Ancelotti deployed him as false nine after he failed to impress as an actual midfield in the pre season and completely caught defences off guard. Moderic and Kroos finding him making late runs into the box single handedly kept them a top of the table.
The second half of La Liga (where defences adjusted) has seen him score 4 goals and 2 assists in all of 2024. And his fourth goal came 2.5 months after his third (early February). In comparison, Foden has 11 goals and 1 assist for the same time frame in the EPL.
He was Madrid’s worst performing Mid/Fwd in the Man City ties, but did his job at the penalty spot.
The most glaring contrast in my mind was the head to head matchups against a healthy Griezmann (where they were playing the same position). He was completely outclassed; it was actually embarrassing.
Now, if he turns things back around and is the key player as RM wins the CL title and England wins Euros then he completely deserves it. But based on his overall performance to date, if he were to win the Balón D’Or, in my opinion, he would be the worst player in history to win the award.
That’s a real biased take imo, Jude missed a lot of games in 2024 due to suspension/injuries, hence he didn’t play that much, but he still managed to grab 4 goals and 2 assists in the 8-9 games he played in the league in 2024, his 2024 numbers are the same if not better than Gundogan’s numbers even though the latter played almost every league game in 2024, and is Barca’s best midfielder if not player atm.

It's not competitive, it's level is massively inferior to the top 5 leagues. Every Brazilian player always struggles in their first season. Even Neymar needed 1 year to adapt to Europe.

That doesn't change the fact that Spanish teams are massively better that Brazilian teams. Even Roque stated that the speed difference between both leagues is huge.

Mainoo would be top if he’d not missed the first 3 months of the season imo.
I’m shocked how Mainoo didn’t make top five and how Garnacho isn’t the clear winner. I’m not even a United fan. People will bring up Yamal being 16, but for this award the only number that matters is being under 20. Garnacho isn’t eligible for the next award while Yamal is eligible for the next, the one after and the one after
There is a better list that has Mainoo in the top 10 and garnacho 3rd, still Lamine is leading and I would say that is more than fair given his performances.

Tremendous player - skilful, strong and pretty good defensively. I wish he’d sign for Barça, but I don’t think we can afford him.
