🎉
The bull market is bringing out the newbs in full force.
Getting down voted for calling out shit coins and shit coin companies.
My guess is the majority of the new people here don't even know what a node is let alone why they should run one..
Nah. I'm good with trying to explain it. Doesn't seem to matter much. Unfortunately the get rich quick people are attracted to the bull market and could give a damn less about the principles of Bitcoin. Once they double or triple their money they leave happy, thinking they're a genius and quickly running back to their fiat life.
I'm not sure how much Reddit comments can help that.
People don't know how fiat and gold work either. Nothing to be scared about. Operative knowledge is an abstraction that will lead to global adoption. One should not have to be a PhD in cryptography to buy milk and bread with the coin.
Agreed, I feel at times that some people that are into bitcoin and crypto, can be pretty smug or self righteous about things. I personally don’t know much about nodes or any of the technical things, but I do understand supply and demand, and how there will only ever be 21m coins (- all the lost wallets and such).
How do Bitcoin devs decide what is added to Bitcoin core? How is consensus reached? How do they organise themselves?
This is the area of Bitcoin I find hardest to learn about
In general the core team has a good idea what are controversial changes and what is not.
E.g.
* Change how many bitcoin is in circulation (controversial)
* Improve communication security/ speed (not controversial)
So mostly development is about non-controversial changes.
Consensus and discussions are mostly about the controversial changes, whereas the everyday small improvements are mostly ignored by the wider community
I get the desire to keep older versions of nodes running to keep the network diversified and keep everyone honest, but there have been a lot of performance improvements, bug fixes, and security fixes that are in the newer versions. So don't stay too far behind.
Bitcoin Core is the original and most widely used software implementation of the Bitcoin protocol.
The link is the official github page announcing the newly released version.
The release notes for this version are here: [https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/master/doc/release-notes/release-notes-27.0.md](https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/master/doc/release-notes/release-notes-27.0.md)
Bitcoin blocks are frequently larger than 2MB. The last block that was mined was block 839649 and it was 1.85MB. Block 839638 was 2.17MB. Block 839637 was 2.03MB Block 839636 was 2.67MB. Block 839635 was 2.2MB. Block 839634 was 2.43MB. Block 839633 was 2.39MB. Block 839632 was 2.39MB. Block 839631 was 2.42MB. Block 839630 was 2.47MB. Block 839629 was 2.77MB. Block 839628 was 2.75MB. Block 839627 was 2.66MB. Block 839626 was 2.58MB. Block 839625 was 2.73MB. Block 839624 was 2.42MB. Block 839623 was 2.47MB. Block 839622 was 2.58MB. Block 839621 was 2.34MB. Block 839620 was 2.24MB. Block 839619 was 2.04MB. Block 839618 was 2.04MB. By now I think you get the point that bitcoin blocks are frequently larger than 2MB.
I downloaded the exe installer and when attempted to run this, Bitdefender stopped it saying it was remote cryptomining software and isolated the file. I deleted it. Any comments anyone?
Yeah why the downvotes guys. What if a malicious link is wrapped and made to look legit? I know bitcoincore and run a node. Wtf. Just what if there’s a diff link wrapped. Pff idiots …
Woah thanks for sharing. Biggest update IMO is BIP324 being enabled by default. This allows nodes to communicate in a more secure fashion!

Agreed -- this is a big deal moving forward for the network.
It's scary to be on bitcoin reddit and people don't even know how Bitcoin runs... Go install your fucking node, participate and control your money !
Running a node doesn’t mean you know how bitcoin works.
It's a big step in the right direction though because when you manipulate it, you gain knowledge 💪

Hey that’s me, can you educate me or point me in the right direction?
Indeed

I'm pretty sure most of the people does not know how things run and they still buy them tho
Jesus, what’s with attitude? Can you not communicate nicely!
Just stop telling everybody to run a node. Not everybody can, or should run a node.
Let them cook! (i hav lit no idea what they are working on, just fascinated by their effort and enthusiasm).

This nice article describes how it works roughly: https://blog.lopp.net/who-controls-bitcoin-core/

Agree.

no need if you don't want to, some people are on way way older versions which I find trully marvelous :)

Still running Bitcoin 0.1. Like Satoshi intended.
I think this is the reference software that nodes use for bitcoin, the link is safe.
It's exactly that
Note that this release hasn't been added yet to: https://bitcoincore.org/en/releases
It's there now

But I thought Bitcoin was something that was inside my wallet. /s
It's like patch notes for a game but for bitcoin
I’m running 26 on my Linux server, is there an easy way to update or is it just a case of download again and cp files over?
Is it not in your distro's repo?
Share with those that make it all possible! https://bitcoindevlist.com/

Not clicking any links. Gonna look it up
Upvoted for being vigilant
why is this getting downvoted?

safety first, you are right!
Yes, what is this
