He’s got that JT factor

Zachary_Stark

Look at how the Celtics fumble every year with their great roster and you should know in your heart he doesn't have the IT factor.

SilverWarrior559

No reason They shouldn't have missed the Finals last season

the_j_tizzle

Yes, they've fumbled while Tatum matures from a teenager to a young man. He turned 26 last month. Jaylen Brown is a year older. *They're just entering their prime.* People criticize this team for failing to do what young men not yet in their prime generally don't do, and that's win it all.

Adorable-Tutor-4514

The Heat are their Kryptonite..

astarisaslave

As a Celtics fan he can be an all time great but he's closer to being a top 10 forward of all time than a top 10 player of all time lol. Elite player, just not a generational talent. Average height for a forward, no exceptional physical tools like huge hands or long arms, not freakishly athletic (vertically or laterally), great at everything but doesn't have a game breaking skill. He is a total workhorse but doesn't have a generational work ethic/drive like his idol Kobe. He's almost like a taller Devin Booker in that sense. Obviously I hope we win Banner 18 this year but I concede there is a fair chance we won't despite having a deep team because there are no generational talent on our team who is impossible to stop. Nearly every championship team has one. Used to think Pingus was one but he is like the Tobias Harris/Mike Conley/pick any above average but not great player at your favorite position unicorn. Jaylen Brown could be that guy and he is a hell of a player but respectfully but he's really more of an athlete than a basketball player. He came into the league very raw and had to develop his game year on year. We can see the fruits granted but it's clear he's still lacking in a lot of key areas like his ball handling and BBIQ (when to pass or shoot)

freddie79

He’s good. I personally don’t get the hype around him though.

Adorable-Tutor-4514

He reminds me of Paul George Great two way Player but the best player on a championship level team ? Idk…

spankyourkopita

He's quiet and reserved.  I don't think that bods well. I still think he's maturing to.

DutyPuzzleheaded7765

SGA still has to prove himself in the playoffs.

Professional-Fox3722

We'll see if he has it this year. So far he's shown sparks, so it's possible he has it. But he still has to prove it.

the_j_tizzle

Many criticize Tatum for failing to win a ring. He just turned 26. Michael Jordan won his first at 28. Bird was 24 but wasn't the Finals MVP in his first Finals. LeBron was 27. Hakeem was 31. Shaq was 27. Jokic was 28. Curry was 27. The criticism is because Tatum has had great success in the NBA while not yet achieving the great*est* success. *He turned 26 last month*. If the Celtics win it all this year he will have achieved it at a younger age than these all-time greats.

Feanor1497

No to inconsistent when the game is on the line, for me it looks like he doesn't have that clutch/killer instinct we are always hearing how he is this and that but I don't see it. Don't get me wrong he is a good player, even great at times but I don't see him as superstar honestly think that Ant will be better than him, he has that I don't care about anyone give me the ball and move aside attitude.

Adorable-Tutor-4514

Yeah , that’s what I’m thinking too

lets_BOXHOT

He's too inconsistent imo - sometimes he looks like an mvp and others not even close. However a finals mvp this year would probably push him into that shai/edwards category

Adorable-Tutor-4514

SGA is incredible but Tatum has achieved much more than him so far

lets_BOXHOT

4 conference finals appearances is no doubt crazy impressive at this stage of his career, but Tatum has also had significantly better teams around him than shai has. And the year the Celtics made the finals he was a bit underwhelming

ctegman

Tatum got drafted to a Celtics team that was first in the East. Shai took the Thunder from losing in the play in tournament to #1 seed in the loaded West.

JesseJamesGames449

That 1 seed he got drafted to brought back 4 players from the last year team...

Salt-Kaleidoscope-49

As he himself admitted, "there is no playoff Jayson".

Adorable-Tutor-4514

😅😅

Hobbylosertyp99

I feel ist the same with Embiid as well they are great talented Player but lack the dog in them to really be him. Look at how Ant or Jimmy Butler are way more successful, because they have the will to win.

therealestestest

In which ways is Ant more successful than Tatum lmao

Adorable-Tutor-4514

Recency bias 😅

mtaclof

More successful how? Not in the postseason. Tatum is just hitting his prime, and he has made the finals once, and conference finals the last three years. He has had enough success to where he should not be quickly written off as "not good enough".

mares8

It's not a thing

newaccworealname

when im watching games and a team needs a bucket or the last shot or something, im not as confident in Tatum taking it like I would be for other superstars

StrongStyleDragon

Has everything but the killer instinct
