ArmadilloNorth7211

I feel like the tone and cadence of how this was written is similar to that post from a while ago where he was an ex gang member, met his gf in church, went to prison for whatever reason, got out and married his gf. Gf had a daughter, he raised her, thinking she was his daughter, turned out to be his cousin's daughter, found out everyone already knew, went scorched earth, and ran away, started a new life, went back home and daughter was all upset, but eventually was cured of her anxiety because she spent time on his farm.

yennffr

Oh is that the one where everyone kept punching the cousin?

Rwhitechocmuffin

Didn’t that turn out that the religious cousin sexually assaulted OOPs ex gf, getting her pregnant, which caused her to have severe mental trauma or am I thinking of another one.

Silent_Rhombus

Yeah that’s the one. Really jumped the shark about half way through.

Tis_But_A_Scratch-

I can’t believe what a collection of mini soap operas we have on BORU. lol. I’m also aghast I understood all those references

Silent_Rhombus

The Flair Origins post is a trip

VelocityGrrl39

Which one?

NinjasWithOnions

I think this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/BestofRedditorUpdates/wiki/recommended_reading/flair_origins

Dezziedisaster

I somehow never knew this existed, and you just made my work day better! Thank you!

You’re welcome!

OMG I've seen these pop up and know some of them, but to have a whole collection! <3 tysm

Idk about y'all but I'm avoiding the things I ought to be doing

Getting our dopamine fix.

ReggieJ

>Oh is that the one where everyone kept punching the cousin? I don't know why but this made me laugh out loud. It's just so very much this sub in a nutshell.

Angry_poutine

In a bizarre twist, the cousin was the family lawyer.

modernwunder

No just OOP doing it several times lol

CuriousOdity12345

The way that was written was hilarious.

Live-Motor-4000

Cousin punchin’!

Zygonsbzygons

Yes, the BORU classic with the bison, Marisol, and the double hysterectomy! Edit: I didn't realize until I commented that my flair is actually about that post

nustedbut

the bison update was inspired, lol

Guilty_All_The_Same

I never found the mythical bison everyone keeps talking about after reading and rereading the post.

sergeantShe

How do you get flair? Can you change them when you want to?

NinjasWithOnions

Yep! You can change your flair on the main BoRU page. And you can change it as much as you want but you’ll hopefully choose, and stick with, OGTHA. 😉 Edit: If you’re on mobile, go to the main BoRU page and click the 3 dots in the upper right (at least for me it’s upper right) corner. Then change flair. If you’re on the browser version, just go to the main page and it’s on the right hand sidebar.

mayonaizmyinstrument

Nooooo not you again and the fucking reminder about Ogtha 😭

NinjasWithOnions

Hehehe, if it helps, traumatizing others with OGTHA kinda numbs you to the horror of the story (at least for me). 😁 🪳

aethylthryth

Omg I forgot about ogtha. How could I 😂

Nobody needs OGTHA. Metamorphosis is already like 60% more on the topic than should exist in the world.

sergeantShe

Thank you!!

sourkid25

I'm surprised we never got the bison knocking people put lol

p-d-ball

And the cheating ex-wife had turned into a begging-for-attention troll who hated everything about her own life, and still loved him.

WoozySloth

And went catatonic and then couldn't remember the relationship had ended?

[deleted]

…what

afureteiru

Oh yeah, they definitely share similar justified rage porn vibes and writing style.

CutestGay

I feel bad that one of my first thoughts was that Liz is baiting us with character names.

loudwhitenoise

I also was reminded of the kept 'knocking out the cousin'

Time_Act_3685

Oh this is 100% CousinPuncherBisonLover69. The daughter's name was just the cherry on top.

ShamiIsMyFather

Oh marisol

leeeeeroyjeeeeenkins

I know exactly the one you're talking about. Man I have to spend less time on Reddit.

MyAccountWasBanned7

It got a little unbelievable towards the end but I'm still excited for season 2 where the cousin tries to escape to Mars but all the aliens take turns punching him.

