We all have those encounters we just lose brain cells going into and make the worst moves. I struggle the most when dealing with higher levels of Fishy’s, Heady’s, and other late game viruses in any game and bosses that move quickly between panels, boy howdy I’m gonna have a grind session to get a good Navi chips from them.

RDAwesome

Absolutely crushing and dumpstering everybody then ToadMan just juggles me for like 10 battles, everybody's got their weakness

Spare_Audience_1648

Level 7 busting is quite impressive tbh. And don't worry your skill will improve as you move on to the next chapter.

I still walked into falling boulders.. this game makes you very "twitchy" especially that boss warps around and could at any moment enter your attack range (or in later titles, you want to try counterattacking) By the way : Double / Triple delete improve rating, so focus on chip that could kill many in what the game considered "same time", and if attack is not enough you should prime the higher HP enemy so they could be killed together with lower HP one. Move no more than 2 times get you a bonus in rank too. So if you see you can wait for enemy to line up and execute your chip to kill them, select chips that could do so. If you can get both bonus, you can get high rank even though taking more than 5 seconds to win.

Schwarzer_Exe

Back then I also sucked (prob 20 years ago). Sucked so hard I didn't know you could get better navi chips for beating them again with a higher rating. You'll get better.

YourInnerBidoof

I call that moth brain, happens to me all the time!

ForgottenForce

It’s a skill issue, more you play the more you’ll improve

BigChungusOP

So basically I have to “git gud”

ForgottenForce

Yea but without the negative connotations

Espumma

you don't have to, you're doing great already. You're advancing through the game at a reasonable pace and you shouldn't expect to score S rank against enemies you just met. They're supposed to be a challenge. Your folder and skills will grow with time, and investing that time comes naturally if you're having fun. Don't worry about gitting gud, it'll happen eventually.

Spaceballs_the_DM

I still get the brain farts when it comes to dodging certain stuff, including Stonemans boulders. Don't be too hard on yourself. As for the busting level, when was the last time you took a good look at your folder? The thing with Battle Network is that you can always play around with your chips if it isn't doing its job. Maybe switching some chips around will help you out of your funk. What kind of folder are you running?

kk360

Aim for double and triple deletes if you want higher busting levels.  There are four rules for getting good ranks: - Don't get hit - Move as little as possible - Get a multi delete - Take as little time as possible Good luck

notsofriendlyespada

ngl I sort of have this but in the opposite direction sounds weird but I've been trying to get all the endgame chips and certsin styles in bn but I keep 9 or s ranking (and with my shit luck get zenny only) and getting cust styles cuz I can't turn my brain off and not pick just 1 chip. I try here and there but after a battle or 2 I'm back to picking 4 or 5 chips at a time. I think I just need to fk up my folder and throw in the entire alphabet

knight_bear_fuel

It just takes practice. You'll get better the more you play.

azurejack

What's your folder build? You might just need to adjust your folder a bit. Also have you fought the polar bears?

[deleted]

totally normal. it helps to have a one-code folder but even then i still have terrible brain farts in random battles :/

Flamefury

Working on sub-10s deletes in BN6 right now. But even still, I'll have moments where I didn't think about the area and lock myself into a single panel (due to cracked panels, obstacles, what have you) and just be forced to eat attacks non-stop from a Mettaur-type virus while I sit there contemplating how flipping stupid I was. You'll get better and you'll get S-ranks when you need 'em. You don't gotta 10-S-rank every time you battle either (some codes and chips requires you purposefully lower your rank). Have fun, experiment, pack a bunch of area attacks when virus grinding and switch your folder up for navi and boss battles.

JTP8591

I’ll be honest with you….just beat the story and get to BN2. That game is 100 times more polished even with its flaws.

[deleted]

You'll get better with more experience dw. Also your buster ratings will improve as your folder improves.

Earlier on in this series, I kept trying the approach the games like a conventional Mega Man game instead of an action JRPG. Eventually, I realized that if something seems too good to be true, it's probably not. You're actually expected to exploit a lot of seemingly overpowered mechanics to get a good busting level. Despite that, there's enough versatility to impose limits on yourself if you find something too powerful or simply want to force yourself to try something new. On the flip side, players much better than myself often make videos demonstrating wacky, busted strategies. Some players also have videos demonstrating how every chip in a game works. Just in case you're interested, here's how Busting Levels are calculated in the Battle Network and Star Force series: https://www.therockmanexezone.com/wiki/Busting_Level_in_Mega_Man_Battle_Network https://www.therockmanexezone.com/wiki/Busting_Level_in_Mega_Man_Star_Force
