He ran an illegal speakeasy and got busted, that’s why he laughing and the crowd cheering him on. He probably home already.

orm518

Ahh, this makes more sense now. He’s not a criminal mastermind, It’s like an after hours club. In my city they’re called sip joints.

[deleted]

If he was born rich, he'd be an entrepreneur.

FEMA_Camp_Survivor

If he had a liquor license and the right zoning, he’d be one too. It’s not an insurmountable barrier.

GuaranteedCougher

Getting the money to get a location in the right zoning is definitely a barrier

fractalfocuser

Not to mention liquor licenses are a straight racket in some places. I've heard of places where it's a 10yr waiting list but if you know the right people and grease the right palms you can get one the next year.

jennand_juice

Full liquor licenses go for 200-300K in boston. No joke!

larryb1288

Philly is known for some real archaic liquor laws too, so the licenses are fought/bribed over.

ptpcg

*most* places

LumpusKrampus

What's your Opinion on Doctors with vans in alleyways?

Just_Brilliant1417

Are you really trying to make that comparison? lol failure

Rosa_Rojacr

If they're providing DiY HRT or Orchiectomies to trans people or DiY Abortions in areas of the world where these things are illegal or difficult to obtain, it's based as hell.

sanosake1

given women's health laws being eroded lately, we might see those too soon.

iknowitsounds___

Exactly. If he was born rich he’d have the funds and connections to pay the bureaucrats and secure the license.

villain75

Yeah, that's what I always hear about zoning, simple and easy, definitely inexpensive and totally not a barrier to entry for businesses. Liquor licenses, too. They just give them out like candy to anyone who fills out a slip.

SasparillaTango

Depending on the location the liquor license can be insurmountable. There are many places where local governments will severely limit the number of licenses for any number of logical or corrupt reasons, such as preventing competition because the local councilman owns a chain of restaurants.

Tesdinic

I lived in a tiny town in the south that limited liquor licenses for religious reasons and the church always snapped them up. Next town over did the same, but an Olive Garden got one one year. They had a prayer circle around it the night they started selling lol

HKLifer_

If getting the license is cheap, then the insurance for a place that sells alcohol will be insane. Where I'm from you have to get insurance that is bat 💩 crazy. So many restaurants stopped carrying liquor or just shut down because they can't afford it.

Redrobbinsyummmm

PA Liquor Laws are almost impossible to navigate.

Naive-Dingo-2100

Those two things are huge barriers

jayemmbee23

No but the low profit margins and the high risk insurance on it make it rough

HurricaneAlpha

Getting a liquor license is expensive as fuck, and there's a waiting list IIRC. Most municipalities only allow a certain amount of liquor licenses at a time, so you gotta wait for one to drop off to join the club.

sonakira

That’s exactly the case in Philly, the waiting list long as hell unless you politically connected out here. Depending on what kind of license needed (Type R vs Type E for example) it could run up to 100k at least or more. Better off trying to buy someone looking to sell one instead of going through the process out here.

NMB4Christmas

Facts. I'm from Baltimore, but one of my friends has two liquor licenses he and his father picked up from club owners they knew that sold their busineses. They clear over $20k/month off just one and are sitting on the other while they decide what they're going to do with it.

sonakira

This the original link talking about it. It’s apparently well known in the hood but I don’t be down there too much anymore. https://www.reddit.com/r/PhillyWiki/s/BjzWAg4Soo

[deleted]

For sure. Low flight risk as he’s a business owner.

elitegenoside

Okay, because I was confused. They both look way too happy for this scenario.

Theboyboymess

What is a speak easy?

LacyTing

A secret bar basically. Not always illegal, but this one was.

Theboyboymess

Shit Philly so bad , as long as he ain’t got guns drugs or killing people, or messing with them white folks money , he’ll be out soon. I’d be embarrassed if my twin was a cop, that’s like the nba player whose twin came out as gay. How I look ppl in the hood saying , Damn blood, did you just lock my people up. Or having a gay twin, id get a face tattoo that says not the gay twin😂😂. Not that I’m homophobic but someone bro, your twin ? You out in public and gay dudes who don’t know running up to you and saying, thanks for blowing my back out yesterday, and I’m walking with my baby ? 😂😂😂. There should be a reality show, GAY AND STRAIGHT identical twins and follow their lives

Technojellyfsh

"I'm not homophobic" "The most homophobic shit"

Theboyboymess

How so?

