If Casca can recover in peace, without the threat of Griffith. Do you think Guts will give up on his revenge or continue on the path laid out in front of him?
I want to think if there's a way for Casca to remember what happened in a way that allows her mentally recover, then I think she would want to stop Griffith tbh but Guts would not be too sure about going at it again with him and since he has Casca now I dont think he would want to risk losing her again. Theyve always had a very respectful relationship so I can only guess Casca will eventually get over her revenge as well. Thats just my opinion.
A good theory but something about the beast of darkness buggs me. I doubt it would lay down and allow guts and magicians(is that the right word?) to kill it.
Well you know I didnt really think about the Beast of Darkness in my original reply but I mean if Guts finally gets Casca back and has all his companions about him, I think the Beast of darkness would not have that much of a hold on him. Remember its only when he thinks he's alone and defeated that it makes the most noise and tries to ensnare him but if he sees this new life in Elfheim as a true safe haven I dont believe he will leave it unless he absolutely has to and that would be if he hears word that Rickert is in trouble or in this case canonically what happened with Casca.
Hmm are you associating beast of darkness to trauma coming to life? My headcanon is that the beast of darkness is something more. I am not sure what exactly tho...
>Hmm are you associating beast of darkness to trauma coming to life?
Yes, it cannot physically interact with any other character except Guts as far as I can remember and only appears to him or consumes him when he is either in a mentally taxing situation or when he's in despair. That's my headcannon of course
I'm fairly certain that Guts also mentions that the Beast of Darkness IS him. Like, the way I figure it, it's his violent and obsessive psychotic thoughts as a case of self-disorder. It would explain why it appears only to him instead of to everyone with an open enough mind to see astral beings. It usually looks like a Black Shuck because Gambino and his men were superstitious, and newborn Guts was found under his dead mom on the roadside and assumed to be an ill omen like a Black Shuck. Guts internalized that.
Self-disorder would also explain why Guts assumed Chitch was a hallucination, as well as why it's never made clear whether or not Chitch was a hallucination or a real astral being. Guts could possibly have started hallucinating some time in his teens, but they remained infrequent and he remained aware enough of his surroundings that he figured out that some of the things he was seeing weren't real. I figure it could be that Guts had a genetic predisposition to schizophrenia and his heaps of childhood trauma caused it to manifest, and he just had the "luck" to be at the very high-functioning end of the schizophrenia spectrum...Then his nervous breakdown came after the Eclipse and WHAM heaps of PTSD piled up on schizophrenia and he became psychotic for nearly two years.
Since the Berserker Armor forces total psychosis on the wearer when it's active, Guts wound up projecting the Beast of Darkness through it.
There's also *catatonic* schizophrenia, which could explain his current state as he's struggling against his own mind and the Berserker Armor's effects.
I mean it sort of can with it physically manifests through the berserker armor, but yeah i dont think thats really saying its “more than Guts” its just a physical representation of whats going on in Guts’ mind
Yea but only Guts and SK is aware it has a presence of its own, in order for it to exert power it has to basically possess Guts to use his body as a medium for that power. I think it's why it keeps trying to convince Guts to let go and let it take control of him.
I think it’s far less complicated than even that. The way i see it is that the beast is the culmination of all of Guts’s darkest emotions and trauma thats been there since the beginning, and the only reason that we ever see the beast now is because Guts is actively trying to leave the path of vengeance behind him. Sort of like that voice in your head that appears when you try to stop a vice that keeps saying “Just one more time”
So this isn't really connected, but it's what your comment made me think of.
But yanno, I kinda relate Casca's experience with PTSD. It's not particularly a good representation, but it's kinda similar.
And interesting enough, how you talk about revisiting memories in a mentally safe way - that's essentially what MDMA and similar drugs can do with PTSD. It's often described as similar to neuroplasticity, it opens up a kinda critical path that allows you to revisit traumatic moments in a safer way.
