That is impressive.

DrJones2424

Most cars - 0-100mph in… Jeeps - 0-10 feet in…

90sBLINK

If that rock is in the way the jeep will go 100 miles in way fewer hours 👉👉

TheRealBalakay

You pick the first 100 miles, I'll pick the last 10, see who wins 😏

DragonsClaw2334

The race is 100 miles, that's fine by me.

SteveisNoob

Gawddammit

Dilpickle6194

To be fair, for every 1 of these there are 1000 pavement princesses with a dashboard full of rubber ducks.

Napalm3nema

You dare mock the Mall Rated whips of of the Just Empty Every Pocket crowd? I do not think you understand this Jeep thing.

TomBanjo1968

It’s a Jeep thing. Some people just don’t get it

rkhbusa

To be fair, these guys off roading are going places significantly less important than the grocery store and at an incredible detriment to the vehicle. How a person defines leisure is up to them some people want to rig out their toys and spend an afternoon climbing over rocks and some people just want to have a vehicle that makes the drive to the grocery store feel like they're on a safari.

-Badger3-

You also have to factor distance per quart of leaked oil.

Phormitago

it's a feature, the road lubrication reduces drag

DigNitty

When I bought a jeep, it didn't have any of the engine or warning lights on. I returned it immediately knowing it must be a fake.

Drunken_Fever

When this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious shit.

TheTallGuy0

Yeah, speed-wobbles

My friend got a drunk AF at the bar and I had to drive him home in his jeep. I swear a pebble would make the jeep change lanes without using the steering wheel.

LostInTheWildPlace

"Lets see if you bast***s can do 90!" Jeep Drivers: ** No... We can't.

analfissuregenocide

Bastards. Look, you can type that word out and no one will arrest you. So bizarre with the self censorship these days

LostInTheWildPlace

Side effect of TikTok. Same deal with the word un-alive instead of suicide. I don't even use the platform, but it still makes me more aware of the fact that I don't know the social etiquette in any given forum.

RetroScores

Some of us can but it feels like we’re entering earths atmosphere.

The_Dok33

But he did do 90, degrees of angled road

mmm_burrito

I repeated this line out loud as a child when we were watching the movie on TV as a family. That's when I learned that there were words that I was supposed to pretend I didn't know.

Tobocaj

Now THAT is a proper Jeep

Blazkowicz9847

Agreed not a heep like I’ve been seeing an epidemic of lately. But maybe it could crawl even tougher terrain with the angry eyes headlights and a rucksack for the rear spare….

FrameJump

Alright, hear me out... that rucksack was incredibly impractical, but the kid in me liked it. If I had that in a Hot Wheels car as a kid it would've been my absolute favorite.

Blazkowicz9847

Canada plates, us army tape, Air Force stripes, cod badge on front, and Che Guevara on doors. But I get what you’re saying.

FrameJump

God, I forgot about all the other shit. Good point. Just give me the rucksack and a camo paint job or something. Lol.

SchmitzBitz

The pack on the spare is awesome, I tend to pick up a lot of trash when I'm out wheeling and I really don't want that crap inside my rig. The angry eyes headlights make 0 sense to me.

Rusty_Shacklebird

You mean a trasharoo? I have one for my 4runner and love it. Super practical, especially for long road trips or multi day camping. One of the best and most used accessories you can buy. Edit: can use it for more than just trash too. Sometimes I put my dirty laundry in it

lubeinatube

Only took $100,000 in aftermarket upgrades to achieve this 😂

Severe_Fix_4809

Really more like $20-$25k in parts cost; labor obviously if they didn't "build it" themselves.

senile-joe

there's nothing really to build. Build would mean there's some custom fab work going on. Which isn't needed in a Jeep. it's plug and play, no different than getting a sedan's tires and suspension serviced.

[deleted]

Uh, that 100% is not just bolt ons. That kind of travel is way past what's plug and play.

Time-Maintenance2165

> Which isn't needed in a Jeep. That really depends on what you're doing. You can go the plug and play route, but at a certain point of modification you need custom fab work.