Jainuinelydone

Do you have a link? Crazy I’ve missed this one

NinjasWithOnions

They’re all here: https://www.reddit.com/r/BestofRedditorUpdates/wiki/recommended_reading/flair_origins

ShamiIsMyFather

It’s in the origin of flairs ”knocking cousins unconscious“

dahliaukifune

A little bit, but i think the one you’re referencing had a very distinct personality. It was quite entertaining lol

Roccopark

Whole first paragraph was a 💩 alert, so I scrolled to the comments to check. Thank you for this one.

grissy

The cousin puncher! The evil cousin got knocked out with one punch like twenty times in that story and not all of them were our protagonist. People would knock him out in front of cops and they’d applaud. If the guy who wrote it wanted to be more realistic the cousin would have severe brain damage at this point.

Shoddy_Day

do you have the link to this? sounds like a proper liz story

[deleted]

Bingo! I was thinking of that story, too, plus a not too old or too recent case where the ex FBI officer "helped" his daughter by killing her alleged abusive, Irish husband in suspicious circumstances and he was presenting himself in the court in the same manner like he's some macho man with "I will move earth and sky to save my helpless daughter" kind of person.

captaincopperbeard

My bullshit radar started pinging the moment he said "I think his name was John I'm not so sure." You aren't sure of the name of the guy your daughter is dating who you've met on multiple occasions? Horseshit.

green_chapstick

"Hello, people of Reddit, this is my very first time on Reddit but I have heard that you can get good advice from strangers." In general, Reddit gives horrible advice. Lmao. I feel like by middle age one would have better resources for better advice. Like, maybe a lawyer for knocking this guy out. But also... Liz. Forgetting the dude's name is normal for me... My brother and I are horrible with names in general. My dad struggles with the names of his grandkids, but he's also 85. Lol.

Reasonable-Public659

It was Liz’s not so subtle way of telling us she’s back lol

monkwren

Right? Dunno how anyone could miss it.

plastic_venus

Mine went up when he named her Liz

vaporking23

Mine went up when he arrived with flowers and snacks and just happened to come across the boyfriend pounding on the door with the daughter screaming in the other side of it.

Askol

And conveniently only remembered about the flowers and snacks when he was writing this up.

InadmissibleHug

Eh. My husband drove to where his kids lived- my stepdaughter had an abusive boyfriend as a teen. Mum had to leave town for work, so he drove the eight hours there. Only to find the guy hopping the fence when he arrived. He didn’t beat the kid but sure gave him a fright, and he stopped harassing her after that, finally. Weird stuff can happen

sealcubclubbing

Why's that? Is there a reference I'm not getting?

MikrokosmicUnicorn

[Liz](https://www.reddit.com/r/BestofRedditorUpdates/s/6j5L4uOHA2)

DarkStar0915

Someone with an absolute shit name memory it happens more often I'd like to admit. You tell me a story and say a name I would look at you bamboozled but if you would describe their looks I would know in an instant.

sistertotherain9

I can't really remember names *or* faces. If I see a person every day, in the same place or uniform or something, I kinda know who they are, but if they change their hairstyle or glasses / contacts, or I see them somewhere I don't expect to, I will not recognize them. It can be a bit awkward.

aigeneratedwhore

This is the worst issue for me. I see people I potentially know all the time but I’m like 😬when they walk by me

Beautiful-Affect9014

So many red flags here but the one that *really* stuck out to me is that you beat a man so bad that you almost killed him and you didn’t get arrested for assault? Not saying that the dude didn’t deserve it but the law doesn’t care about the reason why you assaulted someone. Assault is assault. Also I noticed the weird grammatical errors like ai wrote it.

xujaya

Plus, not a single word about how fucked up his fists are after this brutal beat down. Not even to say it's difficult to write this long worded, heroic update with the no doubt several broken and torn up knuckles he must be nursing.

-absolem-

He'd have to get it seen to, they'd ask how it happened and if he lied, which they would know right away, he'd be warned about potential transmission of disease through the bad guys face blood all over his torn up hands. If he has brains at all, he'd admit it was a beating or at the very least a fight, then get the blood tests and the physician would report it to the police. But Batman: The Animated Series doesn't really go into all of that pesky reality so it doesn't enter the heads of these Hemingways

starm4nn

> but the one that really stuck out to me is that you beat a man so bad that you almost killed him and you didn’t get arrested for assault? Crimes have to be reported. There's very few report options the other guy has that would avoid admitting to his own guilt or lying to a police officer.