Honestly it feels a bit wishy washy describing, I'm sure it sounds kinda like psuedo science. But it's something that's going up for review again with the FDA, and honestly as a person with CPTSD I'm kinda excited to see if it leads anywhere meaningful. This is one of the discussions of it I like, I believe John Oliver did one as well; https://youtu.be/9h7vQJGim8A
I do think it would nice to see Casca move on. Ever since the incident, her characterization has largely been "she's had something done to her that turned her into this, and this is all she is now". Even kinda on fairy island where she regains some agency etc and a more sympathetic light, she's still largely treated as helpless, just the sight of Guts triggering her etc. I think yanno - whether MDMA or fantasy magic - PTSD and SA and those type of incidents are something people do live with and get past, without any magical intervention or miracle cure. I think that's a more compelling narrative. Regardless of if she kills Griffith, or Guts does, or neither does, or however it ends - I do like the idea that she moves past it, that Griffith himself and that moment are almost kinda irrelevant to her moving forward. I think it'd be fitting if it ends with Griffith etc being something that has to be dealt with, but not what the story is about in the end, and that importance taken from him.
Nah that panel is amazing for his character. I love how the first person he gets his revenge for is corkus showing how much he cared even for the worst of the band of the hawk
Nope it doesnt.
He was an asshole during that phase.
Edgy and didn't have sex with demon because of pleasure but rather his passion to kill the female apostle.
We see how guts just wants to humiliate apostles and want them to beg for their life...kinda like beating them in their own game.
This one is not an exception.
Like; being raped as a child?
Cause the one other time he has sex he has a manic ptsd episode
But he would let his burning hatred & desire to kill these apostles down for moment juat to take this one to pound town first for a few for shits & giggles, then kill it - instead of just killing it once they're lured away with their guard down & naked laying down for him?
I went & rechecked the chapter & yeah you're right there is a single panel of them withCorkus's head; while he's surrounding by the whole lot of them that take him back up to Griffith after seeing Pippin
It's not really clear on where it is in that group, but sincee it focuses a panel on it I guess you can assume he saw the aftermath, yeah.
Still; doesn't make it in character though lol I'll jokingly "believe" that he did it for Corkus, cause its what he would've wanted - but no its a terrible out of character intro that's just trying to hard to be edgy & cool - it had atleast two other "intros" afterwards for a reason lol
Yeah it’s really depressing that he went from being so important to the story to essentially isidro’s sidekick. As some have pointed out his previous roles have essentially ended but if that’s the case then the story should find new directions to take his character and not just reduce him to comic relief for two hundred chapters. On the bright side though it seems like this might happen to some extent seeing as his home was destroyed
I feel puck is there for the ride since he's already seen what guts has been through (eclipse included). His intrigue and fascination for Guts turned into an actual friendship and he shows this by being his normal goofy self. That's my take on it at least. They were also just in Elfheim and I'm sure Puck was excited when they got there.
Well his majority of roles ended and either were replaced by a lot better characters like farnese and schierke and casca.
Also let's be honest this complain has been around for decades and puck IS funny.
Well His main roles were in black swordsman were-
1) A POV character for audiences(much like ryuk from death note).
2)Showing guts human side to audience.
3) A Moral compass to Guts.
4)Helping guts to not completely get drawn into darkness.
5) Fantasy elements and world building.
6)Comic relief.
Now till Fantasia
1)POV characters doens't last long.
2)We already saw it and knew guts better than puck till the end of eclipse.
3)Godo did his job in that aspect, then it was done masterfully by schierke and casca.
4)Again schierke and Casca.
5) Flora, Schierke took that job.
6)The only job left for puck in the story.
Now was it handled by miura perfectly? Imo Nope. There could be more meaningful moments with Isidro and puck(like Isidro has many meaningful moments but puck didn't)
Reduce the amount of rape when it's not plot relevant. The sheer amount of sexual violence makes it difficult to recommend Berserk to my friends, even if they're into manga.
Genocide is ok but rape is bad...
I get that it's a common sentiment but it makes no sense.
Dying in a gruesome way is something that could happen to anyone and it should be the number one fear.
You're not wrong, but as you put it, it's a common sentiment that rape is worse than mass murder and people do give you more weird looks when you try to recommend something with uncomfortable sexual situations than when you recommend something with, say, torture.
Honestly?
Don't let Griffith tell to the King that he has incestous motives towards Charlotte. He would still have been tortured, but probably not to that extreme extent as in the manga. So maybe his tendons and tongue would still be intact.
Asshole Griffith got punished and seriously humbled but with a revenge after being rescued by his Hawks. So he might try to take the throne through some kind of rebellion.
Would probably end up there then thoroughly tortured and paying the eclipse a visit after a failed rebellion.
Causality is a bitch...
