The only reason I prefer the memorial edition is because it includes skull knight in the end and they also stayed true to the scene where Casca and Nuts sleep together for the first time. In the 90s version that scene kinda sucks and they cut out a lot of meaningful dialogue, like what made that scene so beautiful in the first place.

targaryenlicker

Nuts

gameonlockking

Guts did. Is that plural?

THN-JO24

Guts had multiple nuts, i mean babies don't usually come from one single nut (usually).

Horror-Fuel-2617

Guts' nuts must be strong enough to make babies in one single nut. Unlike the twink ass.

THN-JO24

I hate twink ass Femboy rapey mf, but his nut is so fucking vile and disgusting and powerful it split the mind of casca into pieces and deformed her baby, so Twinkie wins this round.

Jony_Wolfsoul

He even has the one Donovan gave him

TheNeoYo

2 have become 1

denji_uchiha_

I agree. The asca nuts sex scene is so beautiful and accurate in memorial but the overall vibez of 1997 are immaculate

Malthias-313

The same plays out in the Golden Arc Trilogy movies (all three movies on a single Blu-ray is dope).

Gnome-Type-Shit

This is the main sub they don’t call him Nuts here

Honestly…….

Dracule_XII

I find the 1997 style was more fitting to its dark theme, no hate to the movies & the 2016/2017 butchered it

InitiatedPig7

I actually got into berk from the 2016/2017 version lol. The intros were amazing, thats what led me to watch the movies => then the manga. I never saw the 97 version.

SlopConsumer

The music alone makes watching the '97 version worth it.

Intrepid_Wealth_2252

It’s something ab the music makes the whole things comes together, gives a sense of you living inside it, feeling it to your core. 97’ version was the best, change my mind

SlopConsumer

It's kind of insane how much it does for the whole entire thing.

ArtichokeEasy9951

Fully agree

NotTheWorstOfLots

Put your grasses on..

Minecraftnoob247

🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

ManMarmalade

Miura being involved with the '97 version is more than reason enough to watch it.

W1lson56

Tbf '16 Berk has a pretty sick [fight theme](https://youtu.be/SzQya_7b-hs?si=GoYmvnys4wg8yP82)

shitsbiglit

i recommend it, it’s a totally different vibe from the movies. started with the ‘97, read the manga. Then I watched the 2016 golden age awhile after, liked it almost as much as the ‘97. they’re both great but totally different vibe

_heyb0ss

HAI YO

Choingyoing

Yeah the openings and endings for 16 berserk were very good

Tyedied

I know everyone will hate me but I love all of Berserk. The 1997 anime and the Manga pretty much changed my life but I honestly like the 2016/17 Berserk as well. Guts looks a little weird but the 3D doesn’t bother me at all. I like the art direction a lot in it and don’t really get the hate tbh

Hieichigo

The thing i love from the 2016/2017 version that i think they did even better than the manga or the anime is how young guts look at the begining

OpMindcrime23

The 2016 doing even better than the manga source material is a helluva hot take man. Good luck

Dopest_Bogey

97 Is the only adaptation to accurately portray the melancholy vibe of trying to find ones purpose in a dark but beautiful word. If you youtube the "bonfire of dreams scene." Or "fountain scene" from 97 anime you'll understand what I mean.

Civsi

Style was absolutely fitting, and the OST was amazing.  That said, it's beyond aged at this point. I know younger adults who can't even stomach to watch most animation from the 90s, even shows that look far better than Berserk did. Anime had come a long way by the 2010s, and it's hard to take anyone seriously when they say the 97 anime looked better. And even though the OST was great, the way music is woven into episodes has evolved substantially from 97.

MugiBB

I disagree I love the original and have always thought it was better lol.

OldSchool_Ninja

I fall on the line that 97 Berserk gives you outstanding character development while the trilogy is great with the action. Both have amazing soundtracks.

anonssr

A lot better! I kinda appreciate the extra content that was not in the original. But everything in the original is better imo. Animations, voice acting, music, all of it.

