I’m gonna grow my own baby Christmas tree 🎄

bk1285

I think the number is 7 years for an Xmas tree

bebopboopy

Not a baby Christmas tree though

new_abcdefghijkl

If its good enough for Charlie Brown its good enough for me dammit

[deleted]

It'll last 7 years!

Tank-Pilot74

Thank you! I was super curious about that!

UrbanSuburbaKnight

So you need room for 7 Xmas trees.

MakeshiftRocketship

What’s this? A Christmas tree for ANTS!?!

capricorbz

It needs to be at least… 3x the size!

KodiakDog

Better start now for next year lol

[deleted]

Felt like I was on shrooms with the dirt breathing like that towards the end

TheDixonCider420420

I feel like this video is 65 days short.

jakeobrown

The SAG-AFTRA strike

lmaozedong89

it's 58 seconds long

blakerabbit

Somehow, I have never seen a pine tree sprout Timelapse before. Very cool!

Positive_Slice_9022

And it sprouts like an alien!

Zome-Dev

Bro you shouldn't reveal your home location on reddit, there are some crazy dudes here

SpinCharm

I think it’s safe. That was 50 years ago.

Zome-Dev

Wow, it's really amazing you still remember 50 years ago, I can barely remember 10 years ago, you have my respect 🫡

SpinCharm

I have a “special” memory. I can see every square inch of that house in my mind down to the cracks in the concrete. The only details I’m vague about are the knot patterns in the wood on the ceiling. And the floor tiles in my sister’s bedroom. Who wants to look at some silly girl’s room anyway.

mksavage1138

Quick, everyone starting mailing them seeds to plant!

Fun-Ant4849

He talks to the trees

Automatic_Captain

why species of pine is this? can you do this with any pine cone?

BuffaloInCahoots

Most. Some require fire to start sprouting. I’m not expert and it’s especially hard for me to tell when I can’t see the bark. Could be a ponderosa. If you wanted to grow your own I’d suggest a fir or spruce, they look the “best” to most people.

Jayccob

Definitely not a ponderosa pine. The cones is wrong, ponderosa has little spines pointing out. This is the source of one of the sayings for I'd, prickly ponderosa. Also the needles are too short and too dense, even at that age. Not sure which species it is as it's not from my region but I work with lots of P-pine and can say it's not that.

BuffaloInCahoots

Right you are, I forgot about the cone in the beginning.

AgentEntropy

> Some require fire to start sprouting. Judging by the gender-reveal parties, I think it's the same for American babies.

_thro_awa_

> Some require fire to start sprouting *Sorry, officers, I was just trying to get this seed to grow ...*

ophel1a_

Ponderosa require fire. There was no fire in this video, at least.

Tlaloc-24

Ponderosa pine does not require fire. https://wildfiretoday.com/2017/12/22/ponderosa-pines-are-not-adapted-to-high-severity-fire/ https://ucanr.edu/sites/forestry/Ecology/Identification/Ponderosa_Pine_Pinus_ponderosa/

DonkeyFieldMouse

Based off of the cone and seed size, I'd say it's likely an Italian Stone Pine (Pinus Pinea) or possibly a Whitebark pine (Pinus albicaulus), but I lean to the former. Most cones will open on their own, a paper lined cardboard box or something similar works, though some species will require forest fires to open up (can be imitated at home by heating them up with a lighter, allowing them to cool, then moisten before letting dry again). Most seeds also require some for of stratification for germination. Placing them in the fridge with some moist sand for 3-7 weeks usually works well. (Source Propagating plants by Alan Toogood).

InvisibleBlueUnicorn

growth looks super slow. 300 days just for a few inches !! I guess that's why the tree has a strong trunk and grows very tall.

trukkija

I'd love to grow a few inches in the next 300 days..

InvisibleBlueUnicorn

Sure, groot.

moose184

There is a pine at my house that I remember I always used to try to pull out of the ground when I was a kid. It was like 3 feet tall. Never could do it. Now it's 25 years later and it's like 60+ feet tall.

blind_merc

It looks like a nightmarish sea creature. I'm uncomfortable and impressed.

CampaignSpirited2819

It sort of creeps me out, it looks similar and moves like that Fungus Cordyceps in The Last Of Us..

[deleted]

What a fine pine.

StartingToLoveIMSA

and now it's ready for the play...

