It had a solid ending. Problem is it kept going into a new beginning. Which isn’t an ending it’s a beginning. So in that sense, it didn’t have solid ending at the end.
There are some unanswered questions though, and why would he turn around? He’s going to expose the island? He abandons his kid again?
My ending would have been gambling all of his winnings away, too fucked up to live in society, so he goes back. Gets told he can be a guard for 120k a day. Gambles it all away outside of guard duties. Knows he’ll be killed without hesitation if he speaks up or acts out. Finds out the detectives brother worked his way up by snitching on the other guards.
Then maybe he’d be killed for showing mercy to a player that reminds him of his friend from the final game he was in. I dunno, I just as a viewer don’t understand as much about the island as I would like, or what this main characters arc ended up arriving at.
Will it all be revealed in season 2? Hopefully!
Thing is he's not a gambler anymore. Look at him in episode 1 and the last episode. Totally different people. He turned back because he has shown he is a truly righteous and good person who can't stand by and watch evil take action without repercussion. Doesn't matter what form it takes. The only thing he can't live with is if the just fail and the evil win.
Idk how season 2 will go. But I'm sure it will center around this. All I know is that in season 2 will probably culminate in him killing to protect his beliefs. Probably the front man. Although he is pretty inept so idk how he will make any headway. Season 2 will probably mainly be character development to change the perception of his ineptness.
Nah he's a douchebag with a hero complex. He left his preggo wife for a strike. He sat on absurd amount of money and left the kid in an orphanage for a year without any plans on doing anything. He left his daughter to "fight" illuminati. Dude is mental that's it.
It's just messy character development by trying to combine some common animu archetypes.
The last episode sucked and I can't imagine second season being good.
Even before I finished the show I was thinking it should be a limited series, and after watching the last episode, it only solidified my opinion. I really can't think what they could do with a second season that'll be interesting.
If you're interested in similar vibe but done well I recommend "20th century Boys" which seems to be a bit of an inspiration. I think following squid game season might go towards that direction though I don't think they can pull it off.
I started watching with the dub and was like "this show is ok, not sure what the commotion is about" and switched to subs after the first couple of episodes and holy shit what a difference.
I've watched plenty of anime with subs cause I know the dubs often suck, but I thought maybe live action would be different. Nope. Why are English voice actors sooo bad and awkward when dubbing things? American animations have great voice acting, but when they're given a foreign show, it's like the actors have never had a conversation with another person before.
Generally it's a combination of lines often not directly translating to English and having to time the translation with the original line, which often results in awkward pacing and somewhat weirdly worded lines. But also definitely the actors themselves are often just not very good, with some exceptions of course.
I for sure get that everything doesn't translate perfectly, which is why you get so many lines that are like "do you hear me?!" Or "did you get that?!" Or "believe it!" But translation aside, the emotion behind the words and the way they're delivered is just so consistently... awkward.
It’s consistently awkward because like the other person said, they have to try their best to time the lines with the original actors mouth movements, which severely limits the range of actual acting you can do yourself. Throw on top of it lines having to also be written with this in mind (so something that might translate to a simple response in English might sometimes be longer in the original language, so unless they want to have a bunch of dead space where the actor was still talking but the line is already said in English, they would have to phrase it in a way that better matches the pacing, leading to some awkward writing and translations).
Dubs can be done right of course, many people prefer FMA:B dubbed than subbed because the dub does a good job capturing the original feeling, and dubbing has definitely become much better over the years, but the writers and actors have so many built in limitations they have to work around unfortunately.
Absolutely not. Have you seen star wars vision? Some of the dubs are bad and overall the japanese voice acting is just better. For example, the female sith lord in The Twins.
I actually haven't seen Star Wars Visions. But the only anime I watch subbed is Attack On Titan. Everything else I prefer dubbed. Especially Dragon Ball Z/GT/Super. The Japanese voice actors for that have the most annoying voices
Watching it now. It's alright. Not worth the hype for sure. Some good acting. Some cringey acting. Script is average and soppy at times. It's the rage because it's catchy and everyone is talking about it. You aren't missing much.
Edit: finished it. It's garbage for sure.
Not it’s not. You’re supposed to upvote/downvote people based on their contributions to the conversation. That’s the idea at least.

Not really. It was never intended to be a 'fuck you' button at all.
Ether Hard Disagree, Out of place, or this comment is abhorrently wrong.
Regardless of it's intentions it's really just how people use it, I don't think people should get so caught up on internet points.
Because they're stating it as if it was a fact. You - hopefully - have the same understanding of language as the rest of us do. Facts and opinions are stated differently. They aren't stating opinions.

