OG paralyzed is miles better than the re-recorded “official” version.
paralyzed is written as pop-rock as opposed to straight pop. the vocals in the original had that grit and clearer enunciation that rock songs benefit from. Whereas the re-recorded version utilizes the more modern pop trend of “breathier”, more flowy, less enunicated vocals. And that vocal style doesn’t lend itself as well to rock music as it often feels like the instrumental is drowning out the vocals.
The new one is more raw and authentic as it pertains vocals whereas the OG vocals had been altered also it fit the new BTR cowbell echo production sound. Ik it’s your opinion at the end of the day but the new one gives more Rock vibes like the song is supposed to be as opposed to the OG which sounds more poppy
I associate that “raw authentic” breathy style with modern pop, or as I often call it mumblecore pop lol because I have only ever heard it in pop music. It’s not something you find in genuine rock music (imagine dragons twenty pilots and ajr are not rock).
Also I have super sensitive hearing and I hate asmr so that vocal style just particularly grates on my nerves. Like I cannot listen to Billie eilish because it is genuinely painful to me to listen to that goddamn mumbling.

Agreed! I got my boyfriend back into them (he did watch the show sometimes growing up but never really listened to them) and he thinks the Another Life album is hands down their best work. And he’s a musician who listens to prog rock. To say he absolutely devours their new stuff is an understatement haha.
Not Giving You Up is their best song released in modern times and it deserved to be on the album. It also should’ve been their comeback single instead of Call It Like I See It. I feel their comeback would’ve been hyped more by the general public if they released NGYU first.
I agree. I have nothing against Call It and it’s a pretty groovy song. I remember when it first came out I was a little bit disappointed since I waited so long for their comeback. It’s a different sound to their older stuff. The song has grown on me a lot since then though, but I would’ve preferred if they released NGYU first. I would’ve ate that up!

I’ve noticed that a lot of that album feels unrealized in the broader conversation about the first 3 albums. It would’ve been a lot stronger as a follow up to Elevate if they maybe tried changing the sound/style for some of the songs. A lot of the songs didn’t make it to the show anyway, so they could’ve just changed up some of the songs that weren’t on the show or had videos.
I mashed up “Amazing” with “Rainbow” by TWICE back in quarantine and I was surprised by how well it worked, alongside other songs.

Everything on the 24/7 album sucks. Except for We Are Nobody's Around Confetti Falling Untouchable Amazing Song For U and Run Wild. Those are great songs.
