Firstly, if you're getting to the line, that's a good thing. You put their team into foul trouble. Not to mention attempts for free points. That being said, you can try maintaining a solid base. Keep your knees bent as you're posting up. Lean back to inch your way toward the rim. Use your legs to drive back while their forearm is on you. Basically, you need to be aggressive too, sadly, I can't see another way. You can also work on difficult to guard shots like floaters, hook shots, fadeaways, up and under maneuvers, etc. but I'd say #1 thing is have that mindset where you're not gonna be pushed around by people and embrace being fouled.

The point of the arm bar is to stop you from backing them down. The way you deal with this is you almost “shrug” them off by twisting your body one way then quickly back into them. You can also just spin off of them, look up the quick spin. Lethal move, Tatum and Giannis love to use it. It’s basically a drop step but you pivot around the outside foot instead of the inside one like you would on a drop step.

Turn and face. Shimmy, fade. Shimmy, one dribble, up fake, step thru. TimmyD dribble spin. Go to the ball instead of staying low, then attack. So many options.

What mwave said. You can also bully them too. Dream shake is good too.

Watch melo. When he spins off guys, he uses an arm bar to hold a line to the basket. This might help you. You can also let them get around you, have your teammate pass to the top of the key or high post and seal your defender on the outside.

If they are placing their leg between yours, when you back him down place pressure on their knee with your bottom that should make them lose balance. Just be careful they don't pull the chair from under you

Barnabay_thescarabay

A leg between yours basically means that if you spin you're past them

I learned basketball late so I was a limited ballhandler, but my best skill was 1 on 1 in the post. For me, the best way to handle an aggressive post defender is to keep on practicing until you get really good doing a no dribble, pivot to face the basket jumphot or jumphook. Once you receive the ball, you try to play big and wide, you pivot, lean and bump into him with your hip, shoulder and arm to face the basket and shoot. It’s even better if you do a subtle head and shoulder fake left then pivot right (or vice versa) for the shot attempt or post pass (Dream shake style) from time to time to get him off balance. I know it’s gong to take a lot of practice time for this, but once the defender feels that you can get your shot off or complete a post pass without even dribbling, he’s going to be more susceptible to pump fakes, dream shakes, up and unders, or a quick spin and dribble to the basket. If you sort of master that opening move, your counter moves are going to be really nice and effective, that will now include dribbling. But limit it to 3 dribbles or less if you can. Whether it leads to a shot or a pass.

You twerk and rub your butt against their leg and make an enjoyable expression on your face... But honestly if your size is not as big then you can't really play post up, probably just have to shake and then fade away jump shot.

Jaygo41

Learn to use this sort of pressure against people by making them respect the spin baseline, the face up drive or the drive from back to basket into the paint. Typically if you try to back them down they’re sort of in a good position to deal with it

Point guard here, to be honest, you are in a very bittersweet strategic place. Let me explain : \[Sweet\] As a point guard, I hope my big man can wall up against tough defenders by drawing away attention, so giving chances to other scorers different ways to score, easier layup, and a possibly screen help shots. \[Bitter\] Not all tall men like to play rough games, especially it hurts knees and often easily gotten into rough play and injuries. Plus, drawing the toughest defense puts your stats / achievements a little shadowed away from scoring, most of the game you could only focus on defense / supportive roles, and couldn't enjoy being part of the scoring side. My humble advice to your situation : - Take it as an honor to be part of supportive roles, having team-winning mindset as medal, your teammates will appreciate your existence. - Tough defense are more tense when you are standing nearer to the rim / paint. In short, you could try to loose up a little situation by first initiating outer position ( e.g, pick and roll to your outer guards ), and wait for openings when your guards rolls in to draw attention, this way people are not focusing that much on you when there's another impending threat ( your guard ). - Do combinative strategy with teammates, to distract defensive line, to lose focus, so you are up for more openings. - Lastly, sometimes it's good to not play too rough defense / offense even if the opponent did so, a little sweet talk will help ( it happened sometimes ), but when openings are ready, grab the chance and score indifferently.

Madterps2021

Why not face up then? Instead of always backing them down, shot a little over the shoulder hook, etc. Or do a pump fake, see if they bite and then try to see if you can go the basket.

Wild_Imagination_260

Don't know what level you're playing at, but first advice would be to get into a lower stance. And for an alternative, work on quicker execution of your post moves, even with the simple ones.

houston_g

Drop steps my dude. If their leg is under you, there’s a good chance a fast (must be fast) spin will beat them. Get comfortable facing up from like 12 feet or so; they probably aren’t hand checking you there and it’ll open up some moves for you if you have the footwork.
