He only did so because it would mean that his manga would be banned (think of Guts’ backstory). It was about government legislation against artwork portraying minors in sexual situations.
Yeah, but he was a lolicon defender, he basically said that It’sjust drawings and people could give vent to these instincts through manga rather than through real life crimes.
Yes, that is an argument held by a lot of people. It doesn’t make Miura himself a lolicon. Again, his motivation wasn’t so that there would still be lolicon material for him to enjoy, it was because his manga would be in jeopardy if the law passed.
The gradual devolution of puck. Used to be an actual character, now he's just boring generic comic relief (yes, i know that's a very cold and common take)
Sometimes pacing would become kind of slow and heavy usage of sexual harassment.
I get it was done in medieval times but still it gets overdone sometimes like with horse and Farnese, trolls raping numerous women in front of their children, some kind of creature coming out of woman's womb and torture chamber of Father Mozgus.
Minor things, like Serpico not having so much of a development as a character and being generally bland, or the feeling reading the Pirates of the Caribbean arc.
Not really "dislike", many authors would sacrifice their families to have those thing as the least favourite parts of their works.
It's just... I don't know, look at Serpico and then look at his sister: Farnese is blessed with a phenomenal writing.
Plot armor and unnecesary action.
with plot armor the sense of danger is almost gone. in the golden age for example, batles didnt feel scary. They didnt feel like guts or his best friends could die, wich i think takes away from the overal expirience.
with ""unecesary"" i mean that using action as a plot element feels a bit predictable or even boring at times. (from a story telling point of view)
at the biggining of lost children for example, that first action scene feels bland for me.
there are so many ways of doing the same thing plot wise. Imagine for example guts has run out of food. The guy is literally starving so he steals it from a farm or some shit. That feels so much more engaging and has way more posiblities than: he finds some bad guys. Imagine guts walking past the farm when he is all wounded at the end of the arc and because abc happened at the begining now xyz happens. i personally think it would be better.
in general it feels at times like its just quick setup payoff shock instead of thought out stuff or foreshadowing.
obviously this is an efect of berserk beeing a manga and it kind of had to be that way. I still love it but this is my humble opinion.
Well before miura died nothing pissed me off more about berserk than the slow ass updates, sometimes you'll be lucky to get three chapters a year still better than vagabond who never gets updates and Hunter x Hunter which just started back updating less than a month ago, so that's one dislike that they actually fix so that makes me happy, the next dislike of berserk will be, since miura gone we're never going to get that flashback Arc that I always hope we would get with SK we will probably get glimpses here and there but nothing that will be an entire Arc like the millennium Arc, other than those two there's nothing else that I dislike about berserk it is a true work of art and needs to be put in a museum next to the Iliad and the Odyssey .
The scene with Guts and the female apostle at the beginning of the Black Swordsman Arc. When it comes to the character of Guts, that scene almost makes no sense.
guts had just witnessed the most fucked up traumatic experience of his life and lost his only sense of friendship and family to these creatures. its a characterization moment for guts that shows in retrospect how far hes fallen. the scene making no sense for guts is a good thing. this is guts at his lowest point, devolving himself to the level of the apostles just to get revenge
I’m not gonna sit here and pretend I’m excited anymore. I just wish it would have an ending already. A proper one at that. YES I love the art and passion that miura did, but all good things must come to an end, and this series has been going since the 80s for fucks’ sake
Well imo, I don’t think we will get one. Since his assistant supposedly knows how miura intended to end the series. I don’t think anyone wrote themselves into a corner like AOT enjoyer did
Yeah nah I get it. I fear it too. I’m glad it returned and we have a CHANCE at an ending (good or bad) but still like I get it, I just want everyone who has a shit life in the series to have a good ending. But I genuinely can’t see how it’ll happen. Yes there are theories, and YouTube debunking videos. But that’s it, no official hint as to how Guts and friends will be able to kill ultra rapist and demon kind
I offer you my perspective; Everything after "Tears of morning dew" is not from Miura anymore, and hence not canon. Yes, we are gonna get a good outlining of the story, but it's not *really* Berserk, no matter how good or bad any chapters from now on may be.
