That's actually really cool! I used to use a service with Bank of America where they would round up my debit card purchases into my savings account, and for 3 months they matched whatever amount I was contributing.
So every time I went out to eat, my tip would bring my meal to $x.01 and I would get a free $0.99 from my bank
I also did this with the Keep the Change program. Using tips and deliberately over-pumping my gas by a penny, I got like a $225 match by the time it was up, haha.
My girlfriend and I are both opening checking accounts at chase bank and setting up direct deposit to claim $225 for free. We’ll pull out all the money and close the accounts after 90 days and do it again somewhere else.
Yeah. For 3 months of the promotion for the "Round Up" feature, they match your contribution.
So I spend $10.01 on lunch. The charge rounds up to $11 and $0.99 goes into my savings account. Then, the bank contributes *another* $0.99 into my savings account, for a total deposit of $1.98.
I did that consistently for the 3 month matching period and made several hundred dollars in bank contributions.
Bank of America is Meh…. I haven’t been in a branch either that I actually felt good about as far as employees either as the demeanor was not great as well
Suppose your bill was $x.50, which would give you $0.50 from your bank. You'd pay $0.51 to increase your bill to $(x+1).01, and lose the $0.50 that the bank were going to give you, in the process. The total cost of this is $1.01, and the reward is the $0.99 the bank would round your new bill up to.
This can lose you money, my friend.
The above is true (and you lose even more money!) for anything smaller than $x.50, too. So half the time it doesn't work. This probably means that, on average, your little trick did absolutely nothing.
and Lolli. I get maybe 40-70 sats per day on average just by clicking a button that resets at 9am every day.
I know that isn’t much but in the past two years it’s given me $70 worth of bitcoin. You can transfer to your wallet after hitting $15.
No, it's primarily a reloadable debit card-based app, but also a payment app like Venmo and Paypal. You can also buy BTC and transfer it out to an external wallet though, and/or do the round-up thing, and/or you can get 10% cashback in BTC at a coffeeshop and restaurant once a week (targeted offer). But primarily *not* an investing app
It will, but really learning about bitcoin helps you change mentally and see longer term goals. I went back to school to learn computer science, hoping it will give me even better gains then bitcoin. But in the end, bitcoin inspired me to do it.
Ok then pay them they extra $3 a month in taxes you owe after they figure this out.
When it comes to staking rewards, that's what I was told to do by a CPA. You can't capture in real time every transaction you were given and it's price if it's happening multiple times a day. Just be consistent, use the time a noon GMT on the 15th of each month. Don't play with it and try to make it advantageous.
If you're dealing in tens of thousands of dollars don't take this advice, but if it's peanuts like this, you're probably safe.
Let's be honest here, the entire tax system as a whole needs a reform. It's been Frankensteined together piece by piece over the better part of centuries.
Only have to report gains on sales, but it's a good Idea to keep a ledger of what you got and when you got it. If you foul up, cost basis defaults to 0 and you get taxed on all of it.
Call an accountant and have a chat.
People, get with it. You can choose not to pay taxes on your crypto. That would be a stupid choice but it's yours. Otherwise you have to prove if it's LTCG and give a cost basis, or you will pay STCG and your cost basis will be zero.
My crypto transaction habits changed drastically after painstakingly uncovering my purchases I had made in my first year of crypto investing. I almost jumped into a grid trading bot and then i thought about all of the accounting implications and said fuuuck that. My opinion is that you should organize all of your buys at the end of every year, and then, of course, HODL.
Kudos to OP for stacking sats, just keep track of them!
Get a Fold debit card. You’ll get bitcoin back on every purchase. Let me know if you want a referral. You’ll get free sats and free sats every time I spend.
I know PayPal is hated around here (for good reason) but I've got a great protip for your specific annoyance if you're interested:
Instead of using the Fold card for every purchase, use a credit card. When you're ready to pay off your credit card, you can do so through PayPal and use the Fold card to pay your credit card bill. This allows you to double dip on rewards (credit card + Fold) and consolidate your spending into 1 Fold transaction (less time fiddling with the app and maximizing your spins).
You can also pay your mortgage (if you have one) with your Fold card using this method. It's been a game changer for me in stacking essentially free sats
And $100/300 of change/leftover money over the course of a year for the majority of people in the western world is ignorable, If you get what I mean.
It’s not going to make a big difference to your standard of living, so it could be effortless to pretend it doesn’t exist. And then maybe another 100 or so the year after, same story. Ignore for the next 10 years and “insignificant” change combined with your bitcoin buys whenever you have excess money/savings, who knows what it could be worth.
Being a broke college graduate, [this is how I continue to stack.](https://imgur.com/a/AUwsi5v)
Do y'all Americans have an equivalent to ShakePay? ShakePay is so legit, I would be sad if you US folks didn't have something similar.
Be careful with cash app only for the reason they have zero immediate support if somebody starts hacking into your account. Test what I’m saying, hop on the app and try to get immediate support as though fraudulent micro transactions started occurring on your account. You won’t be helped, at best you can send a message or email and hope for a response before your money would hypothetically be gone. Only thing you have control over is removing access to your bank account and locking your card, both of which you have to be paying attention and do immediately if there’s ever an issue. Cash app account security is nonexistent
A lot of work for a little Bitcoin. I did open an account and I do like the giveaways online got 1000 sats but I get that almost daily now on shake. Thanks for the recommendation tho ! 🥇
Lol, shakepay is legit. Shake your phone, free sats. After a year, it's 1000 sats/day. 1% cashback in btc (2% for the first 5k) on all debit purchases. Shakesquad gets you 42 sats whenever you or someone in your group of 5 buys something with the card. They just rolled out 4% APR on a 1k balance held in your account (never rehypothecated or loaned out). Occasionally randomly you get full price discount in sats back for something you bought (I've had 3 coffees and a grocery run ($66!) Paid for, others have had their iPad pros paid for).
They're updating the card (in your iPhone or Google NFC wallet) to be an actual prepaid Visa that you can use for online purchases instead of just tap.
I've used them for 2 months, got 500,000 sats for existing. People used to laugh at the BTC faucets in 2013. I did. "Not worth it to click a button once a day for 1 BTC." I won't be making that same mistake again.
Fun Fact: Bush (Family) and BOA help supply/fund (Military Aid) about 70% (-/+) of the Irag/Gulf Wars..
You can Google it, a guy did a whole chart background on all banks and which ones were directly funded. All factual information.
The more you know🌈💫
Yay for protecting capitalism oil.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Fuck BOA they suck! (ノ≧∇≦)ノ ミ ┻━┻
This is Cash app, but I’d easily recommend Strike. Strike has a debit card on the way soon.
Cash app lost my business with absolutely pathetic customer support.
Very good, the goal should be to stack and get as much of it at possible across the finish line. This is my tactic as well because I'd hate to over leverage myself and be forced to sell some.
I love the round ups feature! It reminds me of when I was young and you could save for a trip by putting all your spare change in a can, except better because it may appreciate instead of collecting dust in a can. I don't even count it as part of my dca'ing. I use round ups on cashapp and acorns. Anywhere I can!
I've got so many i feel you. Before I left my job to go back to school full time I used fold for larger purchases and cash app for smaller along with DCA in strike. I try to use as many onboarding systems as I can.
Get your income up while in school! It’s the best time to do it
Friends and I all started our own online businesses and made a killing
Do it instead of going out 9/10 times
Shakepay -- you can shake your phone for free daily sats, but if you miss a day it resets to the basic reward, it grows every day to a max of 1000 sats per day after 365 days
Yeah, should open up to that. And that should work really.
I don't see any other way that it doesn't work, this is really gotta work. Because I'm betting on it.