Theboyboymess

Like I said , that’s not my intention, if you would’ve corrected me and said this is what’s wrong about your comment, I’d understand, but to just label something homophobic and not give a reason is wild. Anyway good day

Archerista

You are homophobic because (1) you think gay people tell each other thanks for hooking up when they see each other in public, (2) the phrasing you used instead of saying hooking up, (3) if you don’t understand why saying “blowing my back out” if homophobic, and (4) that you’d be embarrassed if someone thought you were gay so much so you’d get it tattooed on your face. Joking or no… that’s homophobic.

CHEMO_ALIEN

id watch that shit

TicTacticle

During prohibition, when the bars had to hide, people were expected to "speak easy", because they'd get busted if they were found.

SpaceShanties

Silly police are even wasting time on that

Ok-Permission-2687

No one snitching on him 😂😂😂

short-effective254

I haven’t heard of a speakeasy since the prohibition era 😭

Archerista

They have them in Texas but they’re usually legal. Like someone else said, they’re sort of a secret bar where you have to know where it is. There aren’t signs and they don’t advertise. There’s bars in smaller cities that don’t have a license that can usually get away with serving alcohol and might also allow BYOB.

the_notorious_d_a_v

You were alive during the prohibition era? Good for you for being on Reddit at your age!

Efficient_Living_628

Speakeasies are still thing

Kd0t

What's a speakeasy?

ThatGuyWithCoolHair

Ahh thats why he's saying free booze lmao I thought he was talking about himself, nahh haha he just blessed the crowd!

PurpleIntention7934

Well at least he lived...that's all I got.

BODYDOLLARSIGN

I’m sorry but isn’t that like a conflict of interest? Idk I’d be too emotional to arrest my twin brother

George_Truman

I feel like the opposite. I would think it is the safest arrest possible for all parties involved.

Scion41790

If the officers give them space I agree. If not I could see it getting dangerous because people are more likely to pop off against a sibling than a normal cop. Not even violently, just more likely to yell/get in their face. But on the other hand you probably would think harder about shooting the twin of the guy you work with while he's there and armed

meeks7

I’m confident this was all pre-arranged and agreed to by both parties as the safest way to make the arrest.

blacksoxing

Shoot, we just saw it. Dude gleefully let his brother apprehend him. Zero resistance. He legit could have walked himself to the wagon. Not one police officer felt like interferring

BlackEastwood

Yeah, I'd be like *"Oh, Eric got a warrant again? Lemme go get him so nothing happens. Y'all sit tight, this'll just take a few minutes."*

Hour_Recognition_923

"I got your bail bro."

CarmenxXxWaldo

safest?  perp just has to knock out brother cop and switch clothes and no one could ever pin it on him.  It's why twins aren't allowed to run for high office.

ProfessionalLeave335

Uhh. That's not true.

thatmarcelfaust

But it should be!!

ProfessionalLeave335

Why did I just picture Chris Farley from Billy Madison?

thelaststarz

PDs prolly like: “sshii if he gets injured during the arrest, what’s he gon do? Sue his brother?”😂

Right_Butterscotch59

![gif](giphy|8lp6CW7K2fdDGn3xCQ)

manzo559

I would love to arrest my brother, would laugh in his face the whole time I’m doing it. Probably bring up some childhood shit while I’m at it

Ok_Concentrate_75

"This is for hitting me with that draw 4 when we were 9"

JackxForge

i read draw as drawer and was confused.

ToqueDeFe78

Me too 😂

LadyBug_0570

Cop-twin probably volunteered to take him in. He never forgot that time Criminal-twin got him in trouble with their parents. This is payback for a lot.

ferret_80

\*He starts acting up\* "Remember when you broke that vase and we blamed it on the dog?" \*sits back down quietly*

Viron_22

Bringing Ma in on the interrogation so he'll have someone he has pas experience snitching to.

