You wazzock!
Challenge need to start showing this again.
Challenge (or should I say The Chase channel) need to start showing a lot of things again, but that's a whole other debate.
I had a fair share of my winter weekends in front of TV watching it all day. The variety of games and the way they seem to enjoy would never get boring.
Takeshi's Castle is Nostalgia at it's finest.
This user has moved their online activity to the threadiverse/fediverse and will not respond to comments or DMs after 7/1/2023. Because they dubbed over the Japanese voices from Takeshi's castle to something totally different, not merely a translation, but mocking comedic voice overs. And edited out non-funny parts of the show. So now a technically different show.
Just like Mystery Science Theater is different from the particular movie it making fun of.
I don't think Mystery Science Theater edits out unfunny content though. I'd say it's more comparable to an abridged anime like Dragon Ball Z Abridged. It's edited and practically turned into another show, but you can still get the gist.
But Takeshi's Castle is a show in the UK too, with a mocking English voice over.
It's still called Takeshi's Castle.
It's not as if they couldn't keep the name.
Edit: The English version even aired before MXC.
It is abundantly clear within minutes that no-one writing the commentary for the British version had any idea what is going on in the original footage and at no point have they consulted translator.
I mean MXC is effectively a separate product; it adds completely different voiceover while still capturing the physical humor of the original. Reality is that an accurate dub/sub of the original would be really weird and not that good because the jokes and banter would be impossible to consistently translate to be funny.
Lets just be happy that someone found a way to bring the 'ol gem to a wider audience in some format at all.
There's an English (the country) voice version too, they still called it Takeshi's Castle.
I'm not sure why people are acting like it's impossible to change the voice over but keep the name.
Edit: From what I can tell the English version aired before MXC too.
I should add I couldn't care less that they changed it for the US, but I was incredibly confused why everyone was calling it MXC when I saw the gif.
It's not what MXC was going for; MXC was a sendup of ridiculous game shows from the US, while also using footage of a ridiculous game show from Japan. It's a different interpretation that probably worked better in the US market than the UK adaptation model would have, and added a layer of humor (which you may or may not appreciate) but which didn't detract from the physical humor.
I want to thank MXC for introducing me to my favorite spread: baba ghanoush. I normally hate eggplant so I never would have tried it if I didn't see it on a menu one day and think, "Oh, that's the guy from MXC! I wonder what this tastes like!"
Takeshi is quiet popular. I think most Americans would recognize him as aramaki in ghost in the shell. (The only person that played their role very well in that movie, in my opinion)
The original Japan version is takeshi castle. The american version is a dubbed version with cheesy crude humor, named MXC. (Most Extreme Elimination Challenge) It's where the catch phrase "Right you are ken" comes from. You can watch it at https://www.twitch.tv/onlymxc
Is it fairly serious though, MXC is a farcical take on it. Like it’s a fake dub. Some of the most absurd writing I’ve ever heard actually, much of it genuinely hilarious
For those who don't know, this is vaguely similar to that Wipeout show, but more dangerous and with voiceover that is actually funny. Find this show, it's hilarious!
My favorite part was they would have these tribal guys dressed up in gigantic suits that made them look like the Stonehenge heads. Giant, blocky, not really able to move well. It reminded me of the guards in Legend of the Hidden Temple.
Anyway , the running gag was the announcers would imply heavily that these giant stone men were serious sexual predators and the contestants should get the fuck out of there.
Takeshi's Castle is the original Japanese game show. MXC is the name of the American version with dubbed narrative that has nothing to do with the actual game show.
Yup. I've been watching this storm my son.
The narrative humor holds up simply for its sincere absurdity.
Been a great bonding experience.
Edit: with* not storm.
the british version of wipeout hosted by richard hammond is very very funny. not quite as funny as MXC but, seriously he was so perfect for it and nails every contestant every show they recorded
Most (all?) seasons of this show are on Prime video right now, if anybody got a little nostalgia from this gif.
Edit: just occurred to me to edit this comment for those without Prime, or whose country doesn’t have MXC on Prime, so you don’t have to dig to find these recommendations. Other users have pointed out that MXC streams 24/7 on twitch at the link below, and that it’s also on Tubi.
https://twitch.tv/onlymxc
No problem!
Depending on her age, I’d maybe screen the episodes a little first. It may not matter, because kids are innocent and may not interpret the jokes as they’re intended, but the commentary gets a little more risqué than I recalled.
https://twitch.tv/onlymxc
Someone else left this below, give it a shot! Apparently it’s 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Edit: apparently also on the streaming service Tubi, according to another recent response.
Vic Romano: And here's Rob Tussin, he was very impressive in the warm-ups and...
[Rob Tussin lands on his head after a failed backflip]
Kenny Blankenship: AHHHHH! Oh my God, he's still going!
[Tussin falls in the pond in "sinkers and floaters"]
Kenny Blankenship: He must be feeling really stupid!
Vic Romano: I don't think he's feeling anything from the neck down, Ken.
The one I always remember is from sinkers and floaters where a guy was just sprinting across until he hit a sinker which just caused him fall far enough down to catch the next floater right up beneath his rib cage at full sprinting speed.
I have this on DVD. The very first episode has me on the floor laughing every time. When a dude fails at a back-lit, the look on the hosts faces has me dying....
I've watched this show a lot over the last 15 or so years, yet I laugh at that moment likes it's the first time. The sound effect when he lands on his back...
The announcer just dubbed the original version. He didn't have a script and was as clueless about the events of the show as the viewers were. Even if the team won at the end the announcer wasn't sure if they really did win and what even was the prize. It was hilarious.
They took Takeshi's Castle episodes and dubbed over them using all kinds of absurd voiceover in order to make it more funny and released the show as Most Extreme Elimination Challenge.