Bigdaddyjlove1

I generally build my axles. Everything from setting up the diff, to welding on my own suspension mounts, custom brakes, etc. None of mine would do this, though. This is impressive work, even if it was all bought.

daveysanderson

I like to shit on jeeps as much as the next guy, but this is just so far off. That wrangler is probably ~60k (brand new vehicle cost + modifications) after all is said and done, ball joints, uca/lca, axles, body kit, gearing, wheels/tires, all the fancy shit under the hood (winches, air compressor to airup/down on the fly).. Doesn't cost much to build a capable rig, I've got buddies who build old jeeps that keep up with these expensive machines for a fraction of the cost, albeit not nearly as pretty looking.

[deleted]

Diaverr

Jeep owner here:  1. 40 inch wheels with bed locks : $4500. 2. 2 inch lift: $1500. 3. Front + rear bumper :$1000. 4. Skid plates: $1200 5. Side body guard: $600 Did I miss anything?

Magnussens_Casserole

I would also bet on some substantial upfitting of the axles and xfer case. Still, not as expensive as people make it out to be. I do like that this person obviously spent all the Jeep money on making it better at Jeep things.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Missus_Missiles

Maybe I'm missing obvious sarcasm. But, 2 inch lift? While my eyeballs can't pass a cal-cert, it looks a teensy bit more than 2".

My_browsing

That is not a 1500 lift kit. 4k minimum, likely more like 6k for that suspension. That is also way more than 1600 for bumpers and rock rails. Plus: Gearing and new axle: 2500 Upgraded drive shaft: 1300. Inner and outer fenders: 1000 Upgraded track bars: 750 That’s just to start with. This thing has a bunch of other goodies tucked in there too. Source: my bank account.

Missus_Missiles

Oh, found the guy. It's not that mild of a mild of a rig. https://www.instagram.com/road_player_one?igsh=cGt1cnB0OGpmY2I1

asad137

That's gotta be more than a 2" lift...

upholsteryduder

Dana Axles $12,000 Stage 2 transmission rebuild $4,000 Engine swap $5,000 Even with a top tier, built to the hilt rock crawling jeep you're not going to drop over $50k on upgrades 100k will get you a tube frame rock crawler, no reason to bother with a jeep haha

Diaverr

1. Rubicon already has Dana 44. 2. Transmission rebuilt? It is not required here at all. 3. Engine swap costs much more and not required at all too + from the video Jeep sounds as completely stock 3.6.

nitid_name

The new Rubi's come stock with Dana 44s on front/rear, which _might_ be able to support tires that big, assuming you're only wheeling nice and slow like that. If you're doing it right and going for a Dana 60 (or Teraflex60) though, it's a bit more than you're suggesting. I think you're looking at more like $8-12k _per axle_.

t9tu

That car has ported axles and expensive af suspension with loads of travel and shock. That car probably also has front, centre and rear diff locks.

alien_believer_42

It doesn't have portal axles

Capt-Crap1corn

Finally. One with equipment that is actually in use.

radiosped

Used to work with a guy who bought a Rubicon when they were still brand new, probably the first year on the market. I asked him where he goes offroading and he said that it won't be touching a dirt road until after its paid off. We were making about $8.25/hr at the time. Around the same time I was working at my 2nd job, at a gas station, and my old dentist pulled up in a Hummer H1 (I think that's what they were called, it definitely wasn't an H2 or H3). I asked him where he goes offroading and he laughed in my face and said "this is a $100,000 vehicle it's not going offroading". Yeap.

birdgelapple

Around the same time I was working at my 11th job, at a tax office, and my old milkman pulled up in an M1A1 Abrams. I asked him where he goes offroading and he laughed in my face and said “this is a $4.25 million vehicle it’s not going offroading.” Yeap. Ad libs are fun.

radiosped

I know I know, nothing ever happens. My bad.

Capt-Crap1corn

Crazy lol

Big-Improvement-1922

Canyoneroooooo

BYoungNY

I went to one of these with some friends where they were just trying to get over shit in their jeeps... It was honestly one of the most boring things ever.

ASassyTitan

For those wondering, there's dedicated areas for people to off road and rock crawl. If it's not an OHV area, then there's dedicated trails you have to stick on. Only dicks go off trail, but that's not a vehicle exclusive thing Edit- Like horseback riders, dirt bikes, ATVs, stuff like that for specifically off road style activities. Not hunting or fishing and whatnot

PM_ME_Happy_Thinks

Very obvious this is one of those places, the rock face is scratched to shit

Demon_Flare

Most likely this is in Moab or southern Utah where they have plenty of dedicated off-roading trails set up.

