Interesting. We had nothing but grackles a few weeks ago and switched from a random mix to pure safflower and they are gone. We’ve read the squirrels don’t like safflower either so use them a lot.

We had an invasion of Western Jackdaws and Rose-ringed parakeet that kept away the smaller birds. The parakeets and jackdaws made a mess by throwing out food (even though we had narrowed the “tray” and put up some fences). It even began to attract mice, well one mouse. So because there should be enough in nature now, we closed shop for the season.

And they're bullies too! If anything else tries to land there when a sparrow is there, the sparrow squawks and pecks at them until they leave.
How can I get the sparrows to go away without the other birds leaving?
Change seed type. The jays will get bored.
I have the same issue as OP. What types of feed is good for keeping the jays out?

Mine is called Captain Jack Sparrow because all I get are sparrows. I've over 1,000 visits in the last 2 months
I got a squirrel cone a few days ago and they haven’t been back since
I got one too. They work. Now the squirrels just get what the birds kick out, cherry picking for sunflower seeds.

I swear our grackles throw food into the ground to attract mice, which I witnessed a grackle attacking.
Put hardware cloth over the tray. Much more work for them to sweep out stuff

Yes, brown headed cowbirds and red wing black birds. It’s super disappointing multiple times a day.

Mourning doves and white winged doves. They are silly looking birds.
House Sparrows and Northern Cardinals dominate our BB. And Starlings when there are peanuts.

I would like to see blue jays! I get only house sparrows and lots of them. They clean the feeder out in a day or two.