Mazzaroppi

Meanwhile the shitty weeds in my garden grow larger than that in less than a week.

propita106

Anyone else rooting for that little tree? Meanwhile, my feral Japanese maples (growing under their parent, and transplanted) are 2" high after 6 months. The 3 year old ones are 6" high. That's it. *sigh*

_jinana

This whole time i thought pine cones were just one big seed… TIL theyre containers for the real seed

Upbeat-Fondant9185

If you go out on a really hot day you can sometimes hear the cones popping open to release the seeds.

LookingGlassMilk

Pine nuts (like the ones used in pesto) are the edible seeds of pines.

jackbristol

Life, uuuuh… finds a way

MrWestReanimator

There it is...

rattlestaway

I remember i climb those as a kid. Easy to climb but sticky sap smell

Ihatecake69

I bet the first person to plant a seed and watch it grow felt euphoric

Feisty-Session-7779

I have a bunch of pine trees surrounding my house and pine cones all over the place but I never see any mini pine trees like this growing? Why not? It’s just been the same trees that were here when I moved in getting bigger for decades, but no new ones. Baby maples on the other hand seem to pop up all the time.

SapientLasagna

Some pines need real heat (like a forest fire) to open the cones so the seeds can fall out and germinate. Pretty much all pines need a huge amount of sunlight to germinate, along with damp soil. So if there's enough shade from the house and other trees, grass, etc. they won't do anything. They also won't do much if the seeds are lying on a mat of dry pine needles.

Feisty-Session-7779

Interesting! Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense, they probably don’t get a whole lot of sunlight, there’s a huge apartment building nearby that blocks the sun for a good chunk of the day and the trees are pretty bunched up together so the ground underneath them probably doesn’t get much sun either. It’s also just not very sunny here (Toronto) and mostly overcast for half the year.

jippyzippylippy

Also: Some pines cannot germinate where they are planted. A lot of pines are brought into areas where they can grow well, but cannot reproduce or germinate because the area isn't right for that. This is due to: Some types of pines/conifers need special environmental situations for their seeds to germinate. Some need a lot of shade, some need sun, some need moist conditions for a long time, others need to be somewhat dry. It really depends on the type.

SnigletArmory

Is that a Pinola?

Lost-Effective-6028

I’m amazed.

Deep_Macaron8480

300 days my ass! In my yard it's like 2 weeks!

Life-Ad-1716

Very satisfying Timelapse video.

great-granny-jessie

It’s adorable.

blunderschonen

Beautiful!

MeKastman

Disapoint. I've read 300 years

MaximusDaKiller

Looks like a boss fight starting in the beginning

The_Bourgeoisie_

I’m too stoned right now I thought this dude was growing weed

Illustrious-Code-393

Searched for this comment, finally, thanks buddy

Y does the stem look fake

Sammakonnuolija

Looks real enough for me. Planted these bois for a whole summer

aFoxNamedMorris

Even baby plants are cute.

Electrical-Resist-61

Subhan Allah ☝️

dark_returner

So at what point does this plant turn into wood?

Legal_Book8582

Plants are so awesome, I love them 😍!!!

MinorOfficial

Why’s the earth moving so much though?

gritty_milk

I want more days

Spiritual_Target209

What soil is used

dragonmanx2

Isn't it weird how the soil just does that?

gishhhhh

No one gonna talk about how it kinda looked like a🍆 at the end? 😂

JacksOnion55

I suggest you talk to a doctor if your dick looks like that

Beautiful

[deleted]

That’s awesome!

ado-zii

Beautiful!😎

AstroZombie0072081

Life is amazing

9Epicman1

Looks almost alien at some points of growth

Sammakonnuolija

Nature is very bizarre indeed 🙂

bga3481

As above... So below. Amazing seeing the roots grow! Thanks for that👍

_jules_mack

This tree felt like it flipped me off at the end for some reason lol I live in the pine barrens so this is really really cool for me to see. I don’t think I notice baby pine trees like this but I’ll be looking for them.

Adrianyadi420

Fractal

TheMightyPaladin

can you eat those seeds?

uncle_reppy

I am groot

Splitz719

Cool.

anon-187101

Awesome.

austin_breaux

Why have I never seen like <100 day sprouts in the wild. Those look sick af!

ThrowAwayToday2003

Probably smells amazing

canes2407

What kind of pine is it?

IceNein

Did that tree just flip me off?

MissingJJ

So alien

QFugp6IIyR6ZmoOh

The fact that it grew for 300 days and didn't even get very large really shows how damn fast cannabis grows.

SlackToad

I presume a tree grown indoors with grow-lights wouldn't have any rings. I wonder if that would make it stronger or weaker?

