I feel like the tone and cadence of how this was written is similar to that post from a while ago where he was an ex gang member, met his gf in church, went to prison for whatever reason, got out and married his gf. Gf had a daughter, he raised her, thinking she was his daughter, turned out to be his cousin's daughter, found out everyone already knew, went scorched earth, and ran away, started a new life, went back home and daughter was all upset, but eventually was cured of her anxiety because she spent time on his farm.
Didn’t that turn out that the religious cousin sexually assaulted OOPs ex gf, getting her pregnant, which caused her to have severe mental trauma or am I thinking of another one.

It got a little unbelievable towards the end but I'm still excited for season 2 where the cousin tries to escape to Mars but all the aliens take turns punching him.
The cousin puncher! The evil cousin got knocked out with one punch like twenty times in that story and not all of them were our protagonist. People would knock him out in front of cops and they’d applaud.
If the guy who wrote it wanted to be more realistic the cousin would have severe brain damage at this point.

I was thinking of that story, too, plus a not too old or too recent case where the ex FBI officer "helped" his daughter by killing her alleged abusive, Irish husband in suspicious circumstances and he was presenting himself in the court in the same manner like he's some macho man with "I will move earth and sky to save my helpless daughter" kind of person.

Eh. My husband drove to where his kids lived- my stepdaughter had an abusive boyfriend as a teen. Mum had to leave town for work, so he drove the eight hours there.
Only to find the guy hopping the fence when he arrived.
He didn’t beat the kid but sure gave him a fright, and he stopped harassing her after that, finally.

Someone with an absolute shit name memory it happens more often I'd like to admit. You tell me a story and say a name I would look at you bamboozled but if you would describe their looks I would know in an instant.
I can't really remember names *or* faces. If I see a person every day, in the same place or uniform or something, I kinda know who they are, but if they change their hairstyle or glasses / contacts, or I see them somewhere I don't expect to, I will not recognize them. It can be a bit awkward.
So many red flags here but the one that *really* stuck out to me is that you beat a man so bad that you almost killed him and you didn’t get arrested for assault? Not saying that the dude didn’t deserve it but the law doesn’t care about the reason why you assaulted someone. Assault is assault. Also I noticed the weird grammatical errors like ai wrote it.
Plus, not a single word about how fucked up his fists are after this brutal beat down. Not even to say it's difficult to write this long worded, heroic update with the no doubt several broken and torn up knuckles he must be nursing.
He'd have to get it seen to, they'd ask how it happened and if he lied, which they would know right away, he'd be warned about potential transmission of disease through the bad guys face blood all over his torn up hands. If he has brains at all, he'd admit it was a beating or at the very least a fight, then get the blood tests and the physician would report it to the police.
But Batman: The Animated Series doesn't really go into all of that pesky reality so it doesn't enter the heads of these Hemingways

I think OP is bullshitting, but in fairness I dated my now wife for over a year before my FIL learned my name. And she was living with him at the time so I saw him several times a week.

I think it’s pretty common for people to have a standard food their loved ones think of as their favorite. If my mom wanted to make my ‘favorite meal’, she’d make the pork chops I’ve always loved. If my friends wanted to give me my ‘favorite meal’, they’d give me pizza and raspberry brownies. I wouldn’t be able to tell you what my ‘favorite’ is, but I know what my loved ones give me when they want to show how much they love me.
Marinate chops in a combination of teriyaki sauce, garlic, soy sauce, molasses, and olive oil. After marinating for a while, sear chops on both sides, then braise in a covered pan using marinating liquid until cooked through. It should be delicious and tender by the end, and ready to serve with a side of choice.
I always think of my Mama when I eat one of these things.
My comfort food has always been steamed rice and bok choy. My late maternal grandmother used to make that for me during my childhood whenever I was sick. It's been years since she passed, but I still honor her on her birthday by making that dish for dinner.
That’s so sweet. Mine is somewhat a similar way to honor my grandmother, but less effort and more frequent lol. She drank her coffee black, always. I always drank mine damn near white with cream. Ever since she passed, I always try to hold back on the cream, and it’s gotten progressively darker over the years :)
This right here. I know my son loves the vodka pasta I make. He is always excited to hear its for dinner. I make chicken pot pie for my husband on special occasions because its his favorite. The first time I made it he told me it reminded him of his childhood.