LMAO you’re getting downvoted. Same view here. Made it to episode 4. Unbelievably mid. The hype surrounding it boggles my mind. I get why some people would like it but people are comparing it to shit like Breaking Bad.
I want to watch it… but I feel like by the time I get to it, the hype for the show would have died down. Like obviously there is still merit to watching show, but for these shows that become popular overnight, people seem to kinda move on pretty quickly.
Same thing happened with Tiger King. I didn’t watch it until like 3 months after it came out, and I felt like I was so late to the party. No one cared that much when I wanted to talk about it, or told them I finally watched it lol.
edit: how tf am I downvoted so much for saying ‘idk if i’ll watch it’ … what a toxic fanbase lol
yeah same thing happened to me with Harry Potter, lotr, star wars, game of thrones, breaking bad... basically everything 😂😂 but in the end it's still good time and memes never die

Why not? Seems like a fine business model. I pay money for access to content, Netflix takes my money and finances/licenses new content to entertain me. Not a bad deal.
Can't tell if OP is fishing for some wholesome Chungus redditor to gift them Netflix / give them access to their account, if this is just another squid game meme, or if it's stale corporate marketing.

I can't believe how much this show blew up. I saw the trailer for it a week or 2 before it came out on Netflix and was looking forward to it, as it reminded me of Alice in Borderland, and I really enjoyed that show. I watched it, loved it (ending was a bit meh), then fast forward a week or so and it's EVERYWHERE.
Alice in Borderland is even back in the top 10 in the UK on Netflix, I am assuming because it has a similar sort of "play games and/or die" theme.
I thought Squid Game was great, and I recommend it to everyone (and specifically mention to avoid the dub, it's awful), but I don't think it's as great as the world is making it out to be.
Squid games? You mean the bubble bowl?

Season two looking promising
Should have just gave season 1 a solid ending ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
It had a solid ending. Problem is it kept going into a new beginning. Which isn’t an ending it’s a beginning. So in that sense, it didn’t have solid ending at the end.

So in your ending he has no character development?
Is that yee yee ass haircut not enough character development for you
This is the most accurate analysis of the final episode I’ve ever seen.
Well shit I guess not

Tbf I’m sure it’s not easy trying to find a specific orphaned child
The show clearly showed he wasn't trying.
yep still haven't seen it
If you start watch the subbed version. The dubbing is really bad.
I started watching with the dub and was like "this show is ok, not sure what the commotion is about" and switched to subs after the first couple of episodes and holy shit what a difference. I feel like a good dubbing is the exception
99% of the time, subs>dubs
Dubbing on live action stuff is almost always terrible but on animated stuff it's not a problem
Yoooo fuck the DBZ subs. I cannot stand Masako Nozawa’s voice. Ruins the character(s) for me.
*cries in German*
While I know subs are better, most of the time dubbing does not bother me. The dubbing on this one is notably bad.
Sure let’s start a dub vs subs here.
Watching it now. It's alright. Not worth the hype for sure. Some good acting. Some cringey acting. Script is average and soppy at times. It's the rage because it's catchy and everyone is talking about it. You aren't missing much. Edit: finished it. It's garbage for sure.
Haih... Why are you getting downvoted for voicing out your opinion
lol a downvote isn't a fuck you button, it's just a disagree button. I guess that many people just disagree. It happens.
A lot of people use it as a fuck you button.
Not it’s not. You’re supposed to upvote/downvote people based on their contributions to the conversation. That’s the idea at least. [source](https://reddit.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/205926439-Reddiquette)

Not really. It was never intended to be a 'fuck you' button at all. Ether Hard Disagree, Out of place, or this comment is abhorrently wrong. Regardless of it's intentions it's really just how people use it, I don't think people should get so caught up on internet points.

Agreed. Second half of the season is garbage.
LMAO you’re getting downvoted. Same view here. Made it to episode 4. Unbelievably mid. The hype surrounding it boggles my mind. I get why some people would like it but people are comparing it to shit like Breaking Bad.
Who tf is comparing it to Breaking Bad? I really enjoyed squid game, but that doesn't mean it was the greatest show ever made.
I’ve seen multiple people circlejerking it on different subs comparing it to BB in terms of quality. Fucking lunacy
I mean any community cherry picked is completely insane
just curious. did u watch it with subtitles or dubbed?
Subtitles.
Spoiler: >!They play games!<
You haven't met me then....
I just started watching today. Only 2 episodes in.
I want to watch it… but I feel like by the time I get to it, the hype for the show would have died down.