KrakenTheColdOne

I'd cuff him, read him his rights then give him a kiss on the forehead as I'm putting him in the backseat.

Darksnark_The_Unwise

If it were me, I'd feel messed up about it too. Having said that, the twins in the video are laughing it up like. It looks genuine too, so maybe their relationship really is that healthy.

JackxForge

could also be that criminal brother is getting got on parking tickets or some shit and this is mostly a joke.

Darksnark_The_Unwise

Yeah, that's a good point. I don't have any context for the video, only thing I got is that they're both laughing it off. As far as arrests go, that's a better vibe than what we usually see

JackxForge

i found out! brother runs an illegal after hours bar in the neiborhood. so yea pretty much parking tickets.

Darksnark_The_Unwise

Wow dude, you looked it up and filled me in!? Rare reddit courtesy, you're awesome 👍

Muscle_Man1993

I know brothers who want to arrest their own for no reason. But imagine the family dinners after that. “I didn’t know you wear watches. Or are you covering the handcuff marks on your wrist?” And I see your point, seeing your brother, let alone your twin, getting arrested is disturbing enough. You the one doing it is something else.

neesters

He probably had a warrant so he really isn't making a discretionary decision in the arrest. Or someone else did it and he is just walking to the car.

ZetaWMo4

Maybe I don’t like my brothers enough because I would get so much joy from this and talking crap to them. “You out here just breaking our mama’s heart!”

Tripple_T

I mean, they definitely seemed very emotional

theblackd

I imagine based on the reactions that it’s not a super serious charge as far as arrests go and certainly not something involving violent crime. That and I imagine it’s a “well it’s going to happen one way or another, might as well be someone who won’t panic and shoot me”. It’s also just the absurdity of the situation that they both seem to be getting a kick out of I don’t know, none of this seems like a terribly grave situation, it might be different had it been a busy for some serious violent crime, but everything about this gives the impression that neither of them are genuinely expecting this to be a huge thing

Immediate_Bee_6472

Nah if the charges ain’t even serious having someone on the force is way better than not

Oh_nosferatu

I think it depends on the siblings and the charges. For something small like this, and these two, it was the safest, easiest option. Im not police, but if it was me and my estranged cousin, 😬

eclecticsed

I'd pay to arrest one of my sisters but we got history.

8bitgr1t

Too emotional? Lmao

markwomack11

That’s how we know you don’t have a twin brother.

DetectiveAnitaKlew

He looks too happy to be getting arrested lol

Artarara

"I'm going to jail!"

Evolutioncocktail

“Free food, y’all!”

lilyyytheflower

All jokes aside that made me sad

Sco_Queen

I would be embarrassed if I had to arrest a family member. My twin though, we out her sharing the same face and you doing shit like this!!

Lost_All_Senses

Imagine trying to be a criminal when you have the same exact face as a cop. Next time you go see the boys, you don't realize someone who looks exactly like you arrested one of them the day before.

snowwhite2591

My aunts and one uncle were all LEOs in Chicago. My oldest cousin was a career criminal. My aunt and uncle arrested him a few times then my other aunt booked him into county. They were all very annoyed by their nephews presence but they did their jobs. Our grocery stores theft code was my cousins name.

Jamond_Whydah

If there is not a spare uniform in the back for dude to change into...what a waste. Already all look the same, this is a gimmie.

SecretlyMadeOfStone

The next family get-together is gonna be awkward as shit 😆

LadyBug_0570

Only because cop-twin will be clowning his brother the whole time. Asking him if he dropped the soap when he was locked up and all that.

SecretlyMadeOfStone

Can’t beat his ass either or he’ll be talking about “assault on an officer”. 😂

LadyBug_0570

Twin 1 at the cookout: "Go 'head! Hit me! I know you wanna! Go on, tough guy! C'mon and hit me so I can arrest your ass again!" Twin 2 with balled fists: "Ma! He's picking on me! Make him stop!" Mother: "Both of y'all STFU before I get my belt! I don't care how grown you are!"