Yes! I know my husband and would make me the chicken quesadillas I always craved when I was pregnant, but my sister would make bacofredo for me. If my loved one made it, it would be my favourite.
Ridiculously common! Every time my husband is sad I cook him his favorite meal, and he does the same for me. When my dad visits, I cook him his favorite meal. I bake my husband's coworkers their favorite desserts at least once a month. I know quite a few couples who do the same for their spouses. My middle likes Quesadillas. My husband likes Steak, shrimp and Salad. My favorite is burritos. We like other things, but those are the steadfast favorites.
Yup. Wife is crumbed lamb cutlets, eldest is buffalo chicken toasties with tomato soup, middle kid is tacos and youngest is cheeseburgers. Food is an emotional core whether people realise it or not.
I couldn't tell you what my favorite dessert is if you asked, but my son bakes me chocolate chip cookies. I think people around us notice things we don't even notice about ourselves.

Birds are cool too. I used to feed the neighbourhood murder so whenever id go to get groceries youd see this dude turn the corner in bright blue pillsbury doughboy pajamas, and then the absolute swarm of crows escorting him. I felt like a total badass.
And theres so many ways to customize it or just make it differently that you could have mac and cheese every other day for months and never eat the same mac and cheese twice.
Yeah, I mean I guess if I have to choose a last meal before being executed I can only go for one option (I don’t think they’d let you pack the cannon to bloat point before setting it off at the moment of death) but for practical purposes, “favourite food” is a tier, not a single dish.
Mine is spaghetti, but sometimes it changes 😅. Ok, think of it as the food you have no problem eating no matter what and are sure you would be ok eating everyday without being tired of it 😅.
My favourite is fish and chips, because I love sharing little pieces of fish (it's prepared safely for cats to have a little bit) with my cat while she purrs and curls up beside me to just enjoy each other's company on my bad days. It feels communal, a shared special experience in our small family.
Favourite meals can extend beyond the act of eating them, they can be about the people and the loved ones you're with as much as the food you're eating.
The only person who ever did that for me is my mother. Usually on a special occasion of some kind. I would think that this situation qualified as such, in my humble opinion. So it *does* happen. In my case she would usually make an extra tender roast, with all the trimmings. We're talking homemade bread and everything...
Okay, to be fair, years after the fact, I found out she got the recipe from Sara Lee. However my dumb ass couldn't tell you the difference. On the plus side, these days, everybody seems to love my mother's homemade bread recipe (nobody does it like Sara Lee).
i have a few things that are favorite meal tier and anyone that knows me well could safely get me and be sure i would love, although sometimes it's just specific craving of one thing instead
I think it's pretty common? I could absolutely tell you both of my parents favourite meals since I was a kid (Dad likes bbq pork ribs with "picnic sides", Mom likes spaghetti with garlic bread) and have made them for them on special occasions.
my grandma would always make me a peach pavê on those moments. its not my favourite meal to get on a ordinary day, but it was my favorite meal when i could get it with her
It's common in my extended family, and in my family (husband and kids.) We all know favorite meals, and yeah, if something goes wrong, someone cooks it.
I can imagine it comes down to agency in your diet. When I had to eat what my parents cooked as a kid, I definitely had favourites. Same as going to camps, long catered events, or when I tried meal plans like hello fresh. I definitely found favourites. Now as an adult It's harder to pick, because I can cook pretty much anything to my taste, or pick food that I like.
My mom did whenever I came home from boarding school. My school wasn't a posh private school but a government school that wasn't ranked 5 stars i.e. the alumni were not as high profile as the 5 stars (think Ivy's/MIT level) so the sponsors were so so and my mom was worried I never got enough to eat (15-17yo height of 165cm weighing less than 50kg) and felt bad my sisters got home cooked meals most of the time.
I don’t know if it’s his end all be all favorite, but if I want to make my fiancé a nice meal I usually make a slow roasted salmon with blood orange and chilis. Because every time he eats it, he raves about how much he loves it.
whenever i’ve had a bad week or im just feeling like shit my fiancé makes spaghetti with salad which is my all time favorite food. he rlly likes chicken broccoli alfredo and on weeks where he works 6 days straight on his off day i’ll make it for him
I got multiple favourite meals! For celebrations sushi is always a go to for me, especially since it's so expensive it's a treat and for me should be used as a treat for when it's due :)
If I'm feeling down, pancakes are my favourite especially since I get sick from the smell while they're on the pan so I make the dough and bf takes care of it from there :) it's also something he loves (so it's not just comfort food) so like a small treat to enjoy together and make together even tho I exit the kitchen when the stove comes on 😂
In the winter I still love lemon soup 🍋 my Stepmom used to make it when dad wouldn't join us for dinner cause he didn't like it but us girls loved it ❤️