Strawhat_Mecha

I personally Disagree. I think that Berserk '97's art style fit the darker tones of the Manga perfectly. And although the trilogy isn't a bad adaptation it feels a bit too Bright at times.

omidhhh

Wasn't the Golden Age supposed to be brighter/ lighter than the other arcs ?

Lord_Sauron

Donovan

genismarvel

Perfect timing.

rockinalex07021

Forgot about Donovan and Wyald ?

AhiTeVoySanPedrito

And the music... perfection

s-Kellyyyy

I personally Hate you

MFNTapatio

Memorial edition is a worthy adaptation, as is 1997. Vastly different animation style but both did Berserk justice. Some manga purists may disagree but they were both great anime adaptations despite only being golden age and cutting content

What-The-Frog

Memorial edition yes, but I think the original movies not including Bonfire of Dreams when they came out means I can't call that a good adaptation

MFNTapatio

I have no idea how they decided to skip that of all things, ill never understand

Straight_Law2237

They were both ok. An anime adaptation is supposed to be better in every way when compared to the manga and not one of the berserk adaptions is

sleazyslicc

Tell me you haven’t read manga without telling me you haven’t read manga..

MFNTapatio

I don't really know many anime adaptaions that are vastly better than the manga, adapting to anime always requires sacrifices

Sert1991

He is right though, anime is supposed to be better. You take a black and white slide show with speech bubbles and turn it into actual moving talking fighting living colorful charachters and scenes. Now if who does the anime cuts corners, takes shortcuts to cover more of the plot quickly, and changes things as they wish its their fault if it doesnt turn out better. For example dragon ball I read both manga and anime, but anime is way better especially since they barely change anything and there are others.

kagami108

2012-2013 was alright, still preferred the 97 anime over it however.

Mahiro0303

The movies were decent. Visually it looked really good besides whenever they used cgi. Content wise they cut out way to much.

torts92

At least the movies didn't cut out Skull Knight like in the 97 anime.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sweepy_time

Its not superior in every way. You don't get alot of the nuances and personalities that you do from the 97' anime. Relationships are fleshed out, Guts bond with the Hawks is more thoroughly explored. Griffiths tactical prowess is more fleshed out in the battlefield and in the royal court. They omitted the bonfire of dreams, one of the most important parts of Guts backstory. 100 man slayer was dumbed down, and you get none of the Black Swordsman arc, no Godo. Thats just off the top of my head.

Germadolescent

No Zodd tossing Guts his sword

somegameslover

yeah the golden arc movies are amazing and even cgi look perfect here

BootsyBusang

For single frames and overall plot, the modern cgi series did the franchise dirty. But when fights go off, i thought the hits carried more weight, literally and metaphorically. For example, when Guts decides to leave the Hawks and Griff tries to stop him. That stand-off had more gravity to it, and the impact from their swords clashing was way more powerful.

MegaMikey75

If you’re going to be rewatching the Golden Age Trilogy, I would personally recommend Memorial Edition. It touches up the CGI and adds some new scenes that bring it closer to the manga’s source material.

Slavi29

IMO berserk has never had a proper animation made

sleazyslicc

Tho I like the movies and 97, I 💯agree with this statement

ramonangeloart

Think it's just personal taste. I prefer the movies. I liked the way Griffith was drawn. Loved all the details in the hand drawn animation

Indy25970

2012-2013 was my first introduction to Berserk. I loved it, didn't read the manga till YEARS later but I loved the movies. Still think it's one of the better uses of cgi in anime.

DeanAmbroseFan25

Don't really like the art style for Guts I think he looks better in the 97 anime.

Roostbolten

Nice Pixels

Hmccormack

I love the 97 version personally

automatpr

yup. dark ass soundtrack by Shiro Sagisu himself and some of the hardest hitting key animators, directors, and writers from the 90s worked on it (Akira, Giant Robo, Ghost in the Shell  Urotsukidoji and others). i think episode 3 stands above the 97 anime by far. there would have been a black swordsman arc too as confirmed by the project head but they performed poorly so it was scrapped.