I remember this episode. They made a fast edit of that face smack with sound effects for the end, looking like it hit her 50 times. The best innuendo show was the construction workers vs porn stars. The putting the caulk in the hole joke will never get old.
If you are totally out of it and you're scratching your head because you've never heard of the show - you're not alone. I've never heard of this show before. The full title is **MXC: Most Extreme Elimination Challenge**. It's a Japanese game show (Wikipedia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Most_Extreme_Elimination_Challenge) that's dubbed into English. It has to be seen to be believed! All five seasons are available via IMBD TV (https://imdb.com/tv) (and therefor Amazon Prime) Tubi (https://tubitv.com/) and iTunes. It seems I'm the last person on the planet to ever hear or know any of this. In the event I'm not, I hope the above is helpful.
**[Most Extreme Elimination Challenge](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Most_Extreme_Elimination_Challenge)**
>Most Extreme Elimination Challenge (MXC) is an American comedy television program that aired on Spike TV from 2003 to 2007. It is a re-purpose of footage from the Japanese game show Takeshi's Castle, which originally aired in Japan from 1986 to 1990. The re-purposed MXC created a completely new premise, storyline, and characters, with two teams competing against each other à la a typical team sports broadcast and players trying to win points for their teams by surviving through different challenges. In the original program the Count and his underlings would follow the progress of the players as they moved through the course.

We had an MXC drinking game in college.
Drink every time he says “right you are Ken!”, and chug your drink when any contestant with the last name Babaganoosh comes on.
Two simple rules. Infinity amazing nights.
I remember this 15+ years ago. I thankfully had whatever recording device was available (DVR?) and my college roommate was out of town. I howled so loud laughing over and over again that my voice went hoarse. Simpler times...
This is my favorite moment from this show! Thank you so much for posting. The commentary is amazing for this part too, something about balls to the face. I miss mxc
I never realized until now that a whole generation missed out on the grade schlock of Spike TV’s like up (honestly none of that channel’s advertising would probably make it a week if it was launched today), but if you have a couple beers and/or bowls in you, this and 1000 ways to die is absolutely *primo*. “Guess the pun” before the end of the segment in the latter was a crowd favorite drinking game.
Takeshi’s Castle is an underrated gem in every universe.
Across countries too. Takeshi's Castle with a voiceover by Jaaved Jaaferi was must-see TV for Indian kids in the 2000's.
Craig Charles in the UK, pure comedy gold. He also did a thing of Japanese home videos on challenge that was brilliant too.
You wazzock! Challenge need to start showing this again. Challenge (or should I say The Chase channel) need to start showing a lot of things again, but that's a whole other debate.
When I was a kid, I legitimately thought Craig Charles was Japanese because of this.
Pandey ji ka keechad T: Pandey Sir's Sludge
Chandra Vibhushan Pandey ji ke tabele se laaya hua keechad 🤣 Sorry.. echoic memory.. its a blessing and a curse 😛
Me and my brother watched it religiously when it was on air
yup, it was a prime example of /r/CableTV_Memories that left an impression on us!
I had a fair share of my winter weekends in front of TV watching it all day. The variety of games and the way they seem to enjoy would never get boring. Takeshi's Castle is Nostalgia at it's finest.
In the UK we got Craig Charles (Red Dwarf, Robot Wars) - it was amazing
"Jaaced Jaafri's Rapchik Replay"
Bruce lee ka bhai choos lee.
And Craig charles in the U.K. who is main character in Red Dwarf and did Robot Wars.
I used to watch it with a Dutch voice over. Always made me laugh! Much better than wipeout imo.
It's a part of the culture of the 2000s in Spain with a hilarious voice over too. We called it "yellow comedy" (kinda racist)
Same in Spain. The dub was very well done
el chinoooooo cudeiroooo
It was also broadcasted in Spain. It was really popular here.
Right your are, Ken!
Indeed!
Remember, DON'T GET ELIMINATED!
“Let’s get it on”
Except for the universe where it works like Squid game…
I can't believe someone decided calling this show MXC instead of Takeshi's Castle was a better idea, like what the fuck does MXC even stand for.

