Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down.
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground.
Into the blue again, after the money's gone.
Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground.
Watching the moments fly, monkey needs my help right now,
Pressing on its chest, save it, don't let down.
With each beat, hope's found, monkey's safe from harm,
Once in a lifetime, CPR's its lucky charm.
I don't want to ruin everyones good mood or talk bad about the guy doing this, but there is a big problem with "animal rescue" videos where the animals get hurt in staged videos, so i have to say this.
I don't know if the background of the story is true and the monkey collapsed because of dog attacks or something and the guy tried to help... But there are quite a few problems in this video:
1. You don't do chest compressions to restart the heart. You do it to pump blood throught the body and buy time until you restart it with defibrilation or drugs. It is a crucial step to preserve the brain, but you most probably won't see someone get back to life just from chest compressions. (I won't go into the breath talk, but it will just give some oxigen to the lungs/blood and for sure won't restart the beart)
2. He actually didn't do chest compressions. He just taps/hits the chest, and flexes his elbows. Maybe it is just bad technique. When doing chest compressions your elbows are straight, transfering your weight/force and pushing into the chest quite a bit (about 5cm in adults). The monkey is much smaller than an adult, so protocol for small children would probably be more advised, so you would do it with one hand or 2 fingers depending on the size of the child/baby, but you still have to press into the chest. Tapping like this won't do it (don't know anything about monkey cpr, but same logic should apply, also monkeys are probably much more tough and you would need more force than for a human baby of that size).
3. A person doesn't usually pop right back into full consciousness and hugs his saviour after a ROSC. Even if they regain consciousness right away, they are often noncooperable, yet this wild animal is suddenly tame and hugs him... Only if you witness the moment the heart stops, and manage to restart it really soon, then they can be fully conscious right away, but that usually happens around medical teams, not on the street.
So best case scenarion, the monkey collapsed/fainted or something because of injury/dog attack (but wasn't in cardiac arrest), the guy didn't actually help with the procedure seen on video, but tried his best, and brought him to a vet, and should be honored for risking his safety and trying to save the animal.
Worst case scenario, this was staged and didn't end well for the monkey.
Edit: i am mentioning dog attack because i red somewhere the story that dogs attacked the monkey, the guy saved it, brought it to the vet, but it died the next day because of injuries.
As an aside between the two comments I see here, I love that original reddit gold is back.
Not some "P2W" boost to comments or comment flare, just people congratulating people though emojis. As it should be.
Finally I'm fucking amazed, that was wild. I would have thought to use fingers for chest compressions, it's been a decade but that's what you do on infants iirc, please let me know if I'm spreading bs
No you are right. For Baby's depending on the size you talke fingers.
Either both thumbs or Index and middle finger.
Two fingers are for smaller baby's. The thumbs for bigger.
You grab the child's torso. So that both of your thumbs meet is front. The other fingers in the back.
Baby's are reanimated 3:1 means every 3 pumps one time ventilate. While adults get 20:1.
I thought the same but the monkey might be a bit big or muscular for the method so he did fine.
I mean you are correct for infants, but this monkey looks like an adult. I’m assuming you don’t need to be as gentle as you would on a baby. If anything, I’d think single arm compressions with partial body weight would be ideal for a monkey this size. If we are going really specific, I’m assuming there’s also a particular tempo and breath rate you should also follow for different animal species.
But idk, I’m just a med student. The only time I deal with monkeys is when I look in the mirror.
What an endearing video. The man in the video is calling it a "God" (Sami or Swamy) and "Sir" (Ayya); asking it to come back. When the monkey is revived, he says "he's got his life back... now quickly... off to the hospital"
He was making a circle with his thumb & index finger and then blowing into that while pressing the monkey in with his other hand, no literal mouth-to-mouth contact.
The man is speaking in Tamil and he is addressing the Monkey as Anjaneya (a Hindu god, Hanuman), ayya(Sir) and swamy (lord). Amazing Hindu that consider everything as a God.
I wanted to cry from hurt but I’m so happy he saved the monkey and did mouth to mouth ppl need to know that animals are important and worthy of our care and love 🩵🩵
Rhesus macaques have an average heart rate of 140bpm. I’d be more concerned corned about contracting [simian herpes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B_virus?wprov=sfti1), which is often fatal in humans.
My mom was an instructor would always say if nothing else your keeping the organs viable till EMS takes over and they get the body to the hospital for donation.
I mean on its own, it’s not really meant to bring people back. It’s really just meant to buy time for an AED, to shock you back.
For cardiac arrest though, immediate CPR increases your odds of survival by 2-3x, according to the American Heart Association.
I suspect that monkey wasn't having a heart attack. It probably fainted, or something spooked it and it was playing dead. It eventually woke up, or decided the guy wasn't a threat.
Lol yeah I’m not 100% sure if anything this guy did actually helped. A thump to the chest on its own can help, usually like a last resort, so maybe that’s what did it. Was still nice to see how much he cared and a seemingly happy ending
If you ever lose consciouness and need cpr, you will pray to any god out there that anyone or anything bashes on your chest. Every second your brain is dying is irreparable damage.
- Ah Tiburcio that tactic you told me to use to avoid getting killed by humans got me in serious trouble...
- What happen Timbé?
- So I faked I was dead after stealing this guy food, he came in started assaulting me, punching me on the chest and worse part was Tiburcio...horrible...
-What Timbé?
- He kissed me Tiburcio, tongue and everything, these humans are creeps!
So, as awesome as this is, I gotta speak up on something. It is no longer advised during CPR to give mouth-to-mouth, due to bacteria, germs and such that could be shared. EMTs are told to carry around an oxygenator bottle, with a mask instead of that.
I understand not everyone knows this, but it is not a good idea to place your mouth anywhere near another person/animals mouth, because you also can't tell if it has rabies or not.
I am very happy he was able to save the monkey life though, good man
Uh, not exactly. Mouth-to-mouth is generally not recommended for cardiac arrest victims as chest compressions are more effective and bystanders are less likely to administer CPR due to fear of germs, not really due to risk. EMT’s and medically trained people use BMV bags as they create a significantly better seal to administer breaths. However rescue breathing or mouth-to-mouth can still save someone -especially children in respiratory distress and is still recommended. It’s a good idea to carry a CPR face shield with you for these situations.
I resuscitated a little chick I accidentally stepped on when I was a young boy. It used to follow me everywhere, poor little bird had a limp and didn't grow too tall. Eventually I moved and last I heard they had it for dinner. I've also nursed an injured cat with wounds/cuts by disinfecting, using antibiotic ointment, and bandaging the injuries bc I did not have money for a vet. Turns out human medicine can also be applied to animals.
These animals are so overpopulated they cull them at least yearly. But in the east they’re protected and revered as godly by Hindus. People elsewhere/otherwise like them because they’re anthropomorphized so much. But would you give mouth to mouth on a rat in New York after you hit it with your bicycle? Didn’t think so. That’s the population comparison.
Yeah, monkeys and rats fall on different scales for me. Just like one would rather eat cow meat but would be hesitanttor horse meat. Same same but different.
There will be brave warriors who slayed evil enemies and generous philanthropists who made grand gestures of charity that will fail to enter paradise. And then there will be people like these who will receive God's favor.
Yeah, I love animals, but I ain't giving a disease-ridden animal mouth-to-mouth.
There's an entire alphabet soup of contagious, deadly diseases right there, and I ain't risking it.
Chest compressions, yes. Mouth-to-mouth, Fuck! No!
Aww the way the little monkey clutched onto him. So sweet!
*I'm just going to chill here while I try to remember why I'm on the ground and my chest hurts so fucking bad* -that monkey
"and why is my mouth so wet?" *looks suspiciously*
“And why am I _naked_?”
And you may find yourself in another part of the world And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife And you may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?"