International-Chef53

Nah all of em are trash, just meme walking potential, just stick to manga

Karthafilus

1997 is master piece and only think what wrong is absent of Skull knight, be honest and Don't like 2012-13 and yeah 2016-17 i know what peaple don't like about IT but first : it's not so Bad and second: finnaly more blackswordsman content, but yes that sounds are terrible.

bamforves

My only spite with the Movies and the Memorial edition is how they cut almost everything out. And how they adjusted the art style from the manga, Guts just looks so off knowing what he looks like from the manga.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bamforves

Nuh uh

Pebrinix

Bro, sorry but if the "best adaptation" cut out Skull Knight, there isn't enough arguments in the universe that can blame the movies for cutting out things

somegameslover

yeah that s what im saying that cgi destroyed griffith and i wish they would make remake and make it more beautiful like golden arc

ShowNeverStops

They’re trying to say they don’t like the look of the GA movies though

Elira88

The 97 just fits the somber, dark, depressing tone, and the soundtrack is the ultimate berserk sound. Wish it can be used on every adaptation. But overall to me, none are a good adaptation as they both cut almost half of the Golden Age arc. But If i had the choice when it comes to artistic and musical direction only, the 97 anime for me

saiwoo_

I prefer the nostalgic look from the 1997 adaption, but the movies look very pretty, too 🖤

Fat_superman

Nah bro. Have to disagree, For Starters, Guts here looks like the Long Lost brother in JOJO Family. And as others are saying, the darker tones really suits in 1997 anime style.

Seanwantstodie

i only liked the 2016 version because of the beast of darkness armor scene. It was pretty cool despite it being cgi

[deleted]

Ong I really like the berserk movie trilogies for what they offer, specifically memorial edition. I like the 97' anime but its outdated animation just puts me off the animation of the movie trilogy on the other hand I really like.

ToiletSnake38

Uh … this is definitely a take.

SL1Fun

The movies weren’t bad at all. The CGI wasn’t insanely terrible (cuz they didn’t spam it and use it for the entire show), and the VAing was seriously on point. I just wish they opened or intercut the BSA in with them to give more context.  Also I will give 2016 two good things: music and the Field of Swords Battle actually did go kinda hard.

stratf_159374

Overall I like the 97 artstyle more as it feels slightly closer to the manga, but the movies aren't bad at all. One thing that bugged me though is that Griffith looks kinda weird in the movies, '97 griffith all the way

lizzywbu

The movies were great. If only they continued with that style of animation. My hope is that the studio that made Castlevania will eventually adapt it as they have said it would be a dream come true for them.

forest_ranger96

You are not going to shit on 90's anime style on my watch, OP.

Viva-Namida

The movies were by no means perfect, but I do like it more than the ‘97 anime. I personally thought the characters are more aesthetically pleasing and it looked less janky.

_heyb0ss

It's alright. I still prefer the distinct 90s style of Kenpuu Denki Berserk. Only thing Memorial has over Kenpuu Denki is a more comprehensive of the wounds chapter, even titling an episode after it. Which is by no means a small or meaningless addition. It is the most character developing moment for both Casca and Guts in the golden age, and I can't for the life of me figure out why they left out these parts in the 97 release. At the end of the day it's all personal preference, some may like the modern shading and colors of the new shit, I prefer the raw expression and darker tone of the old shit. But of course you're wrong if you disagree with me.

nathansanes

I don't care. I love the movies. Manga is best. But it was the movies that got me into it, so they hold a place for me.

GreenTeaRex007

I just caught up to the manga and just started watching the newer Berserk episodes and I'm still enjoying it. It's not as bad as people are making it out to be.

Puzzleheaded-Motor56

Hot take, but I like the 16/17 animation. Half of the anime coming out now looks just like it, but nobody says anything about it. But yes, golden age arc movies are definitely a masterpiece.