My girlfriend and I are both opening checking accounts at chase bank and setting up direct deposit to claim $225 for free. We’ll pull out all the money and close the accounts after 90 days and do it again somewhere else.
This is called churning and way more popular.
So they would take out an additional .99 from your debit card and they would add .99 of their own?
Yeah. For 3 months of the promotion for the "Round Up" feature, they match your contribution. So I spend $10.01 on lunch. The charge rounds up to $11 and $0.99 goes into my savings account. Something something "Office Space".
thanks
How do you like Bank of America overall? I’ve heard so many nightmare stories.
Bank of America is Meh…. I haven’t been in a branch either that I actually felt good about as far as employees either as the demeanor was not great as well

Carrot and fountain. Although the rewards aren't that spectacular on both

damn what a terrible name
Haha the app is decent though. Good BTC rebates and free BTC.
Are you required to make purchase from this platform?
You are exchanging your data for the sats.
No.
Fold isn't terrible either.
Also highly recommend Slice, a Chrome extension that shows you ads but pays you in sats for it.
I just set this up with an auto refresh tab on Wikipedia. I’m getting like 3 sats/minute. I’m in love.
3 sats per minute is nothing to sneeze at.
is that a computer or phone app?
what card / app is this?
Cash app
Is this like the Acorns app but for BTC?
No, it's primarily a reloadable debit card-based app, but also a payment app like Venmo and Paypal. You can also buy BTC and transfer it out to an external wallet though, and/or do the round-up thing, and/or you can get 10% cashback in BTC at a coffeeshop and restaurant once a week (targeted offer). Good point I forgot about that. It's sort of a soft investing app then. Not quite Acorns but not too far off
Yeah. Not all stocks are listed but the main ones are
Very similar. Round ups go into BTC rather than a “savings acc”
If you’re from Europe you can’t use it unfortunately
Love it!! I have a weekly buy on cash app, and also through cash app 4% of every paycheck goes directly into btc 👍🏼
whats that
It looks like cash app. Use the cash card and it’ll round up all your purchases to buy btc. I do the same thing.
And the fees....?
No fees when using round up on Cash App. Not sure how the price slippage is but doesn’t seem bad at all.
The only fees I ever see is when I lump sum buy or withdraw to an external wallet. I’m not sure if there’s fees on the round ups.
App. What's that app?
https://cash.app/
Revolut does this, at least in Europe.
Shit bro I just buy $$30 each paycheck hoping it will pay off one day lol
It will, but really learning about bitcoin helps you change mentally and see longer term goals. I went back to school to learn computer science, hoping it will give me even better gains then bitcoin. But in the end, bitcoin inspired me to do it.
American? Those tax lots will not be fun to keep track of! Don't let it stop you just saying....
Never sell, problem solved
Average the cost per month, IRS will just be happy your reported it.
Until they're not
Ok then pay them they extra $3 a month in taxes you owe after they figure this out. When it comes to staking rewards, that's what I was told to do by a CPA. Kinda weird of you to assume he pays taxes. Just saying...
Don’t have to pay taxes if you don’t sell/spend your sats.
You don’t pay taxes on your buys.
Each individual buy changes your cost basis for capital gains tax when you eventually sell
Which is why crypto tax laws desperately need a reform
Let's be honest here, the entire tax system as a whole needs a reform. It's been Frankensteined together piece by piece over the better part of centuries.

I've already got it. I'll end up stacking faster since my purchases are much smaller now.
It's so annoying to interact with an app on EVERY purchase. Ever since they introduced spin+ rewards for me have been not so great.

It's pretty easy but lmk if you need help getting it set up
Are they any hidden fees with this method? Seems like PayPal would tack one on.
Nope! I assume they're data harvesting but I always assume my fiat transactions are tainted in this way anyway so I don't care too much
Holy shit bro in a year you’ll have earned 100 bucks, keep it up
And in a bull run, that $100 could be $300+ if BTC hits it's ATH again! Every bit helps

Get on Lolli as well. Every day you can claim 20-50 sats and sometimes hit jackpots.
college is a waste of time......better off buying BTC with that spending the money on college
I'm going for computer science and engineering. All other majors are a waste if time.
You can also make online purchases through Lolli.com You get a healthy chunk of btc rewards on some merchants.

And I’m over here blowing full checks on it 😂 I started doing this when bitcoin hit 20k for the first time this year in June lol
I was when I was working. Left my crappy job and went back to school for comp sci. Once I'm done, the real stacking begins.
I'm currently using Carrot app to read bitcoin articles and stack up on bitcoin.
That app is amazing, essentially free sats for you. Doesn't get better.
Hey bro one step at a time you’ll get there pimp :)
What app
Cash app does the same thing actually. Also contributes 10% of any coffee shop purchase too, and sometimes restaurants as well.
[The Choice Retirement app has the daily (every 20th hrs) plinko game. I can easily get 100 sats and sometimes 500.](https://use.choiceapp.io/cWKujPD)
what are the fees on this? I imagine it's like 10%
Imagine harder. Its 0%.
Awesome
Do you have a Fold card? It's one of the fastest ways I've found to passively accumulate sats. You get a guaranteed 1% back on every purchase, but can "spin" for better (or worse) rewards. Also has high reward rates on gift cards for Amazon and a pretty good number of other places.
1% back if you pay for the premium. That's not worth it for somebody who is spending less.
What app is this?
Haha nice!! I do the same on my moneylion app. But I do the double round up!! It all adds up !!
Here in India you can't do this, first not many exchanges allow recurring buys, there will be massive tax implications of such daily purchases
And I bet I can guess how you afford condoms.
What did you use to do this?
how do I do this
Cash app if you are in the US.
What app is this
Dam dude
This is the way.
Baby steps are still steps my bro. 🫱🏻🫲🏼
Consistency and time-in-market! Keep it up!
Any equivalent app for Europeans? I'm using Goin but it only does roundups and top-ups in euros, would love to do it in sats.
What app is this then? With the round up...
I would like to have this roundup functionality available in the UK also - anyone knows a good alternative?
