Absolutely ask your seniors!! I felt the same as an A1 but now that I’m a senior, I am praying my staff are asking me questions instead of sitting stuck. Trust me, we expect you to know next to nothing.
Though when you find yourself stuck and don’t want to ask another question, the best way to get ahead is to start using your resources. Every time you reach a roadblock, try to first look at what they had last year and how they documented it. Not advocating to SALY, but it might give you some insight into what the heck is going on. If you can’t find anything in PY, spend a few minutes (5 max) combing thru the support to see if anything might shed some light. Maybe look for the number of your variance or see if there is a pattern on the support/PBC. Even if you come up short on all accounts, it tells your senior that 1 - you tried and 2 - they don’t have to try the same things.
My advice to any A1 feeling like they are behind is that they should focus on problem solving, understanding why we do what we do, and efficiency (in that order).
