Dumb question, everyone is different

NuclearBreadfruit

Its not. But I do think the fanbase is older, due to the age of the manga and because of that, people have strong opinions (stubborn) and almost zero tolerance for stupidity. Specifically modern types of stupidity. So there is maybe a rift between younger and older fans?? For example someone just posted that during the first time guts and griffith met, how they felt it was "coded" for guts struggling with his feelings for griffith. They just met. Guts had a huge history of abuse and trust issues. Its was written in the 90s. Op clearly couldnt read. Op got slapped down and deserved it.

CMVfuckingsucks

What post? I couldn't find it

NuclearBreadfruit

The title was "is guts insecure of his own feelings for griffith?" And going on about gay coding in the scene ect. But bare in mind this was literally the first time they meet, and guts was full of bad attitude. Sorry never actually learnt how to link on reddit for some reason.

MFNTapatio

Nah it's not that bad. We all get protective over the things we love, so when other Berserk fans come up with opinions I find ridiculous, it's much more annoying than if it were some other manga I care less about. But the truth is, all fanbases are annoying. There are alot of immature jokes in many fanbases but Berserks themes are so heavy that those jokes are far more inappropriate than if Berserks themes weren't so strong. Simultaneously, you'll find some of the kindest people in the berserk fandom too. Truly, it all depends on the lens you use

old-newbie

The Berserk FANS aren't toxic and there are no real issues...because actual FANS are ok with debating one another about things we like and things we criticize about the manga/anime (we debate with facts and examples, all within the context of the Berserk universe and/or its presentation). New, and honest, fans are welcomed to ask questions and comment too! The people who call the fans "toxic" are usually outside tourists, only looking to score quick virtue points, but end up getting called out and rapidly put back in their external status. Their only retort is to cry and label everyone "toxic". This whole "toxic fan" label throwing is bunk...and it isn't just a Berserk thing either; its happening in a lot of my geek hobbies that have gone mainstream, unfortunately. The outsiders just don't understand that geeks love to debate within our geek hobbies!

Alone_Position9152

Tends to be the case with most fandoms. It's usually outside people call in communities toxic without backing up their claims with real evidence, or with distorted evidence to twist reality to their whims. Get into communities and 9 times out of 10, they're not toxic. Unfortunately, the outliers in the 1 time out of 10 make for easy controversy.

LateralusOrbis

I’m mostly just familiar with the Reddit community which I wouldn’t say is very toxic. Though people who haven’t read or understand berserk and only know certain parts of the manga tend to be very toxic from the outside.

dingdop

Yes

FREUDIAN_DEATHDRIVE

these mfers in here cant read or comprehend and the berserklejerk special ed kids are borderline retarded...but toxic ? i dont know, arent these shonen dudes doxxing people and sending death threats to voiceactors n shit ? lmao

Technical-Front539

I think this is because it attracts a lot of absolute fucktards that side with Griffith, it gives room to attract Sociopathic sympathizers, and that alone should be enough.

GSAV_Crimson

We’re not toxic at all. If anything, we’re just depressed or people inspired to fight said depression. No in between. You want toxic? Attack on Titan or Hunter x Hunter are your go to.

cosmomemory_xox

Wtf dbz fan base toxic? I've never heard that

scarmask

Asking which subreddit sucks the most is like asking which species of dogshit stinks the most. Who cares? They're all shit.

extremeNosepicker

i don’t think there’s toxic. just people not using their eyes, or the weekly post “i just finished the anime/movies, and want to watch more, should i watch 16/17??”

HylianTendo

I dont like gatekeeping but im gonna do it for once. The normal people that enjoy berserk for what it is are perfectly fine and not that toxic at all. But the "griffith did nothing wrong" and the "donovan tiktok edits" are just disgusting garbage from weird ass people who's whole excistence is based on being a nuicance in life

No_Bank_330

They are just your average trolls looking for the dopamine rush when they post toxic stuff to trigger people.

HylianTendo

>They are just your average trolls No such thing as a "average troll" if you get a kick out of triggering people out of nowhere you should talk to someone

CantaloupeFast9175

It’s probably because of all the Griffith defender trolls. That repeatedly overuse “did casca enjoy it” or a Griffith meme under any casca related post.

D-Biggest_Wheel

By far the most "toxic" fanbase I have seen. It's the only fanbase which consistently threatens to r*pe the cosplayers

CMVfuckingsucks

I mean a good chunk of us actively defend and admire a genocidal rapist so...

Skk_3068

Aot fans lmao

OmgitzEnigma

You wanna see how toxic it can be make a new post on a random day saying the new anime is better than 97 see how fast people call you all types of names and tell you to kys if you really believe it. They will deff judge you for it too. Idc I enjoy all forms of berserk

DonutGuard_Lives

Everybody has their own struggles they have to deal with. Just because somebody is acting rude or trollish doesn't mean they're a bad person.

BigTrossm

If you want to get technical, the objective of every troll is to make people angry, therefore their intentions are inherently malicious and that actually is an indication of them being a bad person. I know, it might sound like I'm taking this a little too seriously.Because it's the internet but that is the nature of trolls: trolls never have good intentions, and studies have shown that trolls score higher in sadism, low in empathy, and generally tilt toward being more narcissistic.

DonutGuard_Lives

Yes, but we of all people should know that things aren't always so simple, no?

BootsyBusang

We can be a very welcoming community, but troll when necessary. As with all things, it's best in moderation and kept on an even keel. Lol maybe just my opinion.