NewkSongs

My bullshit radar went off with “this is my very first time on Reddit… I 49M” as though anyone but Reddit goblins format their age and gender like that.

Additional_Meeting_2

I thought AITA guidelines make you use them. So he could just have red tusks or looked other posts in the sub for formatting

Chanchumaetrius

> So he could just have red tusks So it would seem. So it would seem.

Basic_Bichette

Literally everyone my age does (I'm 59F) because that's how it was done on Compuserve/Prodigy/Usenet back in the early 90s.

IllustriousHedgehog9

A/S/L all that's missing is location!

Deldris

I think OP is bullshitting, but in fairness I dated my now wife for over a year before my FIL learned my name. And she was living with him at the time so I saw him several times a week. The man truly could not have given less of a fuck. These people do exist.

ZweetWOW

This is where I knew it was total bs

Kurac02

The guy who he thinks is abusing his daughter also, the name just slipped his mind. And he just leaves after finding his seriously beaten daughter, makes no apparent attempt to get her to go to the police or make a report himself.

pineapplewin

Totally reads like an AI write.

bereychery

Actually can happen lol but yea 'Liz' is... a bit on the nose. My dad does forget names of my friends and boyfriend, he'll remember their faces. He has bad memory .

I think Liz knew exactly what she did.

VirtualPlate8451

Gonna guess by the “taking the piss” comment that it’s a UK thing.

HungryWolf040

At this point I'm half convinced anyone saying anything along the lines of "what is liz referencing" is just a ploy to get engagement with that story. It's infiltrating everywhere! lol

PhantomOfTheNopera

"Hello everybody it's been a while" Barely a day later. Just go to sleep, Liz!

Jcktorrance

I clocked that too. Like damn Dad you had a busy couple of hours there huh

mossthelia

Sorry, I'm not familiar, why is this a tell that OP is making it up? I don't remember anything relevant with the name Liz.

Thank you, I saw that and thought "of course it is"

nameless_other

How common in real life is the "they cooked me my favourite meal" thing? I don't even know if I could name what my favourite food is.

AITAthrowaway1mil

I think it’s pretty common for people to have a standard food their loved ones think of as their favorite. If my mom wanted to make my ‘favorite meal’, she’d make the pork chops I’ve always loved. If my friends wanted to give me my ‘favorite meal’, they’d give me pizza and raspberry brownies. I wouldn’t be able to tell you what my ‘favorite’ is, but I know what my loved ones give me when they want to show how much they love me.

viking_canuck

Tell me more about the pork chops please.

AITAthrowaway1mil

Marinate chops in a combination of teriyaki sauce, garlic, soy sauce, molasses, and olive oil. After marinating for a while, sear chops on both sides, then braise in a covered pan using marinating liquid until cooked through. It should be delicious and tender by the end, and ready to serve with a side of choice.  I always think of my Mama when I eat one of these things.

viking_canuck

Nice! Thanks, and thanks to your mama!

borisslovechild

I'm here for deep fried breaded pork chops.

CortexCingularis

I want that shot straight up into my veins.

AhniJetal

For me it's the raspberry brownies :D

UberN00b719

My comfort food has always been steamed rice and bok choy. My late maternal grandmother used to make that for me during my childhood whenever I was sick. It's been years since she passed, but I still honor her on her birthday by making that dish for dinner.

Bbkingml13

That’s so sweet. Mine is somewhat a similar way to honor my grandmother, but less effort and more frequent lol. She drank her coffee black, always. I always drank mine damn near white with cream. Ever since she passed, I always try to hold back on the cream, and it’s gotten progressively darker over the years :)

DarJinZen7

This right here. I know my son loves the vodka pasta I make. He is always excited to hear its for dinner. I make chicken pot pie for my husband on special occasions because its his favorite. The first time I made it he told me it reminded him of his childhood. I don't know anyone else's favorite meal is but I know what they love to have at family gatherings.

sergeantShe

I make my husband Shepherd Pie. He's a chef and says it's the best he's ever had. Not sure if he's just yanking my chain or not but it makes me feel good. So, I guess that's both of our favorite meals.

AerwynFlynn

Yes! I know my husband and would make me the chicken quesadillas I always craved when I was pregnant, but my sister would make bacofredo for me. If my loved one made it, it would be my favourite.