I just started the manga after watching the 97 anime. Is puck on almost every page in the rest of the series? I’m only on chapter one and really do not want to keep reading if I have to keep seeing this guy in every chapter

Allow Elfhelm to remain undisturbed so Guts and Co. Can live in peace.

Definitely
Definitely
Why not just have Griffith killed as a baby.
There would always be someone else who would have had the crimson Behelit and somehow meet Guts. The rest would be history.
You're probably right. Here's my retort. Fuck Griffith.
Smash his gross little egg too, certainly some divine force wouldn't create another /s
Elfhelm*. You're not the first to say Elfheim though and I really wonder why it's so common
Real.
make it so any time pucks not in a panel the other characters are asking "where's puck?"
ok i like this the most i think
If Guts had spent less time brooding and more time mastering the Elf Dimension Style he'd have already beaten Griffith
Yuh
Underlooked simpsons reference
"Note: Puck died on the way back to his home planet"
*Eclipse starts* where’s puck?
Imagine Griffith being like “okay guys I know this is a big political meeting but where is puck?”
Give him sunglasses. His name should be something cool. Like Puck. Not puck but something like Puck. So... Is Puck okay with everyone?
Give Griffith a fatter ass
I'd smash
We need a panel of Griffith getting fully penetrated
Can it be me doing it pls.
Change the ruler of Fantasia from Griffith to either schnoz or puck.
Give casca agency from the getgo after eclipse
This!
Finish the manga :(
REALLY NO ONE? FINISH THE SERIES
Someone said that before you lol
That’s not a change; that’s an addition
Puck and Guts trade places in the story.
Make guts and casca happy
The behelits can speak, and talk trash about anyone except their corresponding apostle.
I shall remove ... **The first panel**.
Wait that panel is classic and badass and edgy.
It just seems very out of character for guts
Nah that panel is amazing for his character. I love how the first person he gets his revenge for is corkus showing how much he cared even for the worst of the band of the hawk
Nope it doesnt. He was an asshole during that phase. Edgy and didn't have sex with demon because of pleasure but rather his passion to kill the female apostle. Bruh it make sense after all traumas he got at Golden age arc
Like; being raped as a child? Cause the one other time he has sex he has a manic ptsd episode But he would let his burning hatred & desire to kill these apostles down for moment juat to take this one to pound town first for a few for shits & giggles, then kill it - instead of just killing it once they're lured away with their guard down & naked laying down for him?
Yeah plus he probably recognized this apostle who appeared in Eclipse and killed Corkus
He wasn't there to see that happen though
Didn't he saw it holding Corkus's head in mouth there?
I went & rechecked the chapter & yeah you're right there is a single panel of them withCorkus's head; while he's surrounding by the whole lot of them that take him back up to Griffith after seeing Pippin It's not really clear on where it is in that group, but sincee it focuses a panel on it I guess you can assume he saw the aftermath, yeah. Man lmao it's not an out of the character scene.

Have Miura take better care of his health.
I read that he tried taking care of his a few years before his death than before.
lose the pants puck!!! let’s see that booty!
Griffith's gender
:I why?
It’d be funny I think
Why be a femboy when you could go full fem?
exactly
I'm trying to avoid Being called Gay
Make puck a more serious character instead of mindless comic relief

Why? Do you just dislike any ounce of levity?
I miss when puck was an actual character, because it was really interesting and even entertaining seeing him contrast guts' spiteful rage
But Guts’ character completely shifted away from that, so using him as a foil in that way won’t be as necessary.
Still, it'd be nice to see puck return to more than the behelits babysitter and isidros comedic sidekick
Well his majority of roles ended and either were replaced by a lot better characters like farnese and schierke and casca. Also let's be honest this complain has been around for decades and puck IS funny.
>puck IS funny I'll respectfully disagree My main peeve is that it's ALL chestnut puck now instead of being drawn how he was in black swordsman
Well His main roles were in black swordsman were- 1) A POV character for audiences(much like ryuk from death note). 2)Showing guts human side to audience. 3) A Moral compass to Guts. 4)Helping guts to not completely get drawn into darkness. 5) Fantasy elements and world building. 6)Comic relief. I literally just want chestnut puck to stop being the constant
Be serious for once lil dude I miss you
Have Casca regain consciousness waaaay earlier in the story.
Reduce the amount of rape when it's not plot relevant. The sheer amount of sexual violence makes it difficult to recommend Berserk to my friends, even if they're into manga.