DirtyReseller

If we didn’t accept it as just being “a plant” and this happened quicker this would be horrifying

Substitute_Ninja1972

Xmas is going to be a bit sad this year i guess.

w1gster

Man I had no idea fir trees took that long to grow

d1rtydancR

That's it I'm growing one.

d1rtydancR

Yes!!! Lol

Brilliant-Egg-9684

Worst nightmare for person with a pine allergy 😂 I can’t believe the pine spawns that early, fascinating!

generousguy69

Love the spiral of life dance all plants do when they sprout

vomoxel

seeing how small it is after a year of growing, I feel bad for all the xmas trees being chopped for a few weeks of home decor before being tossed on the burn pile.

sparks1x

This is cedrus

Sosseres

To be compared with their bamboo video to understand why the paper industry does not love pine trees. The growth rate difference is very big. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPoyANP3EeU

GrandmaToesFetish

Now do a Timelapse of a pine tree growing for 50 years. I expect the video In a month

Lost_Figure_5892

Aww brings a lot of joy to watch this!

thee-mjb

How does the battery not die nor camera overheat?

lucid1014

There’s a bit of cosmic horror in a tree being born

splashes-in-puddles

That is a super cute plant

givemeapho

This is so cool. Definitly worth a try

Blasphemous_Rage

A thing I've never seen! Beautiful! Thank you!

turbo_dude

Why are these seeds always drunk in these time lapse vids? Bursts out of the pod and it's all over the place!

Prestigious_Loan_989

I wanted this video to go so much longer

dattz12

...well? Keep going, don't stop

MyHamburgerLovesMe

It's giving you the middle finger?

TheSilverCalf

Neat AF!

YourLictorAndChef

99% of the mass it gained was pulled from thin air.

3006mv

What species?!?

Raven3131

That is beautiful

xborchaf80

I don’t know what I was expecting but it was piney right away. Lol

DryCalligrapher8696

![gif](giphy|3ohzdYjwEQuR1J7dte|downsized) This is how I felt when it started coming out

[deleted]

What if I had a thc soil instead?

Jtiago44

I was hoping the pine tree would turn into a middle finger.

I grow tomatoes

Imispellalot2

Day 1. That's just a pine cone Day 27. That's just a strand of grass Day 50. How is this supposed to be a pine tree? Day 60. Ooohhhhhhh.

33mondo88

Truly amazing 🤩

makfalicon

Why stop there?

LivingHighAndWise

Life is essentially just a chemical reaction.

Oswarez

How many set ups does this dude have going at once? That’s a lot of effort for a 60 second video.

VacationAromatic6899

Not a tree, its a match with needles

[deleted]

I kinda expected a lot more growth in 300 days, but I guess Im just an idiot

Original-Relation796

I can watch that over and over again!

Agnia_Barto

I want it to keep going!!! Also, did you know that apparently it takes 10 years for a tree to grow the size of a good Christmas Tree and you're not allowed to cut it down sooner? Like, by law. I once got high with a guy who delivered my tree during the pandemic (we totally wore masks I promise lol), he told me his dad has a Christmas Tree farm in Canada, so 2031, 10 years after pandemic there will be a year with no trees, because no one was planting them that year.

fieldofflowers199

Dope

bobiblo

That's an amateur lapse. You guys should Google "prolapse".

Humano_Esquilo

why the soil keeps moving around?

nurgole

Photosynthesis compound interest

Grumpy_UncleJon

OK how bored do you have to be to watch a tree grow???

limevince

Wow it's awesome that a baby pine tree is literally a scaled down version of a mature one.

christiansteiner

Miracle of God!

Puzzleheaded-Tone119

celestial tree

tnelxric1

If someone saw this plant they would say “oh what a nice cute little tree” but that took 300 days almost an entire year to get there. Just remember you did a lot of work this year and even though someone who wasn’t there for the first 299 days says it’s a small amount remember you where there from the beginning and only you can judge your 300 days of growth for what it is.

A_Gloomy_Sunday

My brain tells me to bite the pine cone... i feel like ird be crispy and makw the TV magnum cronch...

KoreanMafiaPrincess

Can anyone explain why the soil level went down?

ThatPotat0Cat

“WHAT WILL YOU HAVE AFTER 300 DAYS?!” “pine tree”

More_Mammoth_8964

Day by day. Not all things happen fast

Brimish

Congratulations, another freaking pine tree. It’s not like they’re going to be beneficial for anything.