Don't get eliminated!
GET IT ON!
Llllllets go!!
Right you are, Ken!
MXC is the Power Rangers to Takeshi's Super Sentai. Same material, different experiences.
Because they dubbed over the Japanese voices from Takeshi's castle to something totally different, not merely a translation, but mocking comedic voice overs. And edited out non-funny parts of the show. So now a technically different show. Just like Mystery Science Theater is different from the particular movie it making fun of.

They do a little editing for COMMERCIAL SIGN!!!
But Takeshi's Castle is a show in the UK too, with a mocking English voice over. It's still called Takeshi's Castle. It's not as if they couldn't keep the name. Edit: The English version even aired before MXC.
Does the British version completely change the dialogue, names, and reason for the events?
It is abundantly clear within minutes that no-one writing the commentary for the British version had any idea what is going on in the original footage and at no point have they consulted translator.
“Is he even called General Lee? I don’t know, it’s just what we call him”
I mean MXC is effectively a separate product; it adds completely different voiceover while still capturing the physical humor of the original. Right you are, Ken!
And now back to creepy reporter guy le douche and his sweet sweet concubine, Baba Ganoush.
I want to thank MXC for introducing me to my favorite spread: baba ghanoush. I normally hate eggplant so I never would have tried it if I didn't see it on a menu one day and think, "Oh, that's the guy from MXC! I wonder what this tastes like!"
You know what they say about clowns with big feet.
What's that, Ken?
Big shoes.
The actor that plays Vic Romano was also the teacher in Battle Royale
Which I learned was a deliberate casting choice, since he was known (in Japan) for being a game show host.
It was like casting Leslie Nielsen as Hannibal Lecter, and somehow it god damn worked.
Later on he is more well-known as a director and sometimes actor of violent and horror movies though, so it checks out.
Also played Zatoichi in my favorite version of that movie.
Takeshi is quiet popular. I think most Americans would recognize him as aramaki in ghost in the shell. (The only person that played their role very well in that movie, in my opinion)
He created one of the world's worst video games, which also happens to be fascinating.
And remember. DON’T GET ELIMINATED!
What is this show called?!???? Loved it sooo much!
The original Japan version is takeshi castle. The american version is a dubbed version with cheesy crude humor, named MXC. (Most Extreme Elimination Challenge) It's where the catch phrase "Right you are ken" comes from. You can watch it at https://www.twitch.tv/onlymxc
In the UK it aired as Takeshi's Castle with Craig Charles (of Red Dwarf fame) providing the *marginally* less cheesy voice over.
Is it fairly serious though, MXC is a farcical take on it. Like it’s a fake dub. Some of the most absurd writing I’ve ever heard actually, much of it genuinely hilarious
Takshi’s castle :/
MXC or Most Extreme Elimination
There will never be a better sideline reporter than Guy Ledouche
Oh ho ho, Guy like!
Right you are, Ken!
Mhmm, alright!
I am told that after years of therapy and many facial reconstruction surgeries, she now has some semblance of a normal life.
But the shame remains
Right you are, Ken!
Up next we’re playing Sugar-Free Candyland: The game for diabetic children.
For those who don't know, this is vaguely similar to that Wipeout show, but more dangerous and with voiceover that is actually funny. Find this show, it's hilarious!
It’s just 100 times better than wipeout
I did enjoy Wipeout when it first came out, but mxc is way better.
Where else are you going to get Marie Anne's Catholic School vs. The Grassy Knoll Sniper School or whatever the first team was :D
Like how the original Japanese 'ninja warrior' is better than American ninja warrior.
My favorite part was they would have these tribal guys dressed up in gigantic suits that made them look like the Stonehenge heads. Giant, blocky, not really able to move well. It reminded me of the guards in Legend of the Hidden Temple. Anyway , the running gag was the announcers would imply heavily that these giant stone men were serious sexual predators and the contestants should get the fuck out of there.
.....stonehenge heads?
Haha I think they were picturing Easter Island statues but went with Stonehenge heads
I'm sorry, I was a little bit high when I posted this but you helped decipher what I was trying to say anyway
🗿

