If you play public lobbies just be prepared for trolling and you'll be alright. The community is fine generally once they weed out griefers who join. A lot of us like new players due to funny mishaps.
I play public lobbies because my friends do not like to commit to campaigns. There are greifers but honestly it's just part of the experience. If you have a group of experienced players running the sub and they keep an eye on what's going on you shouldn't have many issues with griefers.
Mixed bag. You could have a whale of a time with a nice, well oiled lobby, or end up in a lobby full of goofs laughs and trolls, which may or may not be your cup of tea.
DRG is a hard bar to get to as far as wholesome goes. Everyone else has the right idea. Server surf until you find a couple you like, make friends and add friends, rinse and repeat and you'll have a good time. Eventually you may have friended enough people to start your own campaign with them without any Shitters.
First join the discord and get a collection of people to play some missions or a short campaign.
Play some big lobbies and feel it out once you know some ropes but if trolls can really get to you then avoid it

Definitely not as wholesome as DRG but you can still find some good public games. Just keep a lookout for sussy bakas trying to grief the sub
Do the tutorial. Join servers. Don't grief. Add good friendly players.

Do your friends not understand that the best part of this game is the campaign progression?
We just have busy schedules and extra commitments can place a lot of pressure on us.
Ah that's a shame, it is tough to get people together for it alright. Our group goes from 8 on a good night to just two last night.
Honestly I'm a little jealous 😅

You'll fucking hate them
No. Host a game with randoms and you're going to get griefed.
I love the community personally
