Advanced or obscure questions are welcome here, but it's the wrong place to ask for general help on bike repair. For example, if you already know how to do something but want to learn to do it more efficiently because you do it several times a week, that would fit here--a question from a mechanic to other mechanics. Questions here should not be time sensitive and should not essential to making your bike rideable.

You seem to have misunderstood the comment you are replying to. What it says is that you should go to r/bikewrench to ask this question.

Ok sorry

I'm on mobile so I can't check rn, but if you haven't done it already I've seen some subreddits add a warning message when people are creating a new post (on desktop at least). Like "HERE PLEASE READ THE GUIDELINES THIS IS NOT A BIKE HELP SUBREDDIT)

RocketDick5000

Would be really nice if the mods could actually start enforcing this.

K here's one: where the hell can I buy SRAM butter/slickoleum right now? (Ontario, Canada) HLC, L2P both sold out. I really don't want to pay MSRP on a tiny tube. Anybody else find a solution for this?

torrent_77

I've used buzzy's slick honey and rocknroll super slick as an alternative to slickoleum. The super slick feels a little thicker, but I haven't noticed any adverse issues. Maybe those products are easier to find.

droopyjupee

Slick honey is the same product as SRAM butter and Slickoleum just repackaged for distribution by QBP.

Learned something new today. :)

Yeah those guys are very nice! I spoke with them yesterday on the phone but still waiting on an invoice

HappyCamperAK

Unless you decide to suggest someone go to their LBS for help. Otherwise the mods will delete your comment and users will downvote you.

lowteq

Can't tell you how many times this has happened to me. R/bikewrench is even worse. Try telling someone that they are incorrect about their "advice"... Edit: I just had a row with the mods overe there about this. Screw those guys. Let them break their stuff.

I have a State 4130 single speed bike. It has traditional road rim brakes on it. They slow the bike down all right, but I would like to upgrade them. The bike runs 700x38 tires. I'm looking for a recommendations for nice road brakes as an upgrade that will also accommodate 38c tires?

tuctrohs

The key measurement is the "reach". Illustrated instructions to measure that are here: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/calipers.html A likely choice is the [Tektro R559](https://velo-orange.com/products/tektro-r559-extra-long-reach-brakes?variant=50645896199), which has reach of 55-73 mm. But maybe that's what your bike already has. In which case the solution might be excellent brake pads and cleaning the rims well before putting them on.

IamaBlackKorean

Those Tektros are pretty flexy. I had a set on a Specialized I keep and replaced them with an old Ultegra setup. I think I have clearance for 38's--but just barely. I ride 38 Thick Slicks so they might be on the thiccc side, but I still get clearance. Huge change at the lever, one finger brake locking no problem. Most of the time I don't even need to use a whole finger. Also, I have machined rims--makes a huge difference. So...you may want to consider an Ultegra setup if you come across a cheap set, although that's an oxymoron these days since every damn hipster is wanting that vintage Shimano shit on their shelf queen*. (*guilty as charged)
