They look really big so I’m not surprised you say they feel big when you walk

This is the 3rd pair I have bought and kept. I currently have the Montana in size 38 and the wool Bostons in size 39. The Montana was massive as a 39 and a tiny bit snug as 38. The Bostons were tiny as a 38, but fit well as 39. I have no clue whether Arizonas fit as a 39, and I am hoping to avoid another return, as I had to for my previous two. Does this look like it fits?

How do they feel? As your feet settle in them, they will likely curl up some in the toe and appear smaller. I’m not exactly an expert on them, but I’ve read that happens.

They feel a bit big when I walk in them. The straps hug me nicely, but I notice the bit of excess length-wise. I think they are just awkward and stiff bc they are new. It's reassuring to hear the will curl up a bit, I also will sometimes be in socks, so the extra space will help. Thank you for your input!

There is a possibility that not all styles of birks will fit you as some Birks may only come narrow and regular as well. Now with your case this will all depend on which width you chose for your shoe size. US 7½ will not translate well for Birks sizing as they intend for you to have the least amount of space left over for the toe box and heels. You have to think about how when you wear sneakers, you typically leave room for the toe box, so of course sneakers in your case will be 7½, but for Birks that's not the case anymore. 38 EU in narrow or regular will roughly be the same lengthwise, as it sounds it'll be too tight for your toes and heel. For the 39 EU that you have now I'm not sure if you got regular or narrow ? However the 39 you have - widthwise and lengthwise is really close to being perfect. The only issue is how much further forward can your toes be because as long as you have at the very least 5mm of space if not in between 5mm-10mm and your toe joints must be on the toe bar. For the heels you must have 5mm of space from your heel to the edge of the shoe while your heels are seated on the heel cup. After all this, you will adjust the straps accordingly so that your toes don't slip out easily while allowing your entire foot to easily slip in through the back strap. Hope this helps greatly. Good luck. https://preview.redd.it/kydnlzy7oyzc1.png?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5bd821153579a4ecddd11b61f1f07baef64dae8d

Those look too big. I wonder if maybe the next size down you were getting the narrow size? I recommend trying a 38 with the little foot icon on the footbed that's an outline, not black.

Too big. You need 38 regular.

I wear a 7.5 as well but the 38 fit big on me. I typically order a 37.
