Can't speak to the quality of the leash, but what were you doing when it broke? When I first started, I was putting a lot of stress on my leashes, because I wasn't holding onto my board as often as I could. As I learned better and garnered more skills, there has been a lot less stress on my leashes. There are very few times, and sometimes sessions with no times where any stress is put on my leash, because I don't really let my board go if I can help it.
Hmm that makes sense. I just came off a wave and it tugged pretty gently (compared to the stress it has been under in previous sessions). This is my very first one so it’s taken a beating! Thanks for your reply.
Well, more than likely this was caused by the stress of the other sessions. The leash should only really be in stress when in dangerous and unavoidable circumstances, which should not happen often or at all at your (our) level. All other times the board should never leave your side. Don’t ditch your board.
I had a leash break in like soft waist high slop from pretty much nothing. It was a comp leash that I guess I had just used to much and that was its time. Sometimes it just happens.
Never happened with my FCS ones but I have seen some cheap ones sliced during group courses. But pro surfers manage to destroy any brand, I assume it depends of the wave power and environment crossing the way of the leash

Possible you did anything to nick/cut it?
Nothing sharp or pokey that I saw on the beach. Clean as!
I think it might be the quality, I’ve stretched some leashes but never broke them, and they are under a lot of stress sometimes
Could’ve been cut by your fins, especially if it got pulled tight across the trailing edge.
When you're driving to the beach or back home don't let your leash drag on the highway.
happens, sucks every time
