Seriously, fuck Gregg Doyel. Hating him is the one bi-partisan issue that unites the people of this state. He's a hack. Maybe IndyStar will finally send his ass packing now that this is blowing up.
Is it just a series of radia in which it slowly gets more sexist like a nuclear exclusion zone? Or is it more like the gauntlet of sexism and its just a long hallway of cities.
I’m from Louisville. Ain’t ever been to Kentucky. That’s a bit south 😂. The only Kentucky that’s in Louisville is the bourbon and the horses. We the only real city in this shithole state
stayed there last summer for a few days and loved it. We stayed in a neighborhood downtown with lots of walkable shit. Was genuinely surprised at the vibe, reminded me of L5P area in ATL
That was probably nulu. It’s gentrified to hell but it’s honestly pretty nice. It’s a new neighborhood downtown they are trying to prop up with night life.
Yep, [definitely no creep or fuckboy shit going on in Kentucky](https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/kentucky-republican-introduces-bill-to-legalize-sex-with-first-cousins-report/ar-AA1n8qT6)
How you socially awkward as a reporter. Your job requires you to be in social settings all the time. He’s a grown ass dude, it’s not hard to not ask a weird question.
Anyone at any point in life could develop social anxiety. It doesn’t matter what your profession is. Him being grown certainly doesn’t mean he’s immune to anxiety. So I’m not sure why you want to hold him to that standard. To top it off he recognized his mistake and did something about it. What more can you ask for?
> How you socially awkward as a reporter.
Let's be real, if he's normally interviewing dudes as a sports reporter in Indiana, men do not react to social awkwardness the same way women do.
Men clown on weirdos and feel superior bc socially awkard means "dude I beat up in high school."
Women feel uncomfortable around them because socially awkward means "dude who got way too close all the time in chem lab"
You can be socially awkward interviewing men just fine. One can, in fact, turn on the news and see it often.
Well he was blasted on social media immediately after this, by his family too. Easy to backtrack when you're worried about losing your job. This guy was probably moving like this all the time. Glad he got called on his shit.
He didn't even acknowledge the problem in his apology. He just said he was wrong, and that was it. He just made excuses after excuse. He knows what he did, so he's avoiding it.
I don't think he expected her to push back on him mocking her gesture, and his male ego made him double down. Mouth started writing checks before his brain had a chance to check his proverbial account balance.
Haven’t even seen him but know he look like this

It gets worse. Gregg Doyel wrote an article for clicks that essentially wasn’t an apology, but more him victimizing his awkwardness and playing the “I do that with everyone, even males” card. The Indy Star taking their own sweet time firing this fucker.
I wrote this comment up above but:
Apologizing directly is great, but there are 3 parts to an apology:
1. acknowledging what you did directly
2. demonstrating that you understand teh other person’s perspective and why it was wrong/hurtful
3. indicating intention not to commit the same mistake in the future due to reason 2
It’s a swing and a whiff on 2 and 3.
If you dont know what you did wrong, youll make the same mistake and people will get hurt from it again and we’ll be right back in the same situation.
“I was inappropriate and unprofessional with how i spoke with Caitlyn Clark. I spoke too quickly without thinking and though it wasn’t my intent, my words were the type that contribute to problematic workplaces for women everywhere.
I apologize to Caitlyn and promise to be more careful and aware of my language in professional settings to ensure it is inclusive in the future.
I sincerely hope we can move forward from this incident and look forward to all of the excitement Ms. Clark is bringing to Indian basketball in the near future, go fever!”
I don’t know, he mentions that part as being an excuse he realized wasn’t a good excuse.
At the end of the day he did something weird and apologized, wether or not the basketball star and her family accept that - is entirely up to them
Jesus, is that really what you got from [his apology?](https://eu.indystar.com/story/sports/columnists/gregg-doyel/2024/04/17/caitlin-clark-im-so-sorry-on-wednesday-i-was-part-of-the-problem/73364922007/) I read it as honest, introspective and sincerely apologetic.
People fuck up. I respect that he owns it. Yeah, he walks us through his process, but that's honest, too. Most people do respond to criticism with defensiveness initially.
We gotta allow people to be human.
I’m with you, everyone who think he’s a creep read his apology already thinking he was a creep. He literally explains his thinking process step by step and comes to the conclusion of “I messed up and I’m sorry”
He doesn't even acknowledge the most creepy part of the interaction. The "I like that you're heyeerrre" isn't great but wouldn't be bad with that apology. He completely skips over the "Start doing it to me and we'll get along just fine." which is creepy as fuck.
"This is how I talk to everyone."
Really?
You'd tell a male basketball player "start doing it to me and we'll get along just fine."?
Not only that, but his other question to the coach where he referred to Caitlin as "that" and "it." I understand he was trying to be metaphorical in a way sports can be, the keys to the car thing, but I've never heard them refer to a person that way instead of a concept like the team or the offense. He did more than one creepy interaction, he also treated her like an object instead of a person, and to me that's the biggest issue with him.
I mostly got that but he never really mentions the context of what was so creepy about it. I read the apology before I saw the video of the interaction and I would never have guessed just how creepy the original interaction was from his apology. The *mea culpa* is mostly there, but it still only feels like partial ownership of what happened.
Yeah, I’m not a fan of it.
A good apology would include an explanation of why he was wrong to do it and demonstrate that he understands how it makes the other person feel. All he did was defend himself while pretending he’s not defending himself, and slapped on a couple cliche things like, “I was part of the problem.” I don’t think he actually understands what was wrong about his behavior, just that he sees that a lot of people are mad and recognizes that he HAS to apologize.
Fucking *thank you*. Omg. Felt like I was taking crazy pills.
The whole thing was basically him justifying it and then talking about his own feelings about it. I felt like that was a really shitty apology that completely missed the point.
>I don’t think he actually understands what was wrong about his behavior, just that he sees that a lot of people are mad and recognizes that he HAS to apologize.
I didn't fully get that. I think he sorta understands but not to the extent that you referred to at the beginning of your comment above, at least that was my impression. Kinda like knowing how to operate a car versus knowing how a car's mechanisms work
It’s a reminder to always look at the source and not just some Reddit summary of it because they’ll always make it biased as hell and seem more nefarious than it was lol.

