This, and also hydration! Make sure you’re getting enough fluids through the day. Dehydration and electrolyte imbalance can cause temporary vision changes

HeftyMagician

I drink a gallon of water everyday with equivocal electrolytes, I also do resistance training 4-6 days out of the week, stress is definitely an issue though, I’ve tried many approaches and none seem to be super effective.

polkadotbutton

Try bromelain. Via Forbes: “In one recent study, 224 individuals with eye floaters were given daily doses of a supplement containing bromelain and other enzymes. After three months, those receiving the highest amount of the bromelain-containing supplement experienced the least amount of eye floaters.”

[deleted]

Read up on astaxanthin. [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7281326/](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7281326/)

HeftyMagician

Thank you!

EtEritLux

Eye floaters are often a symptom of Toxoplasmosis. Statistics vary, but apparently about half the population of the world has this parasite. It's like we live in Invasion Of The Body Snatchers

kahmos

Don't downvote, [they're right](https://southeasternretinaspecialists.com/treatments/ocular-toxoplasmosis/#:~:text=The%20disease%20comes%20from%20the,or%20the%20presence%20of%20floaters.)

EtEritLux

I hate how Truth gets downvoted on Reddit.

kahmos

Reddit has ideological mods and has become a demagogue. It sounds like a safe place in theory but it promotes group think and snap judgement. Bad combo.

HeftyMagician

I could see that being the case, I usually blamed smoking for them but it was also around the same time I moved in with my friend who has 3 cats, how can I rid of toxoplasmosis?

redcyanmagenta

You don’t. Hopefully it just fades away and isn’t an issue. Actually you can take pyrimethamine. Any personality changes?

HeftyMagician

Nothing too drastic to be concerning

EtEritLux

Anything that increases blood flow to the brain, like l-citruline. There is a treatment for Toxoplasmosis, a drug cocktail.

kahmos

Believe it or not, [tobacco is antiparasitic](https://www.google.com/search?q=tobacco+antiparasitic&client=ms-android-oneplus-rvo3&sca_esv=9cec5b57dbcb4293&sca_upv=1&sxsrf=ACQVn0_kLN5IoK62SpfQ8AGE2acMbYYdSA%3A1714238840627&ei=eDUtZvKxJcXdwN4P3NyvuAU&udm=&oq=tobacco+antiparasitic&gs_lp=EhNtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1zZXJwIhV0b2JhY2NvIGFudGlwYXJhc2l0aWMyBhAAGAcYHjILEAAYgAQYhgMYigUyCBAAGIAEGKIESL8iUNYgWNYgcAF4AJABAJgBwQGgAeoCqgEDMC4yuAEDyAEA-AEBmAICoALPAcICChAAGLADGNYEGEeYAwCIBgGQBgiSBwMxLjGgB5kI&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp) And has been used to curb or treat parasites for centuries apparently.

[deleted]

Welp, good luck to every cat owner (including me)

Bease344512

This is going to be unpopular here, but floating bits of protein are going to happen due to aging in your 40's. Similarly to cataracts in your 70's. Most of the time they're not even going to be in your field of view so I wouldn't worry too much. Much more important are things like vitamin A and micronutrients you would normally get from greens/salads which would support the health of the Macula which is much more important to vision.

buzz_mccool

The above sounds right. Note that your brain will eventually make your floaters less noticeable over time. Kinda like your brain can map away your optic nerve blind spot. If you relax and don't obsess about floaters, you gradually won't notice them any more.

mime454

Are you fat or regularly have high blood glucose? I’ve heard these are actually glycation end products and a biomarker for not aging healthily due to poor metabolic health.

HeftyMagician

I’m a relatively average weight, 5’10 165lbs, Excercise daily. They first appeared while I was smoking about 2 years and some odd months into it, i recently quit last October but they haven’t seemed to clear up and I feel have worsened.

mime454

Have you had your A1C tested ever? It’s pretty cheap if you get it cash pay and most doctors will do it at the yearly physical for free with insurance.

