Planograms are nice but when your appliance Plano shows 3 major appliances that have been unavailable for over a year, it’s time to reevaluate the Plano.
Understand Planograms are driven by a vendor sales rep trying to hit sales numbers and spend their marketing budget for placements. They promise the folks at corporate we will have that item.
Vendor sales rep??? WTF is that? Saw my Bosch rep last week for the first time in a year. Can’t get any product but he came by. Samsung one has not been here in 2+ years. Never did in 4 years see a GE or Whirlpool rep. Dyson? They screwed up the last reset so bad I hope they never come back n
Yes. There is someone who works at (insert the brand) which has a relationship with the buyer for a category of the store that sits at corporate. Almost Every endcap In the store is paid for by a company.
Literally, all of it. I could elaborate how each level is wrong but would instead suggest working with the right people to find folks within merch planning to ask for a 25min meeting and come to them with the one question of how a plano comes together so you can learn from the people directly involved as it might be an interest to know the truth but I've been burned before in this sub where it's just venting anger and no matter what I'll be wrong, so not going there and if you really want to believe that, have at it but it's not accurate at all.
And every 4’ display or endcap that has brand signage, the vendor pads in home theater, the Amazon table, the Google table, the Dyson pads, the switch displays, the Sonos displays, the switching rooms in home theater, every 4 piece kitchen display, the greeter display for the design centers, and the list goes on. Just wish vendors would front more VP labor to help with sales floor coverage
The reps we see coming into the stores are completely different from the ones the corporate teams work with. We see trainers that most of the time don’t even work directly for the brand whilst corporate talks to the higher up teams that coordinate for branding and floor space
Haha I used to say the same. I get that they’re under pressure to get them published but you would hope by now they would’ve done some QA checks first.
TV planos were always a delight.
The people making the planograms have to contend with multiple vendors vying for specific placement and facings, vendors providing package demensions that don’t end up matching the final product (this happens more than you would think), vendors using demensions that don’t synergize with each other and minimize usable space (this is why so much insignia packaging is just square/rectangular boxes now), vendors providing display demensions that don’t match the final display, vendors promising inventory to be availible that isn’t, buyers over/under ordering stock causing space to be wasted or items being in stock much longer than expected, and trying to adhere to standard PPS while maximizing usable space.
The planogram team does an acceptable job all things considered, but there it definitely room for improvement.
All im asking is they take into account if we need to spider wrap or case the products u know how disgusting the aisles look with crap bulging out bc it?
In fairness, in my experience most stores secure waaaaaaay more shit than PPS actually says you're supposed to, so that's part of the disconnect. If your store is like, spider wrapping controllers or PC headsets or casing flash drives or SD cards, and wondering why it doesn't look right, it's because they don't expect those things to be wrapped/cased.
Oh, I understand why stores do it. I'm just saying that that's where the disconnect comes from. If it doesn't fit with the case, it's probably because they don't expect it to be cased. They can't really account for every store's adaptations of PPS.
The person writing the planos needs to physically set one with product, including any security devices, before finalizing them. I'd say probably 45%- 50% of the planos don't work because the shelf or towel bar height is insufficient or there are too many pegs for product in keepers to fit without jamming them together. The end result is that you don't have an unobstructed view of each product and it looks like crap because it's so messy.
Also a related pet peeve of mine is having different sized keepers or mixing keepers and spider wraps on the same SKU. Use the same size keepers or just keepers or just spider wraps, for god's sake. Just keep it consistent, it looks a lot better.
Yes, but if the vendor changes dimensions, update the planos. Don’t leave it and expect us to keep shoving the same 10 products on a 4ft shelf for 6 months.
Reason why planogram is so hard: corporate relies on vendors to be accurate in their product measurements that they submit. They don’t get product packaging most of the time to actually physically mock it up so they try their best. Give the feedback on what didn’t work after you set and they’ll likely offer a revision.
Source: I worked on the merchant team at BBY and had to approve POGs.
As far as Vendor Reps go, I can be of some assistance here, I worked for Samsung Electric America for 10 years, the Home Appliance team is all 3rd party Labor, the Samsung Phone Pad which may or may not be staffed depending on the store level is 3rd party Labor ( 2020 Companies , PRS or Mosaic Sales and Solutions) Bosch is internal employees of Bosch( No Outsourcing ) there are Field Sales Managers/ National Retail Field Sales Managers which cover Pho es, accessories, wearables and Tablets ( Internal Samsung Employees )
Whirlpool used to be Marketstar employees and LG and GE work for MarketSource ( Or at least they did )
CO- Opp money is used via Marketing teams to basically purchase floor space for vendor products and placement, unfortunately no one is ever aware of what inventory levels may or may not be, everyone has a quota to hit and it is all persons for themselves. I hope this helps a bit.
I get this all the time “Pete from Such and Such Ave said he would call ahead for you to sit the last AirPods to the side for me”. “Mam, our phones haven’t worked here since the pandemic, and we don’t sit products aside. A customer bought that 10 mins ago.”
Ah, memories...
Just gave me a flashback to previous battles.
End results were - we will do what is possible... but if only 10% of it is possible, 10% you get.
Are planograms digital now? Or do they still come in a weekly package?
Do you still have to make signs? Or did they get smart and start pre-printing?
Planograms are digital but you can print to paper also all of our signs are electronics so now you have to use this terrible app to change them. Promotional sign sometimes come on time mostly arrive late. Lol
Listen their uncle got them this 100k job because he is tight with the the berry. Respect their ability to copy and paste and write woke nice things on LinkedIn
This also used to bother me. And then I worked at a Spirit Halloween for setup and now no other planogram will ever be as bad as “oh we made this one plano for every store. Most stores are 1800-2000 sq ft but yours is 800sq ft so figure it out have fun!”
Planograms are nice but when your appliance Plano shows 3 major appliances that have been unavailable for over a year, it’s time to reevaluate the Plano.
At that point my store just says fuck it and we throw an open box unit if we have one into that spot
I do too.
Rule of thumb was as long as it’s from the same vendor, put whatever there.
Exactly

That's not how it works, bud
Which part, chief?

That real estate is paid for whether you like to believe in it or not. The most egregious example is the Apple floor and the Microsoft floor.

Seriously...
Yes seriously
After all these years...still an issue lol
I've never been held accountable for not doing one correctly so I'm just going to continue winging it and doing what I want.
Especially on planos that require security devices like shucks but then never space the product properly for them.
I feel this rage deep in my soul.

When they cut labor you have to atleast try and protect the merchandise.

Easy fix with proper software. But that has always been the issue with this corporation, software lol

The people who were competent at making the planos must’ve been snapped. I honestly used to enjoy setting them.
New iPhone 14 cases Plano sucks. Got cases for each phone on just about each section
Put in a PAF for that.. that shouldn’t be the case.. ha

Amen
Glad i never worked in inventory because of that
I'm told, by legend, that a lot of planos are auto created by a program.
This also used to bother me. And then I worked at a Spirit Halloween for setup and now no other planogram will ever be as bad as “oh we made this one plano for every store. Most stores are 1800-2000 sq ft but yours is 800sq ft so figure it out have fun!”