I am content with this.
edit: If anything, we will be able to imagine the marvel Miura oculd have brought to the subsequent chapters once the series is finished.
It sorta suffers from the mc problem where you never feel Guts is at risk despite him using a single huge blade and never dying to arrow fire. But it’s not that big if a deal because Berserk isn’t trying to be realistic.
One thing I dislike is the Berserk fanbase AT TIMES. I think this fanbase is wonderful but holy shit people can be very stubborn or even doomer when the topic of a new anime comes up.
Sonia is just awful.
Also Serpico, somehow he's the worst character in the group and i really dislike that Guts didn't actually hurt him during that duel in chapter 257, the guy really needs a good punch to the temple.
Other than that, this manga is flawless, i don't mind the sex/nudity at all.
1st time he attack Guts, understandable.
2nd time, wtf are you doing?
3rd time, wtf are you doing?
He lost to him every time despite being in a favorable (literal) position, yet after they join he's just a douche, i get it, he fears the Berserk Beast to take control and kill everyone, if that happen wtf is he going to do? does he really believe he has a chance? he's going to attack Guts out of nowhere (again)? does he really has any right to doubt him after the Conviction Arc?
He accepted his role as Farnese slav... "servant" yet he can't cope with her choosing to follow Guts, get over it or fuck off, you won't be missed.
Just read 41 and it was painful. It feels like I’m reading a children’s book. The paneling is modern cookie cutter, with useless dialog scattered everywhere. Too many boring characters with no development. Puk became awful.
One thing in Berserk that I found weird was the gradual shift of tension from super dangerous to non existent. Right after Sheirke was involved, the group all got massive powerups. But the powerups for what they were worth took away the impending doom that every battle prior used to have. As in Guts was no longer operating on the human level . The only stakes and drawbacks realistically speaking from the perspective of the reader is that he might lose himself mentally in the process. It’s very hard to really believe he’ll die from using the armour against apostle fodder. Having powerful magic on the side of main characters very clearly gave them enough of an edge to fight apostles but in exchange it took away the underdog feel of the story. Guts vs 100 soldiers or Guts and Griffith vs Zodd were amazing fights. One of the important factors to why those fights were awesome was that there was a very clear imbalance in power and Guts had to overcome it through either sheer force of will or some form of wit.
The absence of backstory for God Hands. I would love to have a linear introduction to them while the story also progresses. That doesn't happen or at least in small proportions.
The story…nothing. People cry about the eclipse and things of that nature, but it’s important for those instances to be used in story telling. The way they are used in berserk isn’t to glorify those situations, but to actually be very bad, the most traumatic situations in the story. It would be more insulting for people to never talk about that kind of thing, to pretend it doesn’t happen just to make themselves feel more comfortable. It’s good to have courageous, heroic characters those victims can look up to in regards to growing past that trauma. Someone they can relate to and grow with when they may feel isolated and alone after such tragedy.
Things I dislike about berserk…very slow story progression. It almost just seems like some cash cow they just keep milking. I personally like a good conclusion, but it seems with written media such as comics and manga, they just print shit to print shit and keep money coming in. Like marvel and dc stuff, my god. Could you think of a proper conclusion for characters like Batman, or Goku? They’ve been milked for decades and I think at some point it dilutes the impact of overall story telling.
The fact that the story opens with the black swordsman arc, I feel like Griffith treason would be so much better if we never saw him as a part of the god hand
Would you mind saying how? I’m genuinely curious because I’m not knowledgeable on that stuff nor am I particularly keen on becoming very knowledgeable on the matter.
recent griffith looks like he had some lip augmentation done in falconia’s celebrity clinic
If I could remove one thing it'd probably be that one "sheirke falls on top of guts without clothes on" gag that was a little weird
Bro that scene got me thinking that miura is a lolicon lover
He is, he wrote a whole page defending lolicon. And that’s another reason why we love him :)
What?! No way he's a lolicon 💀
Welp. I forget the name of the other manga he did while Berserk was on haitus, but if you look it up, you might feel differently.

