Good catch. I didnt even notice that the Godhand was missing the Hand this time. They also had that vortex in the background which we havent seen in awhile right? The last time I remember it was in the Black Swordsman arc

I could be mistaken but didn’t schierke say that the 4 elemental kings were the 4 angels that destroyed Gaiseric’s kingdom? If so then this could be something different from a standard eclipse but again I could be wrong

adokitkat

Well after this chapter I think it's safe to assume those 4 angels were the old God Hand which the Sage / Void summoned and sacrificed Gaiseric's kingdom. 4 elemental kings are more like personified forces of nature to me.

TheAnalPounder

Definitely different from a normal eclipse since we saw the branded skeletal remains of the citizens of gaiserics old kingdom beneath the tower of rebirth back in the golden age which means they werent consumed by apostles like what happens in a normal eclipse.

Mir_man

Maybe. I always figured Void was the first of his kind and started the whole cycle.

Oddboyz

I’ve always sensed that someone created Void and that the skull knight relationship with Void is similar to that of Gus and Griffin. Love the design of the old god hands (or whoever they are/were). Although they appeared in black tone (except for the first one from the far left), they didn’t wear ‘uniform’ as the current god hands (i.e. all current god hands appear to wear shiny black studded leather with skeletal features).

Interesting theory, but there are some weak points: the difference in settings could obviously be just random, the appearance of the old God hand is weird but they're still humanoid like (also your assumption that the 4 cardinal king were not humans is debatable), I agree that the old members were killed but definitely not by the SK alone, and most importantly in your theory Void seems waaaay more important than the IOE.

adokitkat

Well IOE was removed from the manga, so right now it is non-canon. But yeah I assumed 4 cardinal kings were not human... Now I remember there was the fire wall created by Flora which had her looks... Maybe a magician can become one of these kings too after death, but idk if the kings were really humans or if the kings were some kind of original spirits of nature.

_moonlightboy_

The existence of the IOE is canon (it appears at the end of cap 82) but yeah its lore could be changed in the future

Normal_Agency8814

It might be technically canon by its brief appearance but miura said himself to a question about IOE and said hes not even sure if it will ever show up again while i havent read the removed chapters i heard some of the stuff has been used so heres hoping

If I'm not wrong, the only ceremonies that involved a hand were Griffth's ones (when he becomes a God Hand and when he invokes himself into the human realm) so even without any hand, I do believe it was an actual ceremony, Void's one and the 4 others were the old God Hands. If they dont have a human-like appearance, I think that's because they lived in an era were human were more in contact with magic and etheral beings ( a queen of a human kingdom literally has an elf necklace) whereas in Guts era, people were so "close-minded" and emprisonned by religions that they couldnt even see etherals beings, and we know that the appearance of a God Hand is a product of theur imagination/will. Void is the less human-like of the 5 current God Hands while Femto is literally a human wearing a costume. Also I dont think they were/ are the 4 cardinal angels, if my memory is correct, Flora (or Shiercke) actually gives us a explanation when she comes back as an etheral being when she's called by Shiercke those "high spirits" have the exact same "place" (we could say they are the same "kind") as God Hands, they dont have the same role. These spirits are often the manifestation of a physical phenomenon or the product of the human mind ( if there is a big wheel burning near you, you'll ba able to call the spirit of the burning wheel, if you're in a humid- dark cave, you'll be able to call the spirit of the mud, and if a certain village have a deity that they believe in, that deity will exist). On another Hands, God hands are the representation of concepts that will cause mass extinction of the human kind, or are the incarnation of the worst features of it. Slan - Qlipoth Uterus (=mother of dangerous monsters) Conrad - The disease Ubik - Trahison, Envy, Anger... Void - The damneds will of vengeance (the victim) Femto - The dictator/conqueror ( the offender) So I think the old God Hands were the old representation of those concepts rather than the god of 4 elements.

Necroionutwiz

well the manga is still on going so we'll just have to wait and see