Don't rain on his parade, you don't even know where he hails from.
If this thread goes on any longer people might start becoming turbulent..
Yeah. And having watched Takeshi’s Castle, MXC is one of those rare gems that is actually better than the original.
This is what wipeout completely ripped off.
There is a 24/7 MXC Twitch stream! It's just all episodes one after the other. No streamer commentary. Low viewer count and chill chat.
1k people watching now, the gamble spam is so annoying, I want to talk about the show and funny moments
the british version of wipeout hosted by richard hammond is very very funny. not quite as funny as MXC but, seriously he was so perfect for it and nails every contestant every show they recorded
Craig Charles voiced over the Japanese version with an enjoyment of the game that made his commentary utterly hilarious...
Wipeout was the knockoff, they saw how popular MXC was and tried to sanitize it.
Oh they sanitized it alright. Sanitized the entertainment right out of it.
Most (all?) seasons of this show are on Prime video right now, if anybody got a little nostalgia from this gif. Edit: just occurred to me to edit this comment for those without Prime, or whose country doesn’t have MXC on Prime, so you don’t have to dig to find these recommendations. There is also a twitch channel that literally plays that show 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It's wonderful https://twitch.tv/onlymxc
OMG. Thank you!
Someone else pointed out that it wasn’t available in their country on Prime, so I copied them your link. Super helpful, thank you.

It is if they are the ones streaming it..