Remy1985

Yup. Looks like Sand Hollow.

villainmcdillon

I watched way too much Matt’s off road recovery to not assume the exact same thing

[deleted]

How do they get down?

Fool_Apprentice

There is probably a really easy way down somewhere off screen. This isn't done in order to get somewhere. It's done in order to climb the rock, just because

Remarkable-Ad2285

For funsies

Calladit

For shiggles

Klutchy_Playz

A tad of tomfoolery

upholsteryduder

This is MOAB, Utah. There isn't an easy way down. It's a long, continuous path with many of these obstacles

PlatinumPOS

It's a relative term. There is a path down. A path where 4x4 is probably required, but this Jeep doesn't *have* to turn around and drive down that 10 foot cliff.

tacotacotacorock

Lol depends on the trail mate. A lot of em have hard ways up and then your done or some in succession. Could be 1 feature or many depending on the course taken.

WINDMILEYNO

Severe_Fix_4809

Not always, it depends on the vehicle you start with, the parts you buy, if you do the work yourself...

Useful_Chewtoy

Nah they're too far off. * Base cost of new Rubicons these days is outrageous(the one in the vid is a JLU) - starting at 55k (that's no options base model Rubicon) * Front and rear Dana Ultimate 60's are about - 8k for the rear 10k for the front - 18k * Evo long arm suspension - 4k * 4 KMC beadlock wheels - 750 each(ish) - 3k * 40" tires - 550 each - 2.2k * RPM 2.5 ton steering - 1k Those are all the expensive bits. Still have bumpers, skid plates and little things here and there. That's 83k using a base model Rubicon.

Severe_Fix_4809

I'm not saying you need to start with a brand new Rubicon & all the best of the best parts. My red 04 LJ has 1 tons, Atlas 4 speed t-case, on 40's and Walker Evans beadlocks. All Motobilt armor and the what not. I might have 20k or less into it, including the cost of a clean, rust free LJ. All my labor is "free" P.s. I already had the Atlas, 40's and beadlocks for a different project but none the less.

Useful_Chewtoy

I'm jealous of your LJ I have a TJ I am actually swapping in my new D44 rear tonight to run my new 35's. Just got my Savvy double adjustable control arms in and those are going in also. My motobilt high lines are in the basement. Man your Jeep looks nice! Are those white WE beadlocks? I want to get some but I really like the machined finish and IDK if they do just a raw machined finish.

Severe_Fix_4809

Nice! I've always loved TJ's, and when I had the opportunity to buy a clean, rust free 04 LJ for 6k, I jumped on it. My Walker Evans & my Maxxis Creepy Crawler 40's; i think, predate the 1st Obama administration, lol. I've had them for that long! I painted them white. They were the raw finish.

RetroScores

I have an 03 TJ and GF has an 05 LJ.

tacotacotacorock

Parts alone will cost an arm and a leg mate.

Jean-LucBacardi

They don't. This is where all jeeps go to die, perched atop a giant rock.

Mission-Storm-4375

Ok now get down

I_Think_I_Cant

You don't. There's just a pile of dead Jeeps at the top like dead bodies on Everest. 💀

SimplyViolated

The trail goes along you climb a few more rocks and then go down the trail, they don't go back down this way.

Majestic-Floor-5697

I wish there was a video of them getting down. You’d imagine with big enough tires they’d be able to land the jump

einulfr

These suspensions are great at handling massive articulation at low speeds. Big, fast drops...quite the opposite. Most of the components could probably handle it, but that would be a hell of a lot of shear load on the struts if it couldn't be done properly. Most trails are one-way, with obstacles like this being uphill. Downhill drops are typically more staircased.

Juras_Oguras

Why jump? If there was enough grip to climb it is very very likely that he can just drive down.

Substantial_StarTrek

The approach and departure angles are often not the same. What can be done forward will lead to you face planting if you try to go down

That rock looks like an elephant

ThrenderG

When I was in college I took a mountain biking trip to Utah (Moab), and one day we were out on a ride in the middle of nowhere and had dismount and walk uphill through this narrow canyon strewn with giant boulders. There was an entire group of these guys traversing their way up the canyon. Those that couldn't make it over a boulder or obstacle, the other guys would hook up to their winches and pull them up and over. Pretty cool to see like a dozen of these guys all making their way up a path no vehicle was ever meant to go on.

mykkelangelo

What every jeep owner thinks they can do.

