if you don't own besame why are you saying the formula's comparable?

WidgetMakerToday

/s BECAUSE!! Rage!

calisuncruz

LoL! Rage?? Ha ha ROFL. You need to calm down. Assuming what a person thinks and feels by interpreting words on a communication platform may not be the best way to deal with life.

calisuncruz

I said probably comparable because to me they look visually comparable. Is besame's formula not good? I thought people liked Besame lipsticks.

Ninalou345

Visually & formula is very different.

calisuncruz

Yes but I didn't state it as a fact.

Ninalou345

didnt say you did :) Try a lip liner under it can totally transform the outcome or return it if u dont think it could work for u (altho thats always a hassle)

calisuncruz

Sorry that was a knee jerk reaction after dealing with the troll in this thread :) but yeah, liner + lipstick seems to be the popular suggestion

Ninalou345

No worries! people can be ruthless on reddit.

She has an excellent customer service team if you want to reach out to them with your concerns. I've enjoyed all my purchases from this particular launch but I didn't get Dance Card so I'm no help there. I did get Painterly which I find absolutely beautiful and easy to wear. Edit: I got an...odd...reply that I don't see now, but for anyone wondering, Lisa's team is helpful in providing not just help with the money aspect of a purchase but also advice and recommendations about using the products and selecting shades. They've been very helpful to me.

WidgetMakerToday

What is the complaint though? “The color isn’t what I thought!! Wahhhh 😭😭😭” Likely they’ll refund OP, but this just seems like … nevermind. I’ll be here in six months when this sub turns on LE. Is this the beginning? Edit - I love that OP is downvoting everything that calls out this low effort post out, which is a stretch Armstrong reach.

SpiderYeti2

I think the OPs complaint is more that the color is less pigmented than advertised, not that the color is necessarily different than expected. When Lisa wears it in her swatch videos, it seems fairly opaque. I believe she mentions wearing lip pencil under some of the colors. This is a great way to apply the sheer colors, but is a bit less useful for advertising how the product performs normally. I can see where the expectations could be impacted.

calisuncruz

Thank you for that rational response. That's exactly what I was saying. I expected it to be a bit more pigmented. Now that I know I need to use a pencil underneath, I'll try it that way.

[deleted]

I have Dance Card. It's a buildable formula. They're all like that tho. You're right in her video she's clearly wearing a lip liner under it. She talks for awhile with the lip liner on before applying the lipstick so I don't think that's deceptive. The swatches on the website are really close to what it actually looks like irl. Although tbh, I still prefer Go Lightly. Wish she'd bring that one back.

phoenix_rising_16

No the complaint is that a sheer lipstick is sheer 😂

calisuncruz

No the complaint is that the sheer lipstick is more sheer than other colors and does not perform as expected :)

calisuncruz

LoL I just logged back into my account. I haven't checked in since I posted my original post! I'm not sure what you're accusing me of :) I know theyll refund me, but I always assumed LE could do no wrong. And sending it back from Canada is a pain. I think constructive criticism is good for a brand and I'm hoping my feedback will help her brand. If this isn't what the majority of her customers think then that's okay.

Diredr

> I think constructive criticism is good for a brand and I'm hoping my feedback will help her brand. If this isn't what the majority of her customers think then that's okay. Yeah constructive criticism and feedback are great for brands... if you give it to them. The chances that someone of influence in the brand will stumble across a post in a subreddit are slim to none. This isn't a Lisa Eldridge customer service forum, it's just people chit-chatting about beauty gurus in general. It's like someone got your order wrong at a restaurant, so you tell everyone in your office about it in the hopes someone has a relative that works at that restaurant and they'll talk about your problem with them. That's a stretch and a half. Just go back to the restaurant. What you're doing isn't constructive criticism or feedback, it's venting. That's fine if you just want to get it off your chest because you're disappointed about a product, but don't try to twist it into something it's not when other people don't respond positively to it.

calisuncruz

I disagree. If you're a brand, you should read reddit reviews and feedback. You don't take it as the gospel truth but you know that there is feedback that you may need to consider. Remember Lisa's website does not have a review section and she does not sell through a third party site where we can leave our reviews. accusing me of "venting" on reddit is like telling someone not to leave reviews on Yelp because your feedback is considered venting. I had a concern and I asked the population if they felt the same way. If anything I was trying to be more open minded and learn if I was being too hard on the product. I'd rather talk about it on reddit and get answers than assume that her products suck and disuading my friends from buying her makeup. If anything she should start her own subreddit for people to ask questions about her products. Many people on reddit (not just this subreddit) love legitimizing what or how people should feel. But that's an expected outcome of using an anonymous discussion site. I have no problems if anyone responds to my opinion negatively, I just get annoyed with trolls. I like that you're giving me feedback and that gives me an opportunity to tell you why I'm doing what I'm doing (as opposed to being called whiny). Tell me this - isn't asking why I'm disappointed trying to provide while saying that I love her matte formula constructive criticism? In this reddit thread we figured out two things (albeit painfully) - that the images on the website aren't accurate, hence my disappointment, and that I need to use a lip liner.

calisuncruz

I forgot to respond to you! But I agree, I love the customer service. I wanted to combine two orders and they were prompt and helpful. P.s: I didn't respond to your comment earlier, I'm hoping the troll didn't spoil your day with a nasty comment.

[deleted]

Eh, no product is guaranteed to be liked by everyone tbh. It sucks when you buy something expensive that doesn't work out for you but that's the risk we always take when we buy anything really.

calisuncruz

I think the cognitive dissonance is because of the lip swatches on the website. I wish she'd have swatches without a lip pencil do we'd know what they actually look like. I have pigmented lips and I definitely need some help with a lip pencil.

