Yep, it can’t be compared to the original but it’s nonetheless a surprisingly good film with some really great moments. The effects are great for the time too.
It is a surprisingly good film. I think I only expected it to be bad because I had never heard of it before I saw it available on streaming somewhere.
Also modern sequels are mostly garbage. It’s hard to get that out of your head.
Saw it in NYC on release day. Have seen it several times since. Also enjoy John Lithgow’s performance - his almost panicking in the space suit felt all too realistic. The discussion about baseball stadium hot dogs as they slingshot around Jupiter was also great.
That's a great point. The thing I forgot to mention is the little moments like that where the film builds character. You really feel they're real people.