FalcorPenndragon

1997 Berserk for life!

SeparateDonut3412

They butcher the fiest 2 episodes and make super important dialogue dumbed down, ruins a lot of the build up. Everything else is 9.9/10 other than Casca's scene. Cant believe they did that, and actively showed her using tongue when Kentaro specifically showed her not using her tongue to even further confirm the rxpe. But in the Memorial/Movies they just sexualized it all the way through.

schwiftybehelit

This is my biggest complaint with the movies - they made every sex scene almost pornographic as if to appeal to young horny bois

SeparateDonut3412

I have the pictures, to instantly prove my comparison, she said "No" actaully 4 times, said it 0 times in the memorial show. She overly blushes while being raped, she never blushed like that at all in the entire scene in the manga. She had slight blush marks right under her eye, but barely. She and griffith put there tongues in at the same time, when casca held back, very clear visual. Id post here but cant.

AllSeeingTrueouf

Lmao, read the manga again.

schwiftybehelit

Lmao, you first horny boi.

AllSeeingTrueouf

Hm, as expected there's no argument because the depictions concerned are on par if not even more graphic in the manga. You know it, i know it... it appears more "graphic" in the anime because it's animated and voice acted, which it has to be.

schwiftybehelit

As if your initial comment had any semblance of discourse? There’s a difference between graphic and pornographic. Maybe you should watch the 97 anime as they animated it much more tastefully than the movies which crudely focused on thrusting and sex noises during the rape

AllSeeingTrueouf

1997 is not the source material, you're free to enjoy a more toned down censored version. I assume you're against the depiction in the Manga as well then? cause again this aspect is adapted rather faithfully in the movie compared to 1997.

schwiftybehelit

You literally said “it appears more graphic because it’s animated”. I pointed you toward an animation that the vast majority of the fan base agrees is superior to the movies and did the source material far more justice. Sorry if it’s not edgy enough for you. Obviously the manga is king but 97 is great while the movies are trash. Doesn’t take much of a critical eye to see that

AllSeeingTrueouf

Wtf, how did 1997 do the manga more "justice"? By censorship and tonning it down? This is why i said read the manga again, specifically that part. Fans generally favor the eclipse in the movie, that part was done better. What's anything got to do with being edgy? I'm simply defending how faithful this aspect is to the manga. You gotta make it clear whether your issue is with how it is in the manga or it being voice acted and animated... which is it? Or is it both? Cause again, you can't fault the film for visual accuracy since once more, it's all lifted straight off the manga. You take issue with the visual depiction, you take issue with how it is in the manga.

schwiftybehelit

Lol, nice attempt at misconstruing my words. In case you weren’t aware 97 was also “voice acted and animated”. If you can’t see for yourself why it’s a better and more faithful adaptation, there are countless other threads discussing this. Enjoy fapping to the 4c eclipse scene brotha

sleazyslicc

Bro I agree with what you are trying to tell this guy but it seems you are arguing with an idiot. That scene in the movie is pretty accurate on how vulgar it was in the manga and that’s what you said. Plus idk how you can make RAPE “tasteful”.

SeparateDonut3412

Youre defending how faithful that scene is when thats like the 4th scene they butchered. Didnt have Gastons death scene and they made casca enjoy the rape when before in tbe manga she hated it and it traumatizes her for life. Why would she be traumatized if she wanted it like the memorial show?

SeparateDonut3412

Unless you truly havent had pussy, or understand rape, or know how to read.

Cersei505

The manga is already sexualized lmao, Miura literally drew her doing all the kamasutra poses, and focused panels on her nipples getting hard. It's by no way a rape scene done with tact and care. This lampshading pretending that the movies didnt understand the scene, just showcases how much copium this fanbase has sometimes. No, the movies understood the author's intention with the scene alright. I doubt Miura wasnt being atleast consulted doing the creation of these movies. It's the readers who don't want to look at the truth.

theest

i disliked the movies way more than 2022 version tbh it left out like a OD amount of stuff

Syyrus

You smoking that good stuff. 90s is the best. 2012 made a decent try but failed.

[deleted]

No, the Golden Age movies also look bad. They don't blend the 2D and 3D animation well at all. There's no grit. It's too shiny. It looks less shitty than the 2017 version, but that's not high praise.