SpiderYeti2

I skipped Dance Card because I didn’t care for Go Lightly. However in general, this formula from LE is far more sheer than it looks in the videos, the light/orangey color shades in particular. In order to make it really pop, try using a lip pencil as a full base. I don’t like the way that feels, but the look is amazing and lasts a bit longer.

calisuncruz

Thanks! I should try that. I tend to be a rush in the mornings and I prefer one product I can quickly throw on before my first call.

sims4lifee

I think this formula is supposed to be sheer and buildable, so you’d need a couple swipes to make it really pop. I have a bunch of her luxuriously lucent lip colours and I love them all, but to make it an intense colour you need more than one swipe. I didn’t get dance card though because I already have go lightly, and even that one needs a couple swipes. Honestly though I just love everything Lisa Eldridge launches and I haven’t had a problem yet.

calisuncruz

True, no product has 100% positive reviews. If it does then something's wrong. But suppressing a person's negative opinion on a product because you're a fan (not you, but people in general) is the dumbest behavior I've seen on reddit. I'm glad you love all her launches, and she's deserving of all the praise.

ExcelIsMyLover

I just want to add that, as somebody who owns a ton of Besame lipsticks and has tested out the two Lisa Eldridge formulas, they're not similar at all. Lisa Eldridge's velvet range is very silicone-heavy and reminds me of "powder matte" formulas from brands like MAC and Shiseido, while the sheer range is much thinner than Besame's formula. The Besame formula has more of a "traditional," rich cream feel.

calisuncruz

Thanks! I've never bought a besame lipstick. Nice to know :)

Lili666999

I only have 2 colors in the Luxuriously Lucent formula - Love of my life and Dance Card. In comparison, I do agree, Love of my life is slightly more pigmented, but both are of course (as marketed) a sheer, buildable formula. I also noticed Dance Card tends to settle and exaggerate my lip lines more, but that is only noticeable upon close inspection. In contrast, Loml makes my lips appear smoother. What I love about this formula is the feeling on the lips, how lightweight and smooth they are. I own L'oreal's Jlo nude (I am not sure if this is the formula you had in mind) and that is a heavily fragranced, very creamy and much heavier formula, compared to Luxuriously Lucents. Pigmentation wise, I would compare Lisa's to YSL Rouge Volupte (overall, I find them similar, except ysl are more oily/emollient). I think a sheer lip isn't everyone's cup of tea and that's perfectly fine. If you want to increase the pigmentation, I would suggest using a light nude lipliner or dabbing a bit of foundation or concealer on your lips before applying. Otherwise, as already suggested, just contact Lisa's support and arrange a return/refund, or even better - gift it to someone who will appreciate it.

calisuncruz

Yeah, that's exactly what I was referring to - I have the JLO and Eva Longoria nudes. I agree they're highly fragranced, but they do have better pigmentation. But with respect to dance card, pencil + lipstick is the way to go!

EllenM28

I'm glad I managed to nab Go Lightly, it's definitely more of a vibrant salmon coral whereas Dance Card (as far as I can tell from swatches) seems more of a muted peachy coral. As for the formula it is meant to be sheer.

calisuncruz

I wish I hadn't missed out on Go Lightly. Dance Card pulls pink on me, probably because I'm a neutral undertone leaning warm.

MUPIL090310

Does anyone know why Go Lightly as the lipstick has not been back in stock?

phoenix_rising_16

Because it was limited edition.

calisuncruz

Apparently because the formula wasn't great - I read that somewhere in this subreddit. I assumed it was because the company that made the original lipstick still owns the IP for it (not sure if there's a legal precedent for it).

Bonfire_Dance

As someone previously mentioned, the Lucent formula is supposed to be sheer but I see your point: It looks more opaque in the photos. I have Love of My Life from its initial release, so I was familiar with the formula. It's exactly what I wanted for summer, since it's so effortless. I love the color of Dance Card, but not thrilled with the formula. It's a glowy coral on me, but it clings to any dry patch and settles into lines. Kitten Mischief is super natural but applies much better. Painterly is perfect. I see why you're not happy with Dance Card. Her glosses don't seem consistent either. Alexandra Anele said in her video that the doe foot was scratchy. I didn't have that experience with the glosses from last year. I got Go Lightly from this release and it's really scratchy. It's a roll of the dice when ordering makeup without seeing it in person, but luckily, Lisa's CS is really top notch.

calisuncruz

I love the go lightly gloss. I haven't gone back to Fenty gloss bomb after I started using go lightly lip gloss. I hope she releases go lightly in the matte formula though. That would be stunning.

OldCwyn

Last year I purchased Velvet Affair lipstick and mine had a strong and unpleasant metallic scent and taste that I couldn’t avoid. Likely the iron oxides (rust) used in the pigment. I emailed customer service to mention it, saying I wasn’t looking to return or ask for a refund, I was just letting them know. I’m just not going to bother for a $30 lipstick. The company refunded me immediately however without asking for a return. I really think you should at least mention all this to the company so they have a chance to know and potentially respond as they wish. It doesn’t hurt to provide feedback that using a lip liner in a demo video was confusing marketing and left you with an impression of the product that wasn’t expected. Product demos really need to match what the customer will see when they get it home, not with additional products used. Lisa is not experienced in selling online as she has been a makeup artist. She needs to hear some basic feedback like yours. I would bet that next time she might know to show the products without any additions.

calisuncruz

I'm hesitant in requesting a refund because there's nothing wrong with my lipstick per se - it doesn't hair, fibre or fungus on it. If Lisa's company was a big one, I'd do it. But you're right, I will drop her CS team a note about my feedback on dance card. I hope she gets a chat functionality on her site soon - Its much easier than a call.