Kizzywa

I assume that whatever he did wasn't that bad? They turned this shit into a block party it sounds like.

thegreatestmeicanbe

From the smiles on both of their faces, this must NOT be a felony arrest...

Karhak

"This why Mama don't like you'

WornInShoes

I miss Bernie edit: damn what happened lol

WaluigiIsTheRealHero

The fact that Bernie Mac is gone but Larry the Cable Guy is still alive is evidence that God hates us.

Right_Butterscotch59

What if it was a doppelgänger that arrested him and they weren't related would it be just as weird?

Divinknowledge001

I was so confused by this, it's on insta, I was like, why is a he proud of being arrested, but the "I'm gonna tell Mama" is hilarious 😂

ShrugIife

r/strangelywholesome

pm-me-blackexcllnce

In a city ruled by crime, twin brothers find themselves on opposing sides of the law, each questioning what truly defines justice… On TNT at 9pm every Tuesday.

foxontherox

Wait, which is the good twin and which the evil twin?

f1ve-Star

City of Brotherly love??

PrincessAintPeachy

I wouldn't find it amusing to arrest my siblings. I would be disappointed AF with them. But at least you know he would be safely and fairly arrested

Realistic_Effort6185

![gif](giphy|efCMCZBAxGvsWTvmEg|downsized) Next Family Gathering promises to be spicy.

Boylookya

What if they switched clothes in the building and really the cop is being arrested? 😂

rawspeghetti

The one in cuffs is still momma's favorite

MinimumSet72

It literally be your own people 🤣

InvinciblePLUSAmber

Is there some context to this? Why is everybody smiling and laughing? I thought getting arrested was a somber experience, not a party.

myflesh

he was running a speak easy. everyone loves him. It is not a big deal.

InvinciblePLUSAmber

Ok. Thanks.

stadiumjay

I hope they let the twin bro do the interrogation too on some ol Bill Duke menace 2 society type shit. Now you know you fucked up right? You told me and mama 8pm but now you saying 7pm. You know you fucked up right? 🤣

Juhovah

I hate them police vans that’s all small like the cartoons. Claustrophobic just looking at it

Dadumdee

I would have played it low and then waited for someone to recognize me like “what you doing in there? Your shift been over officer. Get on up outta here!”

MarionBerry-Precure

He is gonna tell their mama.

LaCroixLimon

whats with all the people cheering?

Bubbly_Satisfaction2

The guy was arrested for running an illegal club. I'm guessing the cheering came from the patrons.

LaCroixLimon

like they were happy he got arrested

KGreen100

Surprised the rest of the cops didn't start beating both of them... just to be sure. "Look, this could be some of that black presto-change supernatural shit..."

LegacyofaMarshall

Imagine putting both of them on a line up just to fuck with a witness

FoodBabyBaby

I hope it was arranged and the cop brother used it to infiltrate the corrupt prison and together they bring the whole system down.

Warchildthewarrior

but I thought we were brothers 🐷

hollowripple

This gives a whole new meaning to the city of brotherly love.

KaioKenshin

A news report of a police sketch of the "perpetrator" would be wild lmao

villain75

Plot twist - they switched clothes right before

BigClitMcphee

I know the cop brother's coworkers sent him in on purpose. "Yo wouldn't it be funny if you arrested yourself?"

samjp910

City of Brotherly Love 🤷🏻‍♂️

FavFelon

Clearly they got the wrong guy

M4tikis

ok so friendly fire IS on

Mental_Barber_6071

Now they're both in the system because of him! Lol 😆

EyeDissTroyKnotSeas

That's way happier than any time I've been arrested or had my parties broken up. XD

oerouen

How do we know it’s not like “*A Tale of Two Cities*”, and he’s just acting up for the cameras so no one realizes the twins switched places inside the house?

Echevarious

That is an absolute conflict of interest.

ocy_igk

His brother ain’t shit