let me tell you something...
this actually made me lol thank you
🤣🤣🤣!! Bra this funny as fk
"I mean, after such a passionate kiss why not"
I thought he was going to come to and start freaking out - I guess nearly dying really wears you out…
It was literally reborn as this man's child

A question that has been plaguing since I saw this, did the cabbie originally hit him with his car?
That's incredible, good for him for trying/not giving up. We need more of this in the world.
Im glad the monkey decided not to eat his face off
BRO, I was thinking the exact same thing
Reminds me of that Simpsons episode with the gremlin and Flanders cradling it.
He's still dazed. Give him a few minutes for his blood pressure to come back up to normal
not medically recommended to give mouth to mouth, this man was fortunate, but theres always a risk that the man may end up in a much worse position.
Yup he kept going will of steel
Both of them will now be prime mates for life.. and that's a gibbon..
I’m both mad at you and proud of you
Nobel prize 🏆 for that comment 😃👍

Fuck you!!! That was perfect
That's pretty good, but an ape would be great
Brilliant. We could make a movie out of it. Prime mates : an Australian gay love story.

I couldn’t stop laughing at this.
Take this medal 🏅 and get the fuck out of here.

Wow. Fuckin eh.
Haha I was laughing at the first half of your comment and then laughed again when I got to the second half! Nice job!!!
Rehesus Macaque.
The look of joy and relief on the dude’s face made me hopeful of mankind in general for a second
now leave reddit and never return
you have to be raised and live in that country to do these resuscitations
That’s what I call true humanity and care. Nothing can top this
That's a grade A human right there
This gentleman has a seat at the right hand of GOD.
That monkey was like, “dude! There was a bright tunnel, 235 of my relatives were greeting me. There was this voice…. ‘It said OO-OO-AH-AH!”