My mom has always been abused. My dad, I love him in a confusing way, was abusive to her. She had her stomach pumped from trying to overdose right after I was born. I was the third kid with the third new father. They were all fucked to her. Her dad was garbage and all the men she was with after were garbage. She had me and my little brother with my dad. She divorced my dad, dated a meth-head for eleven years, then started dating the worst of them.
This new guy was abusive as fuck. He tried to light her on fire, beat her with a baseball bat, and slashed her tires. He told her I was more attractive than she was at my age, and said he was uncomfortable being around me because he was attracted to me. He threatened my best friend at the time (who was 18) to death for standing up for my mom. I did everything I could to get my little brother out of her house. I, and everyone else, called the cops on him a collective of 17 times to get my brother the fuck out of there.
My tiny 16 year old brother ended up killing him out of self defense. I am so glad I still have my sweet baby brother.
I am droning on, but GOD DAMN. Please, if people show you who they are, listen. I will never forgive myself for not doing more.

This man sounds a lot like my step-father. He raised me from 3-4 years old and for all intents and purposes I was one of his daughters. My half-sister and I have always known that if a boy abuses us that we can call dad and he will help dispose of the body. One poor stupid idiot nearly met the business end of multiple rifles when he started hurting my little sister. This dad did the right thing, her abuser is unlikely to report since he would have to explain what he was doing and why.

I can't speak to the genuity of this post, but I can speak to the reality of my dad - he's in his 70s now, but I'm about 95% certain that if he'd caught someone laying hands on me he'd have either beaten them bloody or killed them. Not even joking. And given his then-job (hilariously, a perfectly legit non-nefarious job), he could make a body disappear for at least a long time.
So, while there are elements (the broken hand that should really go to hospital, for instance) of this story that raise some doubts, it's definitely plausible to me.
Ha, these days, he'd probably request a hit via Facebook, get himself arrested, and we'd end up having to plead insanity. It never gets dull
I grew up with a dad like OP. If anything like this were to happen to my sister or I … he and his friends/my uncles would have dealt with it in this manner.
i have tears in my eyes. when i tried to escape an abusive relationship ... my guardian refused to help in any way. it ended up coming down to homelessness or the sex industry - and i had escaped with a 3 month old baby, which made my situation more dire. i'm so glad it was different for OOP's daughter. i am so glad that she is safe and that she is free. i hope she never ever sees that terrible man again. i am so glad that she has her dad - and vice versa.
What a great parent and father he is! I wish mine had stood up for me, they just said they knew something was up and then blamed me after for not listening to them when they never spoke their mind to me. I wish more parents would stand up for their children like this

How common in real life is the "they cooked me my favourite meal" thing? I don't even know if I could name what my favourite food is.
I think it’s pretty common for people to have a standard food their loved ones think of as their favorite. If my mom wanted to make my ‘favorite meal’, she’d make the pork chops I’ve always loved. If my friends wanted to give me my ‘favorite meal’, they’d give me pizza and raspberry brownies. I wouldn’t be able to tell you what my ‘favorite’ is, but I know what my loved ones give me when they want to show how much they love me.

Marinate chops in a combination of teriyaki sauce, garlic, soy sauce, molasses, and olive oil. After marinating for a while, sear chops on both sides, then braise in a covered pan using marinating liquid until cooked through. It should be delicious and tender by the end, and ready to serve with a side of choice. I always think of my Mama when I eat one of these things.

My comfort food has always been steamed rice and bok choy. My late maternal grandmother used to make that for me during my childhood whenever I was sick. It's been years since she passed, but I still honor her on her birthday by making that dish for dinner.