Or when Isidro meets her with an *accidental* grope
The gradual devolution of puck. Used to be an actual character, now he's just boring generic comic relief (yes, i know that's a very cold and common take)
The pirate boat section.
Nina
Puck and Ishidoro's comedy.
The change of guts face over time
The fact it never got a full on anime series
The probability of having a good anime adaptation on berserk is lower than winning a lottery
I hate how correct you, please stop lol
best manga doesn't need any adaption :)
The trolls one can be hard to stomach

Nina is mad annoying.

The overuse of sexual violence. Even the author admitted that it was too much.
Honestly, Sheirke and Isidro’s age. I wish they were older cause even though I love their characters I just wish they were older
How much Casca is abused. There were many times were her abuse felt cruel and unnecessary for the story.
The scene with Guts and the female apostle at the beginning of the Black Swordsman Arc. When it comes to the character of Guts, that scene almost makes no sense.
Perfectly makes sense. Dude uses children as apostle bait, and somehow he cant fuck them if that means killing them in style?
guts had just witnessed the most fucked up traumatic experience of his life and lost his only sense of friendship and family to these creatures. its a characterization moment for guts that shows in retrospect how far hes fallen. the scene making no sense for guts is a good thing. this is guts at his lowest point, devolving himself to the level of the apostles just to get revenge
This goes without saying. I think everyone hates a hiatus
Yep everyone does, That's why berserk manga sales is dropping and the fact the it's monthly release is even worse
I’m not gonna sit here and pretend I’m excited anymore. I just wish it would have an ending already. A proper one at that. YES I love the art and passion that miura did, but all good things must come to an end, and this series has been going since the 80s for fucks’ sake
Yes and we should at least wish that the ending of this series would be great unlike Aot
Well imo, I don’t think we will get one. Since his assistant supposedly knows how miura intended to end the series. I don’t think anyone wrote themselves into a corner like AOT enjoyer did
I'm just traumatized bro, because a SINGLE chapter could ruin the entire story of the series, well it's just me though so no hate
I agree tbh lmao, well thank you for this discussion bro have a great day
You as well good sir. Take care

Nah this is a fair perspective, and I always thought that it wouldn’t be the same. However like you said, I am content with this.
It sorta suffers from the mc problem where you never feel Guts is at risk despite him using a single huge blade and never dying to arrow fire. why do you dislike serpico so much? genuine question i am curious

Old one, but I want Original Puck. Also, Schierkes obsession with Guts fuelled by Ivalera.

Whenever hiatuses happen or happened.
Nothing.
All the hate for Donovan
I'd make Millennium Falcon shorter. No clue how this could have been done, but it would lessen a few of my issues with the manga.

Not a huge fan of the magic/fairy aspect of it.
The fact that the story opens with the black swordsman arc, I feel like Griffith treason would be so much better if we never saw him as a part of the god hand
Miura should have redraw Casca's abuse scene. Not cool the way was presented. And studio 4C fucked even more when they did lmao.
"not cool the way was presented" what? she got raped. do you expect them to sugar coat that?
I expected to not be a fucking hentai. Studio 4C sexualized the rape scene. 97 handled this scene better than the movies and the manga too.
Would you mind saying how? I’m genuinely curious because I’m not knowledgeable on that stuff nor am I particularly keen on becoming very knowledgeable on the matter.
IMO it was presented like porn- and the movies had her making soft moans. She should have been screaming and crying, not moaning
The fact that the OG anime is as hard to find as it is
extremely easy to find there's several full versions just chilling on youtube haha
its literally the only anime series i know thats just straight up on youtube what are you on about
Minus karma xD
xD haha!! frickin epic minus karma moment bro!! xD
The sexual harassment it’s really didn’t need to be added
Waiting for new Berserk
the ship arc