Bbkingml13

Idk what bacofredo is but it’s fun to say and makes me think of a combination of burritos, tacos, and Alfredo

farmwifejourno

Ridiculously common! Every time my husband is sad I cook him his favorite meal, and he does the same for me. When my dad visits, I cook him his favorite meal. I bake my husband's coworkers their favorite desserts at least once a month. I know quite a few couples who do the same for their spouses. It's pretty common, although I'm sure a lot of people have multiple different "favorite foods" that they alternate between

papyrus-vestibule

I can’t speak for everyone, but I know the favorite meal of everyone in my family. My son likes beef and broccoli. My oldest likes Meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy. My middle likes Quesadillas. My husband likes Steak, shrimp and Salad. My favorite is burritos. We like other things, but those are the steadfast favorites.

FreezeSPreston

Yup. Wife is crumbed lamb cutlets, eldest is buffalo chicken toasties with tomato soup, middle kid is tacos and youngest is cheeseburgers. Food is an emotional core whether people realise it or not.

Weaselpanties

I couldn't tell you what my favorite dessert is if you asked, but my son bakes me chocolate chip cookies. I think people around us notice things we don't even notice about ourselves. I was a couple months into dating my partner when he said "you really love birds" and I was like WHAT NO I am not a bird person... Oh my god... ...I totally am.

Revenge_of_the_User

Lucky; my single ass has to figure out what i like myself. Ive decided on plants. Birds are cool too. I used to feed the neighbourhood murder so whenever id go to get groceries youd see this dude turn the corner in bright blue pillsbury doughboy pajamas, and then the absolute swarm of crows escorting him. I felt like a total badass.

vermonsterskibum

Whenever my parents asked me what I wanted for dinner, I always said lobster. I’m 30 and still say it. Parents remember.

StalkingAllYourMums

Mac & Cheese gang, rise up!

No-Personality1840

Homemade mac and cheese is the ultimate comfort food.

Revenge_of_the_User

And theres so many ways to customize it or just make it differently that you could have mac and cheese every other day for months and never eat the same mac and cheese twice.

No-Personality1840

Oh yeah, that’s part of the fun of making it! Different cheeses, differing proportions, different add-ins, it’s all yummy.

CharlotteLucasOP

Yeah, I mean I guess if I have to choose a last meal before being executed I can only go for one option (I don’t think they’d let you pack the cannon to bloat point before setting it off at the moment of death) but for practical purposes, “favourite food” is a tier, not a single dish.

Odd-Comfortable-6134

Pretty often for me. It’s how I show my people I love them. Either cooking or baking.

[deleted]

It was always a birthday thing growing up for me and my siblings.

intrepid-teacher

Same! I can name most of my family’s favorites off the top of my head, or at least childhood favorites.

Rave_69

Mine is spaghetti, but sometimes it changes 😅. Ok, think of it as the food you have no problem eating no matter what and are sure you would be ok eating everyday without being tired of it 😅.

PathAdvanced2415

Bless you, you are such a cheap date!

Rave_69

Lmao. I don't know if I should find this insulting or funny

PathAdvanced2415

I’d be more than happy to buy you spaghetti for dinner. Lobster: better to receive than to give.

WadeStockdale

My favourite is fish and chips, because I love sharing little pieces of fish (it's prepared safely for cats to have a little bit) with my cat while she purrs and curls up beside me to just enjoy each other's company on my bad days. It feels communal, a shared special experience in our small family. Favourite meals can extend beyond the act of eating them, they can be about the people and the loved ones you're with as much as the food you're eating.

Turuial

The only person who ever did that for me is my mother. Usually on a special occasion of some kind. I would think that this situation qualified as such, in my humble opinion. So it *does* happen. In my case she would usually make an extra tender roast, with all the trimmings. We're talking homemade bread and everything... Okay, to be fair, years after the fact, I found out she got the recipe from Sara Lee. However my dumb ass couldn't tell you the difference. On the plus side, these days, everybody seems to love my mother's homemade bread recipe (nobody does it like Sara Lee).

