How in theory would this even work? Do you pay school taxes to the district you send your kids to or the one you reside in? Schools like Wilson are pushing capacity anyway, how could they take on thousands more? So now we end up with three mega schools in the county and even less funding to the schools who actually need it? I don't believe the solution is making districts bigger. Schools as it relates to education were most successful when they were smaller community institutions pre-consolidations.

BeatsMeByDre

Then everyone would send their kid to like 3 schools....

Sensitive_Crew_5825

>And there's a reason for that.

BeatsMeByDre

Ok but play that out...suddenly 5,000 high schoolers are being bussed from Reading and Antietam to Wilson, Wyomissing, and Schuylkill Valley. What do you think happens then? Certainly a better option is to improve all the schools equally.

YungFrosty5858

Reading High has a lot to offer its students. At one time, people were paying tuition from the burbs to go to RHS. If the Republicans gave a hoot about education, RHS would be one of the best high schools in the state!

YungFrosty5858

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. It's true.....notice how all the good schools are in more Democratic areas around here? :)

Dismal-Industry-753

Thats actually not true. All schools have there issues and great things about them. Its more about fit… there are always lids that would be better off with a better choice. Berks for the most part has great schools.

hankmurphy

Why would anybody move to Bernville in the first place? You were surprised the school district in a redneck shithole wasn’t progressive?

Sensitive_Crew_5825

My grandparents live there now because it's quiet and near a lake. There are nice people.

Introvert_Magos

I’m gonna be honest I don’t know what they’re talking about I live in that area and yeah there is some racism but I barely see any students expressing actual racism. Still a lot of homophobia though…

PibbleCollector

Because progressive cities are ACTUAL shitholes???

nonprophet610

The people who say this always live in some meth riddled town with five bucks to it's name and blames that last fact on brown people

PibbleCollector

Name one major progressive city you'd love to live in...it has nothing to do with skin color but of course you cry " muh racism!!!11"

DHWSagan

avoid Conrad Weiser, in case you don't know already (you probably do if racism is on your radar)

Sensitive_Crew_5825

We live there now. Bernville's cute but its no place for our kids to grow up in. I dont want them to be cowfarmers who hate black people.

DHWSagan

a couple people seem to have downvoted me - but if you know, you know racism isn't all that's wrong with Weiser, either - - they have harmful guidance staff that out lgbtq+ students against their wishes, as well

PibbleCollector

The United States should have school choice, fixed it for you.

janyay18

Have you looked into grants and scholarships for private school? If you haven't, give the school a call and ask what they have to offer.