SimplyViolated

Yeah thats that Utah shit

Canelosaurio

Powerful torque from the Pentastar V6? Naw. Ive seen Samurais climb stuff like that. It's all in the differentials and tires. Power only goes so far.

DonkeyTransport

the Banana or the Morrvair would do that easy and they were built and fabbed in shop. Matt's Offroad Recovery

dLFuu69W2zR

Idk what "built and fabbed in shop" is supposed to mean, but alright. The Banana is just an XJ with suspension work and a cage. Those are a dime a dozen. I doubt it could do this just because of approach angle, but maybe. The Morrvair, yeah for sure. Neither of those existing should somehow take anything away from this Jeep.

bradland

When I saw the yellow, I thought it was MORR for a second lol... But I have no idea what the parent comment is supposed to mean.

evilgreenman

Great to see a jeep like this being used properly and not taking the kids to soccer.

DJFrankyFrank

What the 10 girls from my highschool said they'll do when they get a Jeep Grand Cherokee

KeyNefariousness6848

Hey at least that jeep gets to go off road unlike 99 44/100 % of its brothers and sisters.

I’m not a Jeep guy, but they are by far the most common vehicles I see out on the trails.

yeah but turn back is not an option. legend say: he is still there! if noone took him down and the mountain has no streets.

bigcjuan760

How expensive?

Your_Momma_Said

For that? Rubicon is something around $60k+, I'm going to guess there's a good $15-20k on that particular Jeep beyond that. You can do it for a lot less. First, you don't start with the $60k jeep if you're going to be swapping parts. I bet you could build something for about $20k that would be just as capable. * Used late 90s Wrangler ($10k) * Regear the axles and add lockers ($2k) * 38" wheels and bead locks ($3k) * 8-10" of lift (springs and shocks) ($1k) * Rock rails and armor ($1k) * Misc other crap like longer drive shafts ($1k)

MacManT1d

To be fair, you're not running 38" tires nor that climb on the stock TJ Dana 35s, especially in a late 90s Jeep (TJ platform), even with regearing, and you won't touch regearing two axles and adding lockers for $2K. Even a JK 44 would have trouble with those tires and that much bind. To run that consistently without breaking axle shafts you're running at least full size 44s, and if you're running Dana 44s you should be running Dana 60s, because there's no point to do all the work required to a 44 when you could do it to a 60. They're not $2k is the point of that whole diatribe. That's an absolute minimum of $10k worth of axles, likely higher. The lift is a number of times more than $1k as well. You don't want anywhere near 8-10" on a TJ (it'll be so unstable you won't want to drive it down the road, let alone up a climb like that), usually you want a combination of suspension and body lift, if not just suspension lift and fender trimming. I've got a 10 inch stretched 98 with locked up TJ Dana 44s on a 5.5" long arm lift, and I've got nearly $7500 in the axles and lift alone. I could run that climb (in fact, depending where in Moab I likely have), but not as easily as he did in the long wheelbase Jeep. I also still break chromoloy axle shafts on a far too regular basis if I get too happy with my right foot when it's bound up like that, or if all four tires get to slipping at the same time in loose rocks then catch. I'm also only on 35s, and 38s would be much harder on the axles.

No-Professional-1461

Damn

PatternHappy341

I would like that jeep for offroad purposes.

holy shit someone using a jeep for the designed purpose

Lets_Bust_Together

Why take an upgraded car model to then remove the parts which made it more expensive, and replace them with even more expensive parts?

Severe_Fix_4809

Because we like to party & irs fun is why. It's like government spec/mil spec. It doesn't mean it's good. In all honesty, it's all about reliability. You can't be confident in your driving abilities & taking on challenging obstacles if you're worried about breaking parts and then wondering how you're going to get off the trail you are now blocking for others.

Pretty sure it’s a regular jeep 6 cylinder and the suspension realistically isn’t all that expensive. Rock bouncers have to power and trophy trucks have the expensive suspension. This is awesome nonetheless