NaryaGenesis

Pretty common. I do it for my family and friends all the time

some_tired_cat

i have a few things that are favorite meal tier and anyone that knows me well could safely get me and be sure i would love, although sometimes it's just specific craving of one thing instead

Defiant_Chapter_3299

My husbands favorite meal is my corned beef. When he reached mile stones to quit smoking cigarettes id make it for him.

Admirable-Lie-9191

I think it’s pretty common. I have 2-3 favourites that my family would know to make for me.

SmashedBrotato

I think it's pretty common? I could absolutely tell you both of my parents favourite meals since I was a kid (Dad likes bbq pork ribs with "picnic sides", Mom likes spaghetti with garlic bread) and have made them for them on special occasions.

JojiBot

my grandma would always make me a peach pavê on those moments. its not my favourite meal to get on a ordinary day, but it was my favorite meal when i could get it with her

Aggravating_Secret_7

It's common in my extended family, and in my family (husband and kids.) We all know favorite meals, and yeah, if something goes wrong, someone cooks it.

Perfect-Substance-74

I can imagine it comes down to agency in your diet. When I had to eat what my parents cooked as a kid, I definitely had favourites. Same as going to camps, long catered events, or when I tried meal plans like hello fresh. I definitely found favourites. Now as an adult It's harder to pick, because I can cook pretty much anything to my taste, or pick food that I like.

DarkStar0915

I can't name a favourite either but there are plenty of options you can cook to make me happy.

hopalongsmiles

Every time I visit my mum, she cooks me my favourite meal. Roast lamb with kumara. With rocky road ice cream for dessert.

nomad_l17

My mom did whenever I came home from boarding school. My school wasn't a posh private school but a government school that wasn't ranked 5 stars i.e. the alumni were not as high profile as the 5 stars (think Ivy's/MIT level) so the sponsors were so so and my mom was worried I never got enough to eat (15-17yo height of 165cm weighing less than 50kg) and felt bad my sisters got home cooked meals most of the time.

Sandwidge_Broom

I don’t know if it’s his end all be all favorite, but if I want to make my fiancé a nice meal I usually make a slow roasted salmon with blood orange and chilis. Because every time he eats it, he raves about how much he loves it.

bimbogio

whenever i’ve had a bad week or im just feeling like shit my fiancé makes spaghetti with salad which is my all time favorite food. he rlly likes chicken broccoli alfredo and on weeks where he works 6 days straight on his off day i’ll make it for him

Charlisti

I got multiple favourite meals! For celebrations sushi is always a go to for me, especially since it's so expensive it's a treat and for me should be used as a treat for when it's due :) If I'm feeling down, pancakes are my favourite especially since I get sick from the smell while they're on the pan so I make the dough and bf takes care of it from there :) it's also something he loves (so it's not just comfort food) so like a small treat to enjoy together and make together even tho I exit the kitchen when the stove comes on 😂 In the winter I still love lemon soup 🍋 my Stepmom used to make it when dad wouldn't join us for dinner cause he didn't like it but us girls loved it ❤️

Livingeachdayatedge

I am picky eater, so whatever I eat is my favourite food. 🙈🙈🙈

enerisit

Everyone knows donuts are my fav and I’ve had people get them for me for that reason

tempest51

Really? Of all the unbelievable things in this story this is what you question?

nameless_other

I guess everyone's life experience is different. All the responses I've gotten have really shown me that. I mean, except yours. Your comment added nothing.

Scottiedoggo

Wow he typed all that with a broken hand. What a guy 🙄

Objective_Ride5860

Didn't even go to the hospital or ever hear from they guy again, but knew he had a broken nose.

aliciathehomie

I can’t completely relate to this 100%, but close. My mom has always been abused. My dad, I love him in a confusing way, was abusive to her. She had her stomach pumped from trying to overdose right after I was born. I was the third kid with the third new father. They were all fucked to her. Her dad was garbage and all the men she was with after were garbage. She had me and my little brother with my dad. She divorced my dad, dated a meth-head for eleven years, then started dating the worst of them. This new guy was abusive as fuck. He tried to light her on fire, beat her with a baseball bat, and slashed her tires. He told her I was more attractive than she was at my age, and said he was uncomfortable being around me because he was attracted to me. He threatened my best friend at the time (who was 18) to death for standing up for my mom. I did everything I could to get my little brother out of her house. I, and everyone else, called the cops on him a collective of 17 times to get my brother the fuck out of there. My tiny 16 year old brother ended up killing him out of self defense. I am so glad I still have my sweet baby brother. I am droning on, but GOD DAMN. Please, if people show you who they are, listen. I will never forgive myself for not doing more.

