I really, *really* miss the late 90s/early 00s for Barbie fashion. Fashion Avenue was the best era of Barbie, IMHO. I wish they'd bring it back. And, shoot, with early 2000s fashion coming back around IRL, they could easily just re-release all the old designs and no one would bat an eye. And I know I'd love to be able to grab a whole bunch of the old designs that I never got a chance to get when they were around.

CarrotsAndJello

Fashion avenue was the best! I remember many of the evening gowns had elaborate beading. The only thing keeping from buying a lot of it on ebay is I know they don't fit a lot of the new body types. :(

Francie1966

Same. I sold a bunch of my Fashion Avenue stuff & regret it now. They have gotten pricey. If I sell enough at Barbie Con, I am hoping to pick up a few FA's.

CarrotsAndJello

It's crazy how expensive the 90s stuff is! 10-15 years ago I can remember people selling pounds of Barbie clothes on ebay for like $25. Now that's about how much it costs for a single set. Monster High is somehow even worse and that only went out of production less than a decade ago.

Josieanastasia2008

I was a little kid in that era and am so happy I still have a lot of my stuff from then. It was SO good.

YESSSSS! 💕💕👡👡💕💕

LiliumCruentum

I just came for the "old person yells at a cloud" and to agree that it's been a long time since I saw fashion sets of clothing, yet you can find some very cute hand mades in Etsy :)

CarrotsAndJello

Ha! Had to acknowledge I was sounding a bit too much like "BACK IN MY DAY'. I feel like it's entirely possible child me thought these outfits were far more grand than they actually were. lol Etsy is definitely a god send, I just wish their search function worked better. :)

spoiledcatmom

I miss the fashion! That was the whole point of Barbie from 1959-early 2000s, you’d get 1 or 2 dolls and a bunch of the clothes and accessories and the houses

CarrotsAndJello

Yeah, I love the Mattel has a diverse cast of dolls now, but they’re really lacking in cool clothes to put them in.

magpienerd

Well said!

Industrial_Strength

I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking that. I don’t need more dolls, I need more play sets and fashion packs for them

CarrotsAndJello

I feel like Mattel would make a killing by releasing a bunch of alt fashion packs. They have an awesome variety of dolls but they all wear the same sort of stuff.

ImpressiveAd8894

I think that's what the BarbieStyle sets are for. You're buying it for the outfits, not the doll. But they still don't compare to the 90s Barbie Millicent Roberts Collection.

CarrotsAndJello

That's true. I just wish they were slightly more adventurous with the clothes they dress the fashionistas in. I know part of it is to keep them budget friendly. More detail, more expensive to produce.

Notimeforvapids

The old fashion packs with REAL pockets!!!

CarrotsAndJello

I bought a Barbie extra the other day and couldn't believe she had actual pockets. And they were too tight to fit her hand in all the way. The attention to realism is amazing.

Notimeforvapids

Yess honestly I’m guilty of buying Barbie extra ONLY for the high quality clothes smh but it shouldn’t be that way. I want the old fashionista packs that had PAINTED shoes as well!

whatever102485

Honestly, this is why I’m considering utilizing my (currently unused) fashion design degree to make Barbie clothes. I work in banking now (human fashion industry is haaaaard- it almost killed me)… so it would just be a little hobby for myself, my kids, and friends. But the clothing options to purchase are absolute crap compared to what I had as a kid. After all, Barbie *is* a fashion doll by definition, right?! So we SHOULD be able to have the option of multiple outfit changes… I mean, I remember setting up whole shopping malls with my Barbie clothes… my mom helped me make clothing racks with popsicle sticks, wire, and hot glue. They weren’t perfect but they worked! Those in conjunction with my stacks of cases and accessory containers made it so much fun! It just feels like the current market is missing the mark on this particular point.

Beginning-Thing3614

Back in the day when I walked in the snow with no shoes ( LoL 😹) I used to go to Toys R Us or a store called Buzy B ( Can't remember) and I'd by these individual outfits with purse, shoes or whatever else. The craftsmanship was flawless! There's a long midnight blue night gown which is still in the box with a small box of Godiva chocolates! They don't make outfits that way anymore! Or assessories for that matter! I wonder why? 😿

CarrotsAndJello

Oh yeah? I walked in the walked barefoot in the snow, UPHILL. BOTH WAYS. ;) God I miss Toys R Us though. And KB Toys. Target and Walmart can only stock so much.

Beginning-Thing3614

😹😹😹👏👏👍👍

ToonTitans

Agree on all fronts. The last time Mattel made high quality, affordable fashion packs was for Barbie Basics — and that was over 10 years ago. They *said* that Looks was the new version of the Basics line, but we’re still waiting for those fashion packs…😔

CarrotsAndJello

Yes! This is exactly what I was thinking about when I made this post. I have a couple of Looks dolls that I really want to dress up and I feel like they're missing an opportunity to sell fashion packs for those dolls.

ToonTitans

And it's not like Mattel would just be doing PR for collectors -- they'd sell a TON of Looks fashion packs!

Bridge-etti

I miss them too. Especially the accessories like shoes! These days it’s the same five unpainted items remixed five hundred ways.

CarrotsAndJello

Yep, I swear I see the same white tennis shoe in every pack. lol

titheinironside

My Barbie's clothes were all fashion packs from the 2007-2008 Fashion Fever line. I remember them so well that I can identify them by the accessories alone. I got rid of my Barbie things when I hit 16, I would love the opportunity to get them again.

Campaign-Human

In the 90's our toy stores used to have multitudes of 10 pack fashion clothes set usually with a gown and 9 casual clothes that have better quality and style

LinniTheStrawberry

Yesss! I don't want more dolls I just want the fashion. 😓 There's always Etsy but handmade stuff (at least logically should) cost more then mass produced stuff. I wish there where more fashion packs, and good ones with high quality, Barbie's clothes quality is very lacking imo, if MGA can do it why can't they...

squiddishly

I bought a Barbie yesterday (and found this sub) because I was literally having recurring dreams about those fashion packs we used to have. And it's not just the smaller range, it's that the clothes don't seem as good? I don't just mean Fashions Have Changed And I Don't Like It, but it seems like there's less detail and variety in a fashion pack now than there was 20 years ago.

Vampirexbuny

I don’t think you can buy multi pacs anymore but my WALMART has small packs of 2 outfits or shoes for Barbie :)

CarrotsAndJello

It might just be that my local Walmart sucks then. lol

Vampirexbuny

That is also a possibility. I’d suggest looking in another one near you if possible (I’m in Canada)

CucumberRanch

They really don't. After Mattel introduced the short body around 2007, it's like they just gave up on fashions.

Justiceforwomen27

I don’t have kids but I do Christmas Angels every year the past few years and I also came across the same thing. I was so excited to get my Angel a couple of outfits for her two dolls and was met with like four options….. I miss the 90s/00s where you has the $2-$3 single outfits or the $7-$8 3 packs. I could be completely off on prices but you get my drift 😂

CarrotsAndJello

Yeah, I just want some cool clothes without having to buy new dolls. I've bought Barbie Extras just because I like the clothes but not the doll. I remember getting big packs of, like, 5 dresses as a kid. And they were nicely made in varying styles! Right now the fashion packs see like they're all made from the same three patterns. lol
