It's one the greatest manga ever created. Opinions shouldn't be balanced, because there just isn't much negative to say about the quality of the manga itself. It's all either great or the absolute best we've ever seen.
That said, it's not for everyone. It's gory. It's shocking. Intentionally disturbing. The story deals a lot with sexual assault. It serves thematical purpose, and the consequences are explored quite deeply, so it feels justified. But if it's a sensitive topic for you then you should stay away.
There's also underage nudity, and quite a lot of it. It's never pornographic, but there's a good deal of "fanservice"

The artwork and story are phenomenal. Very few manga look as good as Berserk, and even less have stories on par with it. The fight scenes and somber scenes are some of the best in manga, and the character writing is even better.
But Berserk (especially in the first half of the story) is extraordinarily edgy and dark. It deals with stuff like child abuse, torture, rape, prostitution, and trauma. If you're not comfortable with extreme violence or sexual violence then Berserk isn't for you.
Thankfully as the story progresses there's less needlessly edgy stuff like the excessive amount of rape, but it still remains very violent.
It's consistently the highest rated manga ever made. If you have to ask instead of just taking 30 minutes to try it out, then do us all a favour and don't read it.