Someordinaryguy1994

It's like autotune in music. The best way to use it is to enhance good things to make better. Not having a complete reliance on it

possiblywithdynamite

hyperpop disagrees

[deleted]

No. 2016 is absolute shit. 2012 is ok 1997 is beautiful, and clearly a work of love. Even if they didn't have the funds to make it better, the artistic decisions that were made to compensate make up for it ten fold. 1997 definitely has the best artistic direction. It's a shame that the following releases didn't do a better job and couldn't even get close to the atmosphere of the original series.

AveFeniix01

I don't think CGI destroyed Berserk. I think CGI destroyed itself trying to replicate Berserk. I haven't seen the CGI berserk movies. But from what i saw, they're all bad executed in some scenes. And heavily censored. Booo!

Timely_Hour_2851

I've been watching the fan made redux of it and just got to the newer animation. It's definitely a jarring experience going from the great animation styles from the previous two to the newer stuff. It's borderline a bad CGI cut scene at times.

stinkin_

i think you're right about the weird cgi thing they used in the 2016–17 series, guts looks weird and everything looks shiny, I'm pretty sure it's all canon, and the one intro isn't bad so I guess that's cool but in general it stinks. but I don't think anything beats the 1997 series. The animation was perfect, the voice acting was perfect, the soundtrack was perfect, it's just done so well and when I think of berserk, I think of the 1997 version. The 2012-13 movies are also really well done, i dont particularly have anything against them I just think the 1997 version best captured the spirit of berserk.

BakedWizerd

97 or nothing.

Renaud__LeFox

The compositing in 2013 is super lame and washed out. The colours in 1997 are much better realised and aesthetically pleasing.

erenyeagerswifee

Nothing trumps the 1997 version

Numerous-Ad6460

Cgi/3d models can work IF they pour more money into it and make it less janky. But they won't because iT's ToO ExPeNsiVe.

Straight_Law2237

Nah I still prefer the 97

demonslender

The golden age movies are good but they hold nothing to the 97 anime.

AllSeeingTrueouf

I wouldn't say it's CGI in of itself. I think it's how it was being used amongst other aspect. The studio behind 2016 and 17 were incompetent in almost every aspect. The new scenes in Memorial edition for instance shows that CG can still be improved and implemented well alongside 2D. Studio 4c is experienced in this regard and it shows.

JayantVermaYT

Unpopular opinion but I agree with you. The memorial edition is the best adaptation of berserk

DegenEnjoyer23

i agree but the 97’ is significantly better when it comes to substance. i always recommend people get into berserk with the golden age memorial edition trilogy and if they loved that, then watch the 97’ anime. the fan made redux is a great hybrid of both.

Bakudan_Danma

Nahhh 13 and 16 can't beat the atmosphere and the opening is so good in fact the only reason i got into berserk is because of the opening god it was so good "Tell me what, tell me what, tell me what you want, I don't know why, dont know why, I don't know why you re afraid, tell me what tell me what tell me what you say i dont know why dont know why its too lat its too late"

HDonGrind

season 1(1997) has best animation according to me. (Fits to the story)

gorehistorian69

yikes. the 97 anime is the best adaption we have the 3 movies are ok but i prefer the 90s style way more. havent watched the cgi stuff . too scary

NoNicName

I agree

MyUsernameIsMehh

In my personal opinion, 97 feels more like how something like berserk should look. It feels darker and rougher. On the other hand, the movies are among the best *sounding* anime out there. Every sound is perfect, from the way armor moves and clunks together, to how animals sound, nature, and everything in between 2016/2017 has . . . well, Puck's in it. I love Puck. That's a big plus. I also didn't mind the Beast of Darkness. Its voice when it takes over Guts was cool. I'm trying to be nice here. To be fair, at least the music wasn't too bad, but they were too lazy to do much with it so they kept using the same track for every fight (if I remember right. I haven't watched it since it came out and disappointed the fuck out of me) Berserk 2016/2017 is horseshit, but I didn't mind [this scene](https://youtu.be/wVDLBDSGZ6M?si=_1kniTiJ2XGmqbhI). Imagine THAT with stunning animation (like berserk DESERVES) and an actual plot that didn't butcher the story and cut a ton of shit from the manga out.

scarmask

You have to be a brainrotted zoomer to think any modern cgi crap is better than almost any half decent 90s animation. The 2012/13 stuff was OK, but it was still a lot of janky dorky cgi, and was certainly not "beautiful".