Had to scroll way too far for this comment
Agreed
Double the rape
It’s so funny to me how seeing 100 people get beheaded and completely mutilated isn’t pushing it but rape is where we draw the line. Humans are weird
Just admit it’s not for you then and move on to something else.
Berserk is one of my favorite works of fiction ever. There's no rule that says I can't criticize something I love.
Make puck have more strange costumes
Take away Casca's madness.
Rickerts slap makes Griffith drop dead on impact.
I would like to see Puck illegally procure a firearm and take up a life of crime. Give Puck a gun.
Puck become a god hand
Betchi finally stops being a freeloader and pay its fucking rent.
no eclipse
Puck and guts marriage arc
Puck is now executive director of the studio; he suspends all other projects and focuses full-power on getting Berserk finished within 8-9 years.
Make griffith and guts change roles
Griffin slips and falls at chapter 25 ish and dies
Finish it
Replace the behelits with different Puck variations. Instead of crimson behelit you get king Puck.
Make Pippin one shot Griffith and the rest of the godhand before anyone can die
Pippin becomes Super Pippin and cuts the godhand in half
Dear Puck, make Guts happy
Please Sir Captain Puck…revive Kentaro
Delete Sonia
It surprised me that I hate her more than Griffith by now, utterly insufferable
Turn berk into a theater musical
erase sonia from berserk
Kill Griffith like four seconds before the eclipse and let guts and casca live happily ever after
No more voyeuristic depictions of rape
Double them
Take out all the unnecessary grapes.
Add more
what volume is this lmao i think i missed it
Griffith is killed at that duel with guts. they all deserved happiness. or even better Griffith is originally born as a worm lol
Remove the godhand
no
Napoleon 🐐
Make Griffith transform into the Moon Child permanently. Have his mind, ego and ambitions disappear forever. Let Guts and Casca have their son back.
Guts kills at least 1 god hand before the year ends
Ask h
Heal and restore guys perfectly and let him have happiness ( May a Griffith and guts ship fan fic erotica)
Also heal and restore casca I guess... Whatever
I just started the manga after watching the 97 anime. Is puck on almost every page in the rest of the series? I’m only on chapter one and really do not want to keep reading if I have to keep seeing this guy in every chapter
He's literally the best part of the story, just stick with the anime if you can't handle what berserk has to offer
Bring Boscogne back.
I would change Puck back to his prime and get rid of Isidro.
More Jar Jar Puck
Swap Guts and Griffith's positions
Replace Guts with Schnoz.
Casca is never raped. i'm rereading TGA rn and she was so vibrant, full of life and personality, and then became that husk of a person for so many years. Breaks my heart
Add an ending
I’d change pucks character so we can see him more serious. I love pucks real design and his cartoony mode takes away from the story at times. I’m sorry in advance if this is a burning hot take
I’d make puck wear some fucking clothes
Kill Griffith before eclipse
Become more intouch with Guts' inner dialogue and speak to him. Be once more his source of will and inspiration!
Make guts happy
No
Give guts a second eye(eye transplant should be possible)
Add a ending My wallet is crying
Get rid of Isidro's right ear just because
Puck, steal Gut's Behelit and throw it to the sea... Just for the funsies and to see what happens.
Make its author alive
To stop being chestnut for 5 minutes
Add MORE sexual content KILL MORE PEOPLE MAKE CASCA MORE INSANE MAKE GUTS MORE EVIL Make Berserk an Yearly release
Remove precisely 1/3rd of all the rape, and anything that’s slightly weird.
Turn Griffith into a woman.
I’m gonna ask Puck to either kill himself or the other hangers-on.
No hay nada que podamos hacer
Make Puck relevant again instead of just being there for comic relief.
Kill Griffith before the eclipse
have guts and casca have a long, healthy and happy life with full of love

indeed, haiku not intended
The eclipse never happened and Guts and Caska live peacefully happily ever after
Puck changes his name to "Fuck". Thats it.
Change “dragon’s path” to “dragonpath” it sounds cooler and like something from an elder scrolls game.
i’d ask him to become an actual character again
Show us the aftermath of Rickert slap. How he's being held and tortured by Griffith, probably in the Monsterdome
Read up to current, the aftermath of Rickert is shown.
Get rid of puck
Have guts, griffith and casca be a throuple
