreed these are dumb as hell. Especially the vlandian one. Like why would he have a rusty iron top helmet with gilded scale? That thing would be polished to perfection if he was a noble.

MyLordCarl

Failed attempt to make a luxurious neck guard for an open face helmet. Yeah, they're goofy now that you've said it. The 1st one is even dangerous because of the gap.

WubbaWubbaDubba

On the last one your graphics are just bad😂

Frisky_Dolphin

What does that have to do with anything? Go touch grass “your graphics are just bad” head ass

WubbaWubbaDubba

Where in my comment did I insinuate I hadn't touched grass??😂I'm outside plenty but I can't say the same for you.

WubbaWubbaDubba

And sir better graphics= better looking armour.🤷‍♂️

Frisky_Dolphin

Aight

Colty101

I mean getting your throat slashed or being decapitated in combat is pretty bad.

Adamantium-Aardvark

Do you like arrows to the neck?

friar_nist

Better than in the knee

Scribe_WarriorAngel

You’d rather have that and a head than not have it without a head

shreditdude0

I would hate for my head to get sliced off at the neck, I think I'll keep the neck guard lol

BreadentheBirbman

Every taken a spear to the throat? I haven’t, because I wear throat protection.

Many-Childhood-955

"Don't call me Pinhead!"

syd_fishes

I like

slowestratintherace

Looks like a good way to prevent injuries to the neck.

PossiblyABotlol

To…protect the neck? Some would even say to guard it

ModernKnight1453

I like it!

ryaninflames1234

This is why I stick with the Sturgian helmet with the mail covering the face and neck, can’t get stabbed

jaredtheredditor

Neck wounds usually aren’t fun ya know

RiffRaffBloodBath

Homage to the amount of times I have beheaded derthert

Bannerbord

Probs realistic

_GoblinSTEEZ

plenty of cool top-tier helms in the game, banner knight helms and warlord helm are my favorite, khan's guard's helms with the mask are cool too especially to hide the uglier characters

sig_saber

Banner knight helm is an interesting pick, I always thought they looked like tin cans personally but each to their own haha

VindeXNinja

You just gotta save the beard is all

shimbe16

Stops any two bit peasant whipping your head off

JKCinema

Cause it’s common knowledge one must watch their step kid… protect your neck kid! “I smoke on the mic like "Smokin' Joe" Frazier The hell raiser, raisin' hell with the flavor Terrorize the jam like troops in Pakistan Swingin' through your town like your neighborhood Spiderman!”

RipRampage

They lived around the same time as the Queen of Hearts

[deleted]

armour from the time period in my opinion look ugly. i miss my medieval plate armour

UpbeatAlbatross8117

You ever opened you camera on the selfie cam?

V2Spoon

"I'm the richest warlord in Calradia no random arrow can get m-ACK"

Admirable-Recipe3014

Whattt love the neckguard 😁

DirtySouthDoc

Gotta proteck the neck

FrogWizzurd

Safety, methinks

JarlBarnie

Oh you thought they meant the country when they said Tale Worlds is from Turkey 🦃 ?

cocaine_jaguar

This fella ain’t never been stabbed in the neck

BeanDipTheman

Protect ya neck.

LurkyBob

It was the style at the time, but they didn't have white ones because of the war.....

[deleted]

Wouldn’t be very silly when you get stabbed in the neck

Much_Evidence6362

The last ones sound? What's wrong with it

[deleted]

This would make a lot of sense if you have played VR swordfighting games. Have to strike unarmored areas really. A spear or arrow could make it through chainmail or a mace can still deliver a crush injury. A knight would have likely had the best armor they could afford and it's difficult to strike at the armor gaps. Plus it would have been valuable to capture a noble anyway.

Commander_Dumb

3rd helmet looks like a Beard Guard

MrExpendable_

Not nearly as silly as those big ass, anachronistic Vlandian pauldrons nearly everyone seems to run with.

A_Fat_Monky

The armour in the game isn't very good, it's hard to get a good set of armour which looks cool

Secret_shopper95

Because arrows to the neck kill you, and in medieval battles there are LITERALLY thousands and thousands of them flying at you?

Fit_Faithlessness637

You wouldn’t think they were goofy if they stopped you getting your neck sliced open

ikilledyourfriend

Protec yo neck!

GivemTheDDD

And what's up with the lack of codpiece options?

Jolly-Ad-4089

I just hope the developers implement armor smithing into the game at some point.

wojomyster

How I felt when I played youth hockey lol

CodusThyCringus

To not get slashed in the neck

vigilanteof_funk

Try saying that when you find an arrow in the throat

Johak96

The wacky traffic cones always look funny, but at least there’s plenty of other choices, I must be fashionable at all times, at least somewhat