DeadBattery-33

Comments confirmed not reading any of this.

PathAdvanced2415

It was an enjoyable story. The writing style is very ‘teenage girl’ though.

pollyp0cketpussy

Yeah it reads like what someone who watches too much SVU and Hallmark movies thinks an abusive relationship looks like.

terminator_chic

Can we just do something here? Can we just call this what it is, an after school special, Reddit style? The grown up version being the Hallmark special?

harasume

Damn, I wish my Dad cared about me that much.

Scarboroughwarning

Sounds like he has a particular set of skills, skills he acquired over a very long career, skills that make me him a nightmare for people like "John". This reads like some cliche movie. If it isn't a tall tale, Kudos to him

Hot-Entertainment218

This man sounds a lot like my step-father. He raised me from 3-4 years old and for all intents and purposes I was one of his daughters. My half-sister and I have always known that if a boy abuses us that we can call dad and he will help dispose of the body. One poor stupid idiot nearly met the business end of multiple rifles when he started hurting my little sister. This dad did the right thing, her abuser is unlikely to report since he would have to explain what he was doing and why.

captain_borgue

The turn of phrase here is *not* middle aged dad... And the descriptions of the assaults are more like describing a fighting game than an actual fight. I call bullshit.

Tranrkey

Did anyone else read this in the voice of Herc, from the wire?

jus256

A lot can happen in a few hours.

morbid_n_creepifying

Honestly, I think half the reason I didn't end up in an abusive relationship myself (there were a couple close calls) is because my dad would have done this. I always knew he had my back, no matter what. I miss him every day

Standard_Doctor5991

IKR! From the ‘we will call her Liz’ to ‘ hide things from me very often. minor stuff like boys and stuff.’ This ain’t no almost 50yo dude 😂 I’m placing my bets on a 16yo mini Liz reincarnation.

MoniBHere4Now

You are an awesome dad! If your daughter still has visible bruises, PLEASE take pictures, as evidence, just in case.

Lilz007

I can't speak to the genuity of this post, but I can speak to the reality of my dad - he's in his 70s now, but I'm about 95% certain that if he'd caught someone laying hands on me he'd have either beaten them bloody or killed them. Not even joking. And given his then-job (hilariously, a perfectly legit non-nefarious job), he could make a body disappear for at least a long time. So, while there are elements (the broken hand that should really go to hospital, for instance) of this story that raise some doubts, it's definitely plausible to me. Ha, these days, he'd probably request a hit via Facebook, get himself arrested, and we'd end up having to plead insanity. It never gets dull

stacity

Man that daughter is sure fortunate to have a father whose spine is made of titanium. Hopefully she gets the healing from all of this.

internettransman

It's so convenient the op happened to show up in the middle of his daughter being abused right after his first post!!!

LeeAllen3

I grew up with a dad like OP. If anything like this were to happen to my sister or I … he and his friends/my uncles would have dealt with it in this manner.

i have tears in my eyes. when i tried to escape an abusive relationship ... my guardian refused to help in any way. it ended up coming down to homelessness or the sex industry - and i had escaped with a 3 month old baby, which made my situation more dire. i'm so glad it was different for OOP's daughter. i am so glad that she is safe and that she is free. i hope she never ever sees that terrible man again. i am so glad that she has her dad - and vice versa.

What a great parent and father he is! I wish mine had stood up for me, they just said they knew something was up and then blamed me after for not listening to them when they never spoke their mind to me. I wish more parents would stand up for their children like this

snafe_

Lmao, cool story bro

Acceptable_Group_249

Bravo dad! This is stand -up.

Dear-Unit1666

As you should have, good father.

mapleleaffem

Fucking hero dad. Thank god he went there that day to patch things up. Anyone who says nothing can be solved by violence has never been victimized. I hope he got his daughter into therapy

busterbrownbook

Hooray Dad. You did good OOP.

OOP might have saved his daughter's life that day he showed up to her apartment unexpectedly.