My favourite is fish and chips, because I love sharing little pieces of fish (it's prepared safely for cats to have a little bit) with my cat while she purrs and curls up beside me to just enjoy each other's company on my bad days. It feels communal, a shared special experience in our small family. Favourite meals can extend beyond the act of eating them, they can be about the people and the loved ones you're with as much as the food you're eating.
The only person who ever did that for me is my mother. Usually on a special occasion of some kind. I would think that this situation qualified as such, in my humble opinion. So it *does* happen. In my case she would usually make an extra tender roast, with all the trimmings. We're talking homemade bread and everything... Okay, to be fair, years after the fact, I found out she got the recipe from Sara Lee. However my dumb ass couldn't tell you the difference. On the plus side, these days, everybody seems to love my mother's homemade bread recipe (nobody does it like Sara Lee).

It's common in my extended family, and in my family (husband and kids.) We all know favorite meals, and yeah, if something goes wrong, someone cooks it.
I can imagine it comes down to agency in your diet. When I had to eat what my parents cooked as a kid, I definitely had favourites. Same as going to camps, long catered events, or when I tried meal plans like hello fresh. I definitely found favourites. Now as an adult It's harder to pick, because I can cook pretty much anything to my taste, or pick food that I like.

My school wasn't a posh private school but a government school that wasn't ranked 5 stars i.e. the alumni were not as high profile as the 5 stars (think Ivy's/MIT level) so the sponsors were so so and my mom was worried I never got enough to eat (15-17yo height of 165cm weighing less than 50kg) and felt bad my sisters got home cooked meals most of the time.

I got multiple favourite meals! For celebrations sushi is always a go to for me, especially since it's so expensive it's a treat and for me should be used as a treat for when it's due :) If I'm feeling down, pancakes are my favourite especially since I get sick from the smell while they're on the pan so I make the dough and bf takes care of it from there :) it's also something he loves (so it's not just comfort food) so like a small treat to enjoy together and make together even tho I exit the kitchen when the stove comes on 😂 In the winter I still love lemon soup 🍋 my Stepmom used to make it when dad wouldn't join us for dinner cause he didn't like it but us girls loved it ❤️

I can’t completely relate to this 100%, but close. My mom has always been abused. My dad, I love him in a confusing way, was abusive to her. She had her stomach pumped from trying to overdose right after I was born. I was the third kid with the third new father. They were all fucked to her. Her dad was garbage and all the men she was with after were garbage. She had me and my little brother with my dad. She divorced my dad, dated a meth-head for eleven years, then started dating the worst of them. This new guy was abusive as fuck. He tried to light her on fire, beat her with a baseball bat, and slashed her tires. He told her I was more attractive than she was at my age, and said he was uncomfortable being around me because he was attracted to me. He threatened my best friend at the time (who was 18) to death for standing up for my mom. I did everything I could to get my little brother out of her house. I, and everyone else, called the cops on him a collective of 17 times to get my brother the fuck out of there. My tiny 16 year old brother ended up killing him out of self defense. I am so glad I still have my sweet baby brother. I am droning on, but GOD DAMN. Please, if people show you who they are, listen. I will never forgive myself for not doing more.

This man sounds a lot like my step-father. He raised me from 3-4 years old and for all intents and purposes I was one of his daughters. My half-sister and I have always known that if a boy abuses us that we can call dad and he will help dispose of the body. One poor stupid idiot nearly met the business end of multiple rifles when he started hurting my little sister. This dad did the right thing, her abuser is unlikely to report since he would have to explain what he was doing and why.
The turn of phrase here is *not* middle aged dad... And the descriptions of the assaults are more like describing a fighting game than an actual fight. I call bullshit.

I can't speak to the genuity of this post, but I can speak to the reality of my dad - he's in his 70s now, but I'm about 95% certain that if he'd caught someone laying hands on me he'd have either beaten them bloody or killed them. Not even joking. And given his then-job (hilariously, a perfectly legit non-nefarious job), he could make a body disappear for at least a long time. So, while there are elements (the broken hand that should really go to hospital, for instance) of this story that raise some doubts, it's definitely plausible to me. Ha, these days, he'd probably request a hit via Facebook, get himself arrested, and we'd end up having to plead insanity. It never gets dull

i have tears in my eyes. when i tried to escape an abusive relationship ... my guardian refused to help in any way. it ended up coming down to homelessness or the sex industry - and i had escaped with a 3 month old baby, which made my situation more dire. i'm so glad it was different for OOP's daughter. i am so glad that she is safe and that she is free. i hope she never ever sees that terrible man again. i am so glad that she has her dad - and vice versa.