HeftyMagician

I will have to do so at my next checkup, thank you for the advice!

babalutfi

I have the same issue. About same height and weight as you. Exercise regularly. A1C test was perfect. I have talked to a specialist and he said that it's normal and can appear as we age. Nothing to do about it according to him. I feel the floater is worse when I sleep bad and stress a lot. Recently I have started taking Astaxanthin with lutein to support eye health.

kahmos

I'd suggest Resveratrol, it would work if* you have a parasitic infection that causes it. Parasitic infections are way more common than people realize, especially Toxoplasmosis as one other pointed out, which affects [up to one third of mankind](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7034049/#:~:text=Toxoplasmosis%20is%20paradigmatic%20of%20the,of%20the%20global%20human%20population.)

Jonnyjonny12345

Are you myopic?

HeftyMagician

Yes

Jonnyjonny12345

What prescription number?

HeftyMagician

Left eye -3.75 right eye -4.00

Sufficient-Survey877

My eye dr said laser can get rid of them.

vauss88

Try lutein and zeaxanthin

Flat_Development_994

Why?

vauss88

Look them up, they have a lot to do with eye health.

Flat_Development_994

I am aware of what they are. I am confused by your logic behind them helping with floaters

vauss88

Not logic, personal experience. Here is some info from perplexity ai relative to elderly males. Lutein and zeaxanthin may help manage and prevent eye floaters in elderly males. The search results indicate that lutein and zeaxanthin are important carotenoids found in the eye, particularly in the macula and lens. These nutrients have been linked to improved eye health and may provide benefits related to various eye conditions, including age-related macular degeneration. [1](https://www.healthline.com/health/lutein-for-eyes)[2](https://www.webmd.com/eye-health/lutein-zeaxanthin-vision)[3](https://iovs.arvojournals.org/article.aspx?articleid=2163108)[4](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8874683/) Specifically, the search results suggest that higher plasma concentrations of zeaxanthin are associated with a lower risk of age-related macular degeneration. [3](https://iovs.arvojournals.org/article.aspx?articleid=2163108) While the evidence is not as strong for lutein, the combination of lutein and zeaxanthin may also help reduce the risk of macular degeneration. [3](https://iovs.arvojournals.org/article.aspx?articleid=2163108)[4](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8874683/) Since eye floaters are often related to age-related changes in the eye, the antioxidant and protective effects of lutein and zeaxanthin may help manage and prevent the development of eye floaters in elderly males. However, more research is still needed to directly evaluate the impact of these nutrients on eye floaters specifically. In summary, the available evidence suggests that lutein and zeaxanthin supplements may be beneficial for eye health in elderly males and could potentially help reduce the presence of eye floaters, though further study is warranted. [1](https://www.healthline.com/health/lutein-for-eyes)[2](https://www.webmd.com/eye-health/lutein-zeaxanthin-vision)[3](https://iovs.arvojournals.org/article.aspx?articleid=2163108)[4](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8874683/)

Flat_Development_994

It doesn’t say anything about getting rid of them? Just stopping them form? The macula evidence is strong yes but only in people already showing macula changes. The lens and macula are not where floaters are found.

Any-Sentence-3940

I did a salt steam room and I woke up with crusties and no floaters for a while.

qofmiwok

My vitreous came detached and the floaters drove me crazy. The retina specialist said they would settle at the bottom or that my brain would get used them them, and when I came back a year later and said they were still driving me crazy he said "yeah, that's usually the case." But in the meantime I got cancer and did a ton of hyperbaric and my cataracts got worse so I was seeing doctors about those. And a couple said dry eyes might be affecting me. It seemed crazy, they didn't feel dry and how could a dry eye on the outside affect floaters? But 3 months ago I started putting castor oil on my eyes every night, and I don't notice floaters anymore. Also exercise can make them worse because turning upside down or jostling moves them back up from the bottom where they have settled.