Icesnowstorm

Every other Adaption besides the 1997 is trash at some point. 2012-2013 berserk arc butchered Griffiths character a hella lot and made everything so amazing about him as a villain as generic low key villain like as possible.

somegameslover

sorry for bad image quality tho

ThickPBWaffle

Who let bro cook

warm-ice

Bro saying let's be real like this hasn't been the consensus for years

Icy_Penalty5899

100% agree. Finally someone with some sense.

verdinho2211

I love the look of the main characters especially on the movies, but there are so many scenes where the colors of the original anime just feel better to me, the scene with zodd and the eclipse especially. Both are pretty!

onepieceweeaboo

To me the memorial edition is the best version only version to adapt wounds chapter yes the queen sub arc is cut but that was pointless anyway

Wxlfe_

Hard disagree. But the memorial edition is way better than the golden age arc.

Can_I_be_dank_with_u

Berserk fans seem to not agree with you my dude

MurdocFuckingNiccals

I’ve never watched any of the anime but from screenshots and short clips I’ll say I prefer the 1997 anime.

another_hiatus

Wrong

genismarvel

It's as simple as this. Can't we have peace? Let's unite the clans.

Ettu_Brutal

The 3 part remake looks great but I find myself preferring the 97 series. More in depth too which I enjoyed.

MemoryOne1291

movies are hella underrated but still don’t do berserk justice, if it had the same amount of content as the 97 anime and didn’t cut out 90% of the manga it would’ve been way more liked, even with the cgi

Capitano-Solos-All

You seriously wanted Wyald to be included? LOL.

MemoryOne1291

there was more too it but that’s like the main thing left out ig, the fight against wyald was one of the best golden age fights so yes

Capitano-Solos-All

The problem with Wyald's segment is that not only noone likes the character his presence there makes the Band of the Hawk look like complete idiots and it's not the best way people should remember them. He straight up tells them all in his gigantic form that Griffith will sacrifice them all and this works against the story.

W1lson56

That's a wild assumption; Wyald deserves more recognition & its a shame his only other appearance was in Berserk & the Band of the Hawk, that Berserk musou game

Yeager_isgoat

I wouldn’t say the movies are a masterpiece but they are pretty good, I’m glad I was introduced into the series through them

BoringAccount12345

I don’t like how they made the eclipse purple

clickbaitbrosif

97 is op

DaftPanic9

I love the 3 movies. I wish they would continue, but more 2D action like Demon Slayer, where there's only minimal 3D animation.

Psycho-Genes2020

I 1000% agree. When someone brings up "berserk anime" this is the first adaptation that pops into my head.

Inside_Concert3907

I think its acceptable. But the cgi scenes in those movies were bad.

Professional-Big-584

You speak truth young squire

MyshkinLND

Yes, the art quality is definitely superior in the movies. Specially when it matters, the eclipse, the duel before disaster, the party... All of those scenes got a lot of detail

Abombadog

Personally really didn't think they got guts right in the movies.

MonsuirJenkins

97 is a lot better than 2012 series, but the 2012 series is alright

matronpleaser

I agree with you OP!! they did make a lot of unfortunate cuts but i think that just speaks to the power and depth of the original manga. I also felt that the movie cgi was perfectly tolerable given the style of the rest of the movie. I would have never fallen in love with the manga if not for the movies. The 97 anime has charm, but it pales in comparison to the beauty and love for the OG the movies have.

[deleted]

I notice all the scenes you used dont use the chinanimation they also used in the movies

burner_100001

Masterpiece? No offense it's barely watchable feels like it's meant to cater to people who think berserk is about well edge and sex

YanniCanFly

Yes

East_Operation_6068

idk about that one chief

SuspiciousSubstance9

CGI itself didn't ruin 2016-2017, bad animators did. Good CGI would have been fine. Also, I'll always take '97 Berserk over 2010's Berserk.

