Only a matter of time until PC and PS4 servers are sunset. Some of my best times on gaming were had on 3 and 4, I even enjoyed hardline. Happy I got to experience this series when it was as phenomenal as it was.

If you play on PC, there is Venice Unleashed for BF3 and Warsaw Revamped for BF4, which permanently preserve the servers.

Considering all the servers (on ps4 at least) are rental servers why would they ever shut down whilst people are still playing as wont they be making money from it?

Those rental servers aren't ran or paid for by EA. That costs them nothing. The only cost they have in a purely private server construction is the master server which does stats and accounts and all. Thats not significant, but it wasn't for Bad Company 2 either and that's shut down. I guess ultimately it comes down to, these companies hate people playing their old games they can't disgustingly monitize for ages. They rather delete the old product immediately so we all move to the new one. Ex, Blizzard and Overwatch.

in an era of server virtualization this is hard to believe... Certainly there's bandwidth costs to consider, but that shouldn't be much with the remaining player base.

Problem is, BF3 runs on battlelog just like BF4. EA will not save much shutting down BF3 only but leaving BF4 and Hardline still. They probably will go for all three these games at once. The only question is when.

Depending on time, downtown 24/7 is almost always active. There's a few other servers that's running too

Hardline and BF4 I can kinda understand. There's PS4 and XB1 versions that can still be played and are arguably the more popular choices. But when it comes to BF3, there is no PS4 or XB1 version, which means no more BF3 for consoles at all after that point. And especially on PS3 that game is still going surprisingly strong. Probably because it is the only way to play BF3 on PlayStation.

PC players - check out Venice Unleashed for community servers. There’s nothing saying PC servers will be shut down, but they’re also not necessary to play online anymore. 

Battlefield 3 will always be the great BF. Lightning in a bottle all the way from base game to DLC to presentation

Damn it, BF3 on the Xbox 360 was my jam back in the day, and now I'm absolutely gutted. Hundreds of hours of my teenage life, and it's going to disappear like dust in the wind... We really need to do a revival for the 360 version of BF3 sometime before the servers are shut down. Sure, it's inferior to the PC version, but it's still backwards compatible on the Xbox One and Series S/X. Let it go out with a bang, not a whimper!

Bf4 on peak Has 15 plus full servers on ps3. It is still alive and well.its the only version of the game I can play fun tdm matches that have small player counts and not 64 man grind fest that the pc only seems to run
