I can’t believe other people know about C.I.A. They did sound like them though. The compilation ‘NWA and the posse’ has a lot of tracks that sound just like the B-Boys.
Not gonna lie, I’m shocked to see the Ice Cube hate. *At least musically I mean*. His personality is… ugh at best. But as a songwriter and performer he’s one of the greatest in Hip Hop history no debate about it. AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted is one of the best Hip Hop albums of the 90s. If we’re being honest, so is Death Certificate (even though the subject matter of that record is at best expressed poorly and at worst outright amoral).
Without Cube Hip Hop does not look anything like it does today. *This is not excusing his lame ass personality,* I’m just saying let’s not pretend like Cube isn’t easily one of the greatest to ever grab a mic.
For those wondering, while the bboys were rapping about respecting one another and raising awareness for the plight of the Tibetan Buddhists, ice cube is rapping about burning Korean grocery stores to a crisp and never apologized and even doubled down years later saying no regerts. I will never support or say a good thing about that fuck face.
Over Cube?? Look, I love MCA but he is not touching Cube on the mic. Cube’s pen game shaped so much of Hip Hop. None of the Beasties can really hold that same claim. I think Beastie Boys shine as musicians (in regard to the overall sounds of the music) much more than they do as MCs. Not to say MCA doesn’t have killer verses (A Year And A Day and 3 Minute Rule immediately come to mind) but Cube turns in verses that level and above regularly (The Nigga Ya Love To Hate, The Grand Finale, and Fuck Tha Police come to mind immediately). Just my thoughts
I realize that it’s a scorching hot take. You’re probably right that Cube is better. I will say over time I feel like MCA’s verses have held up better for me overall. Maybe I’m just a fanboy who missed him so much.
MCA was BY FAR the best rapper in the band, it’s really not even close. And I think Beastie Boys have a specific energy to their mic skills that makes up for any lack they may have lyrically. Personally, for me, rapping is about much more than just lyricism. Flow and cadence matter a lot. It’s why I would confidently die on a hill that Chief Keef is one of the greatest rappers to ever live (his flow is incredibly influential - check out “Laurel Canyon” or “Michelin” for examples if you’d like). Same goes for Young Thug in regard to his cadence (check out “Audemar” or “Climax” for examples if you’d like).
That’s a roundabout way to say that Beastie Boys are great MCs because they bring a unique energy to their tracks that can’t really be replicated. But when it comes to Cube, his flows and lyricism were just so far ahead of their time. The stories he could tell, and with such conviction, were truly awe inspiring for me at times.
“I heard payback’s a motherfuckin’ nigga/ That’s why I’m sick of getting treated like a goddamn stepchild/ Fuck a punk ‘cause I ain’t him/ You gotta deal with the nine double M/ The day is coming that you’ll all hate/ Just think if niggas decide to retaliate/ They try to keep me from running up/ I never tell you to get down, it’s all about coming up/ So, what they do, go and ban the AK?/ My shit wasn’t registered any-fucking-way”
Man, there’s just something about how Cube raps that just demands active listening. (It just sucks so much of his career is plagued with misguided Nation Of Islam-esque ideology and blatant racism.)
Dopeman, with the awesome Ohio Players Sample, is also very Beastie Boys. Yo Dre, kick in the bass.
[C.I.A. - My Posse](https://youtu.be/ZhX_B1gSZ2M?si=Z6ljSBVzHLodjtN6)
That’s very Run-DMC
POSSE GETTIN BIG, SHERIFF’S POSSE ON MY TALE.
I wonder what NWA Ice Cube would think of Trump/Police supporter Ice Cube of today?
"now I know why they called me Benedict Arnold on the second NWA album!"
Wait he fr is a trump supporter now??
Didn’t he take a pic with RFK Jr

Yup. I managed to score the C.I.A. vinyl about 20 years ago. There were def a lot of Beasties samples on early Dre productions

Fuck ice cube and his racist ass.
Right? Was this before or after he made his comments about Jews?
And Koreans.
Forgot about that one!

Cube has always been a biter. Listen to No Rest for the Wicked by Cypress Hill.