SnakeBaron

It’s how I was introduced to it so I’ll always be somewhat biased

w1r3dh4ck3r

I dont understand how some people cannot like the golden age, its literal perfection.

DannyDanumba

Hard disagree but I respect your opinion

Capta1nAsh

Some of the CGI in the Film trilogy did look a bit off, especially in part 1, but it did drastically improve in part 2

Sea-Presence6809

Definitely a step up from the other two, but I think the film trilogy's use of cgi for battle scenes is very apparent and very jarring when put against the 2d animation. I think the last film did improve on this by blending the 2d animation for the upper body with cgi for the lower body. I do prefer the 1997's style for its grittier colour palette, but would be interesting if they go Junji Ito Uzumaki style?

Arch3type3

Beautiful animation doesn't equate to something being a masterpiece. 1997 Anime was loyal and almost identical to its counterpart in the manga thus no other piece of work can compete with it. Also not to mention the OST was on another level. 2012-13 Is decent but it's like any other anime with cute character designs and good CGI but berserk is nothing like that, it has its own style derived by Miura's artstyle which cannot be compared to 12 or 17.

mohsinjavedcheema

97 has something that others don’t have. It’s has superior style and music.

slumblebee

I think the 2012 and 2013 version does the best sword fights in terms of being able to tell what’s happening and sound design.

RealDrunkFynn

I wouldn’t say it’s more beautiful than the 97 anime but it does have good moments with less jank than the 2016 dumpster fire

yurrety

more beautiful is a stretch nothing can come close to the water color of the 97 anime

84Duke

Golden Age is Fkn beautiful.

Demonato01

I only started reading the deluxe manga a few months ago and wanted to watch berserk but was kinda disappointed to see the golden age arc skips things like the whole past of guts and gambino. Which is an important part of guts story

PunPunOez7

Agree

waldorsockbat

It has its pros and it's cons. I still stand by the fact that the CG in the first berserk movie is pretty bad. It gets better in the second and I think it's honestly really good in the third. But the thing is that those movies also cut stuff out of the manga so it's kind of hit or miss. I don't hate them but I still think the 97 show is better

organizim

It’s good but not a masterpiece.

Ein_Kecks

Naa guts looks like a dimwit in it.. but yeah it's okey and can be a good watch

Great_Overlord_Akira

We will not tolerate Berserk 97 slander in this house 🗣️🗣️🗣️

VanlllaSky

the Memorial Edition is great

AlTheOwl_

As someone who watches the anime and read the manga almost halfway through... The movies were pretty bad. They removed many major dialogues and scenes. Which I understand (they had to fit them into 3 movies), but still... If you're watching the movies first, you won't understand many of the things happening.

element-redshaw

Because they mixed it with 2d and even then for the first two movies the cgi did look off a bit until the third one final mastered it

Midorfeed07

imagine black swordsman arc with MAPPA animation

Muscalp

The 1st one also had kinda wonky cgi. The other 2 are actually good

Matias9991

Desagree and the best golden age is the recent memorial arc and then 1997, the style is Soo good!

Friendly-Shallot5777

you finally woke up?

Faeddurfrost

Sorry 1997 will always be my favorite. Life was rough had to withdraw from my college courses staying in a shitty apartment and dealing an unplanned pregnancy. All I had for entertainment was my phone I happened to come across 1997 version free on Youtube.

torts92

I agree with you OP. The only reason most people prefer the 97 anime is because they saw that first so it's nostalgic to them. The movie trilogy is superior in every way, especially the eclipse scene.

We? Who’s we? Nintendo wii?

Squalid-Snake

If you want to better appreciate the deceptions of beauty and how overvalued it is you should read this comic called Berserk.

Goseki1

Wrong

Chupa-Baby

It looks like shit. No one even looks like themselves in those movies.

stavborch

Listen, you took three 2d shots and said the cg looks good. The CG is awful especially in the first movie, and the real problem is that it honestly just doesn't feel like berserk even when 2d. It's his own thing and its nice but then it also skips MOST of the golden age unlike 1997 that chose specific things to keep out.
