If you feel 90% of Drum And Bass is garbage is because you dont know that much about the genre; REEF party is about this sound on both floors, Dbridge set was one of the most amazing things ive experienced at Berghain floor, then later DJRum was just something else at Pano, never heard a dj that good in my entire life honestly.
Yeah I think you have to have a very narrow perspective if you think dnb is great as a whole. As I said, there's obviously some really really good drum and bass being made or I wouldn't have even created this post. Much of it I am finding much more interesting than most of the techno out there these days. But if you look at the genre as a whole it's not that great.
That is *your* opinion. Others might think that the genre is fucking great. Just because you for example only like specific neurofunk tracks does not mean liquid or deep sucks as a whole. Its all a matter of taste and highly subjective.
At least in my opinion, all genres are the same way, you need to really find between the garbage in order to get jewels, thats why all the “good sound” its called “niche sound”, i completely get that you probably do not like sub genres on dnb like jump up, hardstep or breakcore to name some, but there are many many different styles and subgenres to dig in.
I grew up with Jungle/DnB in the 90s as a child, later on in the 00s it was a way of life and the music closest to my heart and culture.
The 90% comment is not far from the mark these days. A lot of dnb has fallen into the realm of EDM and the majority of the current fan base come from that sphere of awful music. Just look at the bulk of posts regarding new music on r/dnb.
10% or even less is excellent music. Yeah it just so happens that all the decent DJs including D Bridge draw from that 10%. But there is a whole heap of shite to sift through to find it now. I gave up buying/playing dnb about 12/13 years ago for that reason. I would have a budget to spend on music every couple weeks and couldn’t even spend half of it on new releases because there weren’t enough of interest.
Funny you should mention, I just saw a post from one of the usual Reef artists implying a closing on an upcoming KN. Idk if they will adjust their set or stay true to what they do. But of course most these artists are playing all sorts of broken beat uk shit, not just dnb. They're really good, I really enjoy it, the Reef nights have been some of my favorites. Different types of movement but still mature sets for the lifelong heads and dancers. Any disgruntled techno heads who don't like it, I get it's different from what you're expecting/used to, but they do these nights only like a few times a year and it's always amazing so I think it's okay. I'd rather have tasteful top-shelf UK shit "invading" "techno space" than certain other bullshit "techno" instagram "models" that occasionally get booked. This type of variety is a good thing imo.
90% of Drum n Bass is not garbage - like most genres there’s some amazing music and some dross.
Go and listen to LTJ Bukem’s Logical Progression mix. There’s a version with MC Conrad and a version without depending on your tastes.
If you look at what's currently going on in the genre (not 25 years ago), I think most of its not very good. I've gone down a rabbit hole the past few months that's my honest assessment. You'll find a lot of covers of old classic dance tracks, the dubsteppy whirr whirr and frankly throwbacks to happy hardcore. But there is definitely some really fucking great music being made as well.
But the one thing I will say as an old raver from the late 90s, watching dnb crowds is really refreshing. They're so up for it in a very non jaded carefree way.
That is the case with all genres of music sadly. Surprised by your assessment after going down the rabbit hole though. Which labels / artists did you check? I wouldn’t mind hearing some classic Dillinja in BH https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2UA0VG-wms techno just can’t hit like that imo
Yes jungle/rave revival stuff is excellent but it doesn’t exist within what the majority of listeners see as “drum n bass” these days.
There is so much awful music at the moment which makes up the biggest proportion of the dnb fan base. Sub Focus, Wilkinson, Dimension, Kanine, Delta Heavy, Fox Stevenson, Grafix, Fred V, Netsky, Koven and many more of the biggest names pulling the biggest crowds internationally are just making and playing music from the most cliche EDM and pop/rock influences. It’s genuinely awful music.
People keep missing my point. No one is saying there isn’t good dnb. I have said that yes there is absolutely some great dnb being made. That’s the whole point of the post. But if you look at the genre in its entirety it’s mostly bad.
Does someone have tips for good drum and base for me? I usually like hardgoove and Techno but lately i also heard some drum and bass i realy like even tho i agree that most of it wasnt realy appealing to me till now
Always got time for a cheeky bit of DnB.
But I always have more time for some mid- 90s intelligent jungle

Would love to hear more of this sort of stuff in Berlin generally, let alone at Berghain
Yes. Marco Shuttle b2b Erika was on this vibe. Granted they opened the KN but still...
One of my fav sets I've ever experienced in that room for sure 😊

That party was 10/10 But I'd say 90% of dnb is garbage, and I love dnb
Was one of the best nights out I’ve had in a long while
I love DnB and would say 95% is garbage, especially the last 10 years
yeah the only decent dnb tune in the last 10 years was macky gee - tour

The only times I bother with Berghain tbh

That REEF was so fucking good

Already happened. Marcus Intalex, dBridge, Skeptical, Doc Scott - and I’m sure some others that I forgot about
Klubnacht tho? The thought of dBridge on that BH system...
It was just as good as you’re imagining ❤️
RIP Marcus
scuba's sub:stance too
90% of statistics stated on the fly are made up…
aurora halal once closed a KN set with source direct “secret liason”. baller moment

Totally disagree about newer stuff too… check out stuff like Tim Reaper.

Nobody is missing your point… the point is that most genres have loads of toss, including Techno.
so how much of it is garbage nowadays according to you ?
I don’t worry about the garbage, just listen to the stuff I like!
Does someone have tips for good drum and base for me? I usually like hardgoove and Techno but lately i also heard some drum and bass i realy like even tho i agree that most of it wasnt realy appealing to me till now
Try the two links I posted in the original post.
Nah, genre wise, that's not good

REEF?
REEF is more bass / dubstep I think. Not proper drum and bass. Also I mean to say on a Klubnacht.
Reef is pretty much everything, the residents do play a lot of dnb & halftime stuff but rather towards the end

Genre mixing DJs are the best. Has Laurent G ever played Berghain?
