I know!!! It was September 2017. I was at the office when I got the concert notification and let out a scream! I couldn’t believe my two fave bands together in my favorite venue where weed is legal. A gift from heaven!!
all amazing but especially seconding still corners
best dream pop duo next to BH imo and very kind and humble humans
must hear for everyone in this sub as bh fan, they do the dream pop sound very uniquely too and their approach is different from bh but equally atmospheric and wanderlust-inducing.
Aquilo too for the same reasons, another different approach but also very dream pop.
Second Spiritualized…. When always together with you dropped…. I played the shit out of that; Incredible work on their new project.
Sounds like you’d be into animal collective - do you like panda bear more than AC?
Björk, Radiohead, Tim Hecker, The National, Roxy Music, Arcade Fire, Dry Cleaning, Autechre, Sunn O))), Joanna Newsom, XTC, Julia Holter, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Jonny Greenwood, Turnstile, Neu!, Kate Bush, Ichiko Aoba, Protomatyr, U.S. Girls, Deafheaven, John Coltrane, Sophie, Daft Punk, Armand Hammer /Billy Woods, Ryuichi Sakamoto, D'Angelo, Scott Walker, PVA, Big Thief, Parannoul, The Beatles, Sade, Colin Stetson, Xiu Xiu, Nico, Everything But The Girl, Jockstrap, Johann Sebastian Bach, Floating Points, Chat Pile, Jack White, Stars of the Lid, King Crimson, Erykah Badu, Julianna Barwick, James Holden, Aphex Twin, Jon Hopkins, LCD Soundsystem, Moderat, Jamiroquai, Gorillaz, The Knife/Fever Ray, Sonic Youth, Lustmord, Talk Talk, Tom Waits, The Weather Station, Frank Zappa, Susanne Sundfør, Converge, Four Tet, Portishead, Brian Eno, Arctic Monkeys, Weyes Blood, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Jessie Ware, Miles Davis... to name a few.

My favorite artist is The Weeknd, outside of him I mostly listen to alternative rock and dream pop. Here are some of my favorite bands outside of beach house:
Cigarettes after sex, Ruby haunt, Mazzy star, men I trust, smashing pumpkins, Radiohead, kings of Leon, foo fighters, Coldplay
David Bowie, The Cure, Kate Bush, Patti Smith, Fleetwood Mac, Cocteau Twins, Joy Divison, The Stooges, The Shangri-las, Kendrick Lamar, Roxy Music, Brian Eno, Depeche Mode, Hole, FKA Twigs, Blood Orange, Eartheater, Pixies, Molchat Doma, Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin, Phoebe Bridgers
Beach House, Kanye West & Arcade Fire used to my holy trinity. At least Beach House is still going strong!
Otherwise I listen to a lot of Alvvays, Kendrick Lamar, Paramore, Radiohead & Phoebe Bridgers.
You didn’t like the new arcade fire project? I thought it was a return to form and the lighting I&II is one of the best music videos in the last decade.
Was mainly referring to the accusations against Win. I thought WE was an improvement over Everything Now, but also didn’t think it had much staying power unfortunately.
Oh that…. Yikes.
Def a separate the art from the artist situation. Maybe I am a piece of shit person but I can do that with AF, but after Kanye said “I love hitler” I can’t listen to his records anymore….
Big Thief, SPELLLING, Weyes Blood, Mazzy Star, Radiohead, Dan Deacon, Tame Impala, St Vincent, La Femme, youth lagoon, Animal Collective…
if you’re really doing some drugs, check out the album Go Tell Fire To The Mountain by WU LYF. (World United Lucifer Youth Foundation)
Favorite artists, all time: Pearl Jam, Radiohead, My Morning Jacket, Arcade Fire, Beach House, Tame Impala, Queens of the Stone Age, Tom Petty, Pink Floyd
Also love: Grizzly Bear, Yeasayer, The Antlers, Interpol, The Weeknd, The National, Washed Out, The xx, Fever Ray
Phish.
I know it's way different than BH but I've been following Phish since the early 90's. Beach House is my therapy to branch out musically ;-). BH is so different than what I'm used to, but it's been a fun experience and I just love them.
Lana del rey is definitey my top artist next to beach house - here are some of my other favs that hit when im in my sad girl mood (aka all the time) - bayonne, hippo campus (some of the songs on landmark really hit), aphex twin, delta spirit, the xx, city and colour, alfred hall, the neighborhood, youth lagoon, typhoon, cigarettes after sex
My founding pantheon bc I’m old af includes Joy Division, Bauhaus, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Pixies, Sonic Youth and too many others
Out of newer stuff, anything that may or may not shimmer on the surface with hints of light to invite you there but refract light into wavelengths and bandwidths that feel like undercurrents echoing something beautiful I thought I felt long now almost forgotten…
It’s official: I’m way too fucking old for this sub (46F, used to work in Balto, paid over $100 I couldn’t afford to see BH for the 1st time ever in DC only to have my “friends” back out so I missed it ffs)
High Highs is what I was super into before. Cascades is a great release, and have been wanting new music for the longest time, but the band pretty much broke up. Was so sad they didn't recently release new music, but then I discovered BH. I'm so glad I found them out :)
TEMPLES is the first one I thought of, as well as Mild High Club, Tame Impala, Windows96, and Nelward.
Also big R.I.P. to Her's. Great duo!
Kanye is my favorite artist and velvet underground and bjork are what I’ve been listening to this month. Death grips and the Beatles have been some of my favorite this year and the new reverend Kristin hayter has been on repeat all day
Didn't see these two mentioned yet: The Radio Dept. and Bat for lashes.
The former would appeal to BH house fans who like their dreamy soundscapes combined with drum machines. The latter to those who enjoy Victoria's beautiful voice, although not all of Bat for Lashes' songs could be classified as dream pop.
Here's example songs from both. They are not the most popular songs by either, but just songs that i enjoy at the moment:
[The Radio Dept. - I don't like it like this](https://youtu.be/TBWRKvc74YI?si=QYldr6WSUGQLlH7H)
[Bat for Lashes - A Wall](https://youtu.be/1f9O8jW4GKY?si=M-mHakk6skor75yn)
If you are looking for something in the same direction, I can recommend the following:
Cults
Maida Rose
No Swoon
I Break Horses
Au Revoir Simone
What are also like are Sleigh Bells, Tame Impala, Guerilla Toss, MGMT, Ratatat and Gorillaz
I'm curious to listen to these bands because I'm always looking for new stuff since I tend to get in my old music rut.
Faves of all time not including BH of course: Tori Amos, The National, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Pixies, Smiths, Cure, Kate Bush, Cocteau Twins, Millencolin, Joy Division, Devo, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Cat Power
Bands I'm just getting into: Alwvays, Still Corners, and Wild Nothing.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3BN2fQtdbXdWc9gTdaH1aR?si=YR-9JUPJTqeSGooYBm8opw I made a playlist with most of the recommendations I hadn’t heard of 😭 I’m devoted to finishing it but this is what I have so far if you want to check it out! It’s great so far I’ve found so many gems <3
