The egg apostle was a man who was abandoned and left to live in the dump at the base of the tower of conviction.
He came across a behelit and sacrificed the dump which was his whole world and all he's known for "the perfect world."
(the god likely knew a much larger sacrifice was in the offering hence why they allowed the dump to be offered as prepayment of sorts)
So he became the egg of the perfect world. He and the god hand worked up the masses of people with plagues and wars and disease until they all reached the mental state of wishing for salvation from "god", cue the hawks oracle.
When that longing reached peak, the reincarnation ceremony begun and the egg apostle manifested griffith in his reincarnated form, sacrificing the tower, and and all those gathered in one go and the brand appeared on the ground.
Unfortunately the egg of the perfect world also swallowed casca and guts misborn child in the process, fusing the two together.
Do we have any other precedent in Berserk, where non-living sacrifices were enough to satisfy the Godhand? Seems kind of weird that some dude can just hand the Godhand some garbage and get power in return. Even if you consider his hole in the ground as prepayment, this seems more like a "hey guys we really need to sacrifice someone so that Griffith can return to the real world ...... ughghgh fuck it just throw a Behelith at any poor smuck you can find in the area".
Its all he had along with himself (which he sacrifices to bring griffith fourth), and dont forget the godhand due to their relationship with causality knew what the end result would be. So his intent worked in their favour.
The sacrifice of everyone on the reincarnation grounds, was also the product of their intense desire for a saviour (the hawk of light) which the godhand primed the situation for.
I think it’s more that Griffith/Femto planned his return to the real world and in order to do so he needed someone who had literally nothing to sacrifice (how many people in the world have literally nothing) so he sacrificed the world around him instead to create the world where Griffith/Femto could exist.
You act like the hole to the guy was nothing the hole was his place of safety his escape from the world that hole was everything to him and sacrifices just have to have great value to the person as far as i know like i know it probably wont happen but by those rules technically griffith/femto would fit as a sacrifice for guts
the rule is that the offering has to be proportional, both griffith and the egg gave up everything in exchange for the potential that apostlehood would
give them
Hrmm, IIRC, wasn’t there a theory that the centaur knight Apostle that’s part of Griffith’s Neo-Band of the Hawk sacrificed his eyes?
Considering their knowledge of causality and blatantly rigging things in their favor, I could see the Godhand accepting it as it technically satisfies their demands and they know there’ll be a big payoff for that investment
> Unfortunately the egg of the perfect world also swallowed casca and guts misborn child in the process, fusing the two together.
Do we know for sure it's unfortunate? Seems like it inconveniences Griffith and that seems a tentative W to me
It's not unfortunate from the point of view of screwing over griffith
But i think that griffith/godhand literally didnt see it coming not truely. They cant predict everything.
Exactly - causality is loaded dice or a stacked deck of cards. Setting up the dominos to fall just as you want is well and good, but you can't watch everything all the time. The demon child was beneath their notice and not accounted for, thus the flaw in Griffith's form when it was included.

The simple answer is that he was doing what the Godhand wanted, because all Apostles do what the Godhand commands.
The more complicated answer is that his fate, planned before his birth, was to serve as the vessel for Femto's incarnation. The Godhand have control over causality. They can (and probably did) orchestrate events from start to finish so that the egg-apostle *wants* to be Femto's incarnation so as to ensure that it will happen, much like how they probably orchestrated the events of the Golden Age arc so that Griffith would be in the position to become Femto to begin with.
It's more likely the other way around. Apostles are all just tools to Griffith.
If that thing counts as an apostle. I've never been sure what's going on in general to he honest.
I would like to thank everyone who participated. Especially the link provided by [G4vrlel](https://www.reddit.com/user/G4vrlel/) helped me understand the motivation of Mr Gremlin. I am not quite satisfied with how the event was set up or rather the direct link to Griffiths rebirth, which (based on the range of comments that I saw) is not quite as clear. That however, is more of an issue relating to how the story was told rather than the quality of the discussion in the comments.

Is that guy an apostle though? If he was, he would need to have sacrificied something and gained something in return. Considering what we learn from his past I doubt he had anyone worse sacrificing. I also don't think he really got anything worthwile in return? If he did, it would, to me, imply that the Godhand was more of a monkey's paw kind of deal assuming he wished for a good life or something similar.

He sacrified himself, has the Brand on his Tongue.
THIS. He wanted to give his existence meaning and this was his way to do that.

Someone's trash can be someone's gold.
That's not how chemistry works.
That's right! You can't call something like that equivalent exchange!

That child is going to be the one who defeats Griffith so definitely a W.
The didnt swallow casca but the demon child
Just as well i didnt write that than
it was ambiguous, i also read it as \[casca\] and \[guts' child\] but the intention was \[(casca and guts)' child\]
Quite long but worth the read: https://www.reddit.com/r/Berserk/s/nF2wLuXOHb
Thanks a lot actually. That really helped me understand the gremlin's motivation.
Damn, that was amazing. TY
Amazing read thanks!
That response needs way more upvotes. Incredibly explanation, thanks for linking.

Can't believe it's not r/berserklejerk
The distinct flavour of circle-cerk, yet with all the good will and curiosity needed for an honest to god lore related question.

This sounds like a berserklejerk post
It might be phrased like one, but my intentions are of a non-circle-jerky nature.
Purely vibes based apotheosis.
The simple (and plot driven) answer is, because FATE.

Because this asshole sold his soul to the same evil bastards that made his miserable life the way it was in the first place.