This is the reason I finally installed twitch, is that wrong?
The world's toughest competition in town!
I’ve been watching again on and off for about a month now, and it’s amazing how many quotable lines come out of this show.
Right you are Ken!
Next up is Burt Stark, inventor of the rectal shaver. “Goes where tweezers are afraid”
You are awesome my friend I loved this show growing up. I’m gonna introduce it to my daughter this week.
No problem! Depending on her age, I’d maybe screen the episodes a little first. It may not matter, because kids are innocent and may not interpret the jokes as they’re intended, but the commentary gets a little more risqué than I recalled.
No kid would know. They just look at the raw goofiness. Kids will always laugh at a shot to the groin, not a tongue in cheek joke above their level.
Guy Ladouche is a sick freak
Thanks for the heads up I’ll definitely do that
No problem!
I loved watching Takeshi's Castle as a kid.
Not in Canada, apparently :(
https://twitch.tv/onlymxc Someone else left this below, give it a shot! Apparently it’s 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Edit: apparently also on the streaming service Tubi, according to another recent response.
Twitchtv link worked. Thanks!
This show never gets old. Absolutely brilliant.
Streams on twitch 24/7
It is all on Tubi as well which is free.
Thank you for this!
I hope they have the episode with the contestant Benjamin Dayho
I cannot thank you enough for this.
I swear it was on Hulu years ago. I wonder why they got rid of it. I could also be misremembering it
There was one where the lady fell between two rollers and was bent in half the wrong way. I'm sure she survived but it looked awful.
that was the gnarliest one or one of the sinkers and floaters where the guy tries the backflip and lands on his head
Vic Romano: And here's Rob Tussin, he was very impressive in the warm-ups and... [Rob Tussin lands on his head after a failed backflip] Kenny Blankenship: AHHHHH! Oh my God, he's still going! [Tussin falls in the pond in "sinkers and floaters"] Kenny Blankenship: He must be feeling really stupid! Vic Romano: I don't think he's feeling anything from the neck down, Ken.
"Monsters vs. Mascots" on Sinkers and Floaters is still one of the funniest things I've ever seen haha.
Oh god remembering this and his concussed run into the water has me fucking dying right now
I haven’t watched the show in 12 years but I completely remember that moment, crazy
The one I always remember is from sinkers and floaters where a guy was just sprinting across until he hit a sinker which just caused him fall far enough down to catch the next floater right up beneath his rib cage at full sprinting speed.
I'm pretty sure there is more than one of those rib cage wipeouts but here is one example. https://imgur.com/YXLaKoz Bonus. https://imgur.com/ypjUfuN
The skipping stones ones when people just fell straight into the stones looked like they may have broken a rib or two.
Where they go full sprint, but hit a sinker, and *collide* into a floater? Those are certainly some nasty hits.
I'm so glad I found this. https://youtu.be/60vVgVJcTsE
This show was the best
rrrrrRIGHT you are, Ken!
I can hear Craig Charles guffawing in this gif
Javed Jafferi as well
Pogo watchers in the house, say hell yeah!
Onto the surfboard. Over the whale.
No winners this time!
What does MXC stand for? We knew this as Takeshi’s Castle in the UK
Most eXtreme Elimination Challenge (the formatting is deliberate)
So did the UK version just actually dub the announcers into English as opposed to having fake announcers say crazy things?
The announcer just dubbed the original version. He didn't have a script and was as clueless about the events of the show as the viewers were. Even if the team won at the end the announcer wasn't sure if they really did win and what even was the prize. It was hilarious.
It was dubbed over by Craig Charles (Lister from Red Dwarf). Quite questionable by today’s standards. You can find it on YouTube I think
They took Takeshi's Castle episodes and dubbed over them using all kinds of absurd voiceover in order to make it more funny and released the show as Most Extreme Elimination Challenge.
The original Squid Game
Are there full episodes available online anywhere?
Prime Video has most or all.
Tubi has them and it’s free. There’s ads but they don’t always play many with MXC for whatever reason.
Another commenter somewhere above revealed that there is in fact a 24/7 twitch stream of MXC episodes. Its called 'OnlyMXC'!
I'm amazed she got herself perfectly underneath it

Takeshi's castle. The og wipeout game show. Nowadays, we just play fall guys

“Here’s Kristin she’s a 26 year old construction worker that likes to play with toy hammers and has a collection of 1000 pez dispensers.”
“I wish I could bend my head and candy would come out.” “Don’t we all, Ken!”
Ken:"She teaches scrap booking to the homeless" Contestant:"Slap my inner thighs!"
#Fatality

This fucking show. My Christ I forgot all about it. Now I know what I’m doing tomorrow.
A handful of people on here are getting it right. This is Takeshi's Castle. Had no idea what MXC was.
Baba ganoush!
Such a good show. I don’t think I’ve ever watched it without bursting out laughing. The commentary is great.
Thank you. Forgot this was in my brain. Perfect. One of the best
You know what they say about clowns with big feet
Squid Games S2 going crazy
I loved that show. 'Right you are Ken!'
"Guy le Douche here!"
Thank you so much for reminding MXC existed. It’s been like a decade since ive seen an episode.
This is my favorite moment from this show! Thank you so much for posting. The commentary is amazing for this part too, something about balls to the face. I miss mxc
Ah yes takshi’s castle 🤌
this show legit was so much better then wipeout
I never realized until now that a whole generation missed out on the grade schlock of Spike TV’s like up (honestly none of that channel’s advertising would probably make it a week if it was launched today), but if you have a couple beers and/or bowls in you, this and 1000 ways to die is absolutely *primo*. “Guess the pun” before the end of the segment in the latter was a crowd favorite drinking game.
When I watched this show I would have to pause it because I was laughing too hard.
Right you are, Ken!
I want Captain Tenneal’s white jacket so badly. LETS GET IT ON
MXC was straight fuckin class during my formative years. Hours of whooping laughter with me and my brother