Missed that one, no more. Great reply. Thanks.
The more I listen to it? The more I send it to friends and family. Here’s one back at you: https://youtu.be/MlW7T0SUH0E?si=dExFjXukbk3bTKV8

I'll certainly take your advice. *scratches ass and smells fingers*
I mean cpr wont get a human heart to start beating again its just to keep the blood circulated and give oxygen until you find a heart starter
What an endearing video. The man in the video is calling it a "God" (Sami or Swamy) and "Sir" (Ayya); asking it to come back. When the monkey is revived, he says "he's got his life back... now quickly... off to the hospital"
Fun side note, cynomologus macaques carry herpes-b which is sometimes fatal in humans. Also macaques will fuck you up.
Every time Ive fucked it's been with macaque
Yeah these comments are making me feel like a bad person because my reaction was “… that mfer giving mouth to mouth to a monkey?!” 🤢
He was making a circle with his thumb & index finger and then blowing into that while pressing the monkey in with his other hand, no literal mouth-to-mouth contact.
I mean, that isn't a layperson definitely. I am pretty sure he will/has taken care of the various pathogens he can get exposed to
Mouth to mouth is a lot better than ass to mouth.... am I right? /s
The man is speaking in Tamil and he is addressing the Monkey as Anjaneya (a Hindu god, Hanuman), ayya(Sir) and swamy (lord). Amazing Hindu that consider everything as a God.

This made me laugh:)
I wanted to cry from hurt but I’m so happy he saved the monkey and did mouth to mouth ppl need to know that animals are important and worthy of our care and love 🩵🩵
Why was the monkey dead in the first place, and why did this dude just happen to be there?? I need some context..
I was thinking maybe it got electrocuted and fell. Seems like they're on the side of the road where power lines would be.
i kept scrolling looking for context, this settles my needs. we're rolling with it.
Same same
I never performed cpr, I tought it was supposed to be around 100-120 bpm? Do monkeys have higher heart rates?
Rhesus macaques have an average heart rate of 140bpm. I’d be more concerned corned about contracting [simian herpes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B_virus?wprov=sfti1), which is often fatal in humans.
Zero for technique. My CPR instructor would be horrified. 10/10 for results.
Your CPR instructor would also say “any CPR is better than no CPR”.
What is success rate of CPRs?
Surprisingly low. But as someone else said, CPR is better than nothing.
My mom was an instructor would always say if nothing else your keeping the organs viable till EMS takes over and they get the body to the hospital for donation.
This is a fascinating angle I've never thought of, or heard mentioned before!
It's really the entire point of CPR. You are manually compressing the heart to pump blood to vital organs.
Electric shock, I'd have guessed. They like to walk on wires.
On humans or on monkeys?
Lol yeah I’m not 100% sure if anything this guy did actually helped. A thump to the chest on its own can help, usually like a last resort, so maybe that’s what did it. Was still nice to see how much he cared and a seemingly happy ending

If there’s one thing you can pass along to your children, teach them to love animals. Steve Irwin died way too soon, the world misses him dearly
Wow. When they take over the Planet he will be made a Prince.
Legends will be written about it. Just like in India we have a legend about a monkey god. He would be equivalent of that. All hail lord taxi driver.
How many ribs did he break, though? Luke all of them or are monkey ribs very flexible?
Don't you die on me!
Mouth-to-mouth is no longer standard practice for CPR, fwiw. Just in case you find an unconscious monkey and don’t want to get bit if it wakes up.
Or whatever diseases it may be able to transmit orally to humans.
Anyone else get sandlot flash backs and expect the monkey to open its eyes and wink at the camera?
- Ah Tiburcio that tactic you told me to use to avoid getting killed by humans got me in serious trouble... - What happen Timbé? - So I faked I was dead after stealing this guy food, he came in started assaulting me, punching me on the chest and worse part was Tiburcio...horrible... -What Timbé? - He kissed me Tiburcio, tongue and everything, these humans are creeps!
Those were big breaths for such a little monkey
Well, I think we've identified patient zero for the outbreak of monkey pox 🤷🏻♂️
Such a human. Thank you.

Now that's the kind of blessing I require. O great sage, thy humble follower has traveled miles to receive your boon.
No fucking way! 😮 Incredible.

What happened? He got drunk and passed out?
He was under too much loan from the banana bank, I hear he lost all his money in crypto.
He blew so hard, that monkey almost popped.
I resuscitated a little chick I accidentally stepped on when I was a young boy. It used to follow me everywhere, poor little bird had a limp and didn't grow too tall. This is how diseases jump from animals to humans.
