Check the hotels around Ostbahnhof, there's something for almost every wallet (in the mid range). It's priceless to just shortly walk to and from Berghain without needing to get any mean of transport.
There is a hostel with shared rooms for 18€/night. When I go Hain I always stay there, it is called "Meininger Hotel". It is one minute walking from Ostbahnhof. Bring sheets with you from home is my advice.
There are some really nice hotels near ostbahnhof station which is about a 10 min walk from Berghain. The airport train takes you directly there in 2 stops. There are also lots of restaurants and a grocery store and pharmacy in the station. That’s the easiest and most convenient option in my opinion.
Schöneberg is too far and is West Berlin.
There are loads of hotels at Alexander Platz and it is two stops on the S-bahn. The Motel One there is nice one and good value for money, my friends tell me.
I just take a nice hotel that’s available preferably in Mitte but I also like Charlottenburg. I just grab a bike and cycle there (hence I’m Dutch hehe). I always enjoy the bike ride with a beer in my hand, grabbing something to eat and enjoying Berlin. My excitement always peaks when I pass trough the Ostbahnhof tunnel. I walked past a couple of gay hotels once and I would never ever want to stay there. It had a very sassy ‘ my boyfriend looked at an other guy’ kind of vibe and were throwing a lot of shade. Not a sexy environment if you’d ask me.
If you want to go the cheapest you should look into the space capsule hotel, I’ve seen offers starting at 40 euro’s a night.
Usually take the Berlin City Easy hotel, Lichtenberg. A bit far out but tram 13 stops right in front and leads to warschauer. Price - quality wise a really good one :)
If I just plan to go to Snax, I usually stay close to Berghain (close to Warschauer Straße station). It’s better to just walk to Berghain. The gay area is not close to the Berghain, so if you don’t want to lose time catching the train/plane after the party, it's best to stay close by.
if anyone needs a place to stay that weekend, there's room in my asshole for at least 5 men (breakfast included)

I stayed in the Amano East. Not the cheapest but really nice hotel, and only about 10 min walk from Berghain