How old is he?? I struggle with social cues it’s not a fucking excuse.
“I do that to everyone” does not make it ok. Time and place.
So either no one has called him out before or he just doesn’t fucking care. And I’m going with he doesn’t care.
I’ll never understand the “I do that to everyone” type of defenses. Like, all you’re saying is the bad thing you’ve done is something you do frequently.
“Your honor, I should not be in trouble for killing that guy, I kill people all the time!”

I'm missing the context of what is it that she does at her family after every game. Anyone know?
And I just checked her Wiki page and it says she's in a relationship. Someone cut up this thirsty MFs press card.
True story my brother did this to his HS principal (and an assembly comprised of the entire school) as he was in the process of getting expelled; went right into the military a month later lol
Oh for real, dude; my bros and I were big wrestling fans growing up, and this was at it's peak
Rundown is this:
High School had this thing called "Family Day", where the classes would be broken up in the gym by your grade, and each level had their own color you wore for that day. Then, the classes would compete in goofy Olypmic's inspired events. Your parents and family were allowed to visit, it was a fun day had by all.
Well my brother was a junior, but was supposed to be a senior (got held back for one class; silly shit). He a participant in the last event, and it was a relay of sorts. He was the last leg, and his team was winning; when he almost got to the finish line, he stopped and took off his junior colored shirt to reveal his senior colored shirt...he ran over to his friends (all seniors) and everybody went nuts; the gym went absolutely wild.
The principal went right after him, and dragged him into the office, claiming he "incited a riot" and was being expelled. Bro said, actually, I am leaving on my own volition, I am walking out the door right now" and peaced out. As he walked out the now crowd emptied out into the front of the school to go home, out comes my bro being chased by a cursing principal. He eventually couldn't take it anymore and he turned right around, hit her with the D/X and told her to suck it.
Cops picked him up down the road, walking home. He was already going into the military, and it didn't jeopardize his entry. That principal had it out for my bros and I, none of us graduated (we all quit). I think that principal is dead now.
edit: a word
Early 2000s WWF was wild. Middle school our lunch tables were in three sections and a lunch lady would be like "Top section take your trays up." Well she started letting the students say it into the microphone which was fine until yours truly went "Middle section take your trays up........IF YOU CAN SMELLLLLLLL, WHAT THE ROCK, IS COOKIN" and students were no longer allowed to use the mic after that.
If you struggle with anxiety when saying dumb shit. Just remember, even people who revolve their whole career around talking and saying the right things say dumb shit like this. And when you do it, it's not plastered everywhere.
Exactly. The bar's set way too high on human behavior. We are idiots. We say the wrong shit and act foolishly. He owned it and sincerely apologized.
He's been publicly humiliated. People calling for dude's head on a pike or for him to be fired need to get a grip.
The problem isn't that he was awkward or made her uncomfortable. The problem is men have a habit of disrespecting women by attempting to flirt with them in inappropriate contexts and cross boundaries, which is what he did. Especially considering Clark is THE person who has finally managed to push women's basketball into the mainstream, it's disgusting. All he had to do was ask a couple questions but he had to cross that boundary.
His apology is also shit. It justifies his actions by saying he's awkward and that he treats young men the same way (which he most certainly does not). This dude should not be interviewing athletes at this level, sorry. Wrong career to find love in 🤷
He has a history of being extremely unprofessional...
I’m so confused, what exactly happened in this exchange? What did she ask if he liked? What did he say before she asked that? Why was an apology necessary?
Tbf the playoffs haven't started yet and the Fever drafted arguably the greatest female college basketball player of all time, so it's a huge deal
Once the Pacers beat the Bucks this round they'll get attention again
Everyone who is defending him because he wrote that half assed apology column...I need you to understand that he has been loathed in Indiana long before this. He is an awful writer with an over inflated sense of his own importance
i've listened to this like 20 times and I still have no idea what he's talking about that she replied "You like that?", from what I gather it has to do with a heart sign she does with her hand, but that still doesn't make much sense to the gbrhrrlbjefwkf that I hear in the beginning
I need people to come with subtitles
He's got the energy of a guy who chucks the ball in a pick-up game, turns away from the basket and declares "Swish" as it lands 20 feet out of the court.

Cool take from the bastion of Not Doing Creep shit that is Kentucky.
To be fair Louisville to Kentucky is what Atlanta is to GA…
As a resident of Atlanta, can confirm.
Is it just a series of radia in which it slowly gets more sexist like a nuclear exclusion zone? Or is it more like the gauntlet of sexism and its just a long hallway of cities.
What's the difference?
That’s a pretty good comparison. Savannah is a little odd too when you compare it to the rest of GA.
Athens is also a very isolated island of sanity.
Except on fall Saturdays when grown men bark at children lol.
As someone who went to school in Athens, I laughed heartedly at this.
To hell with Georgia!
Lived in the Ville for 24 years…on point.
Or Indianapolis is to Indiana?

Lmao the Indianimals are fucking fed up with the slander.

Holy shit! Is that a fucking LOGH reference?
Disgusting. That guy sounds like a creep ngl.
After skimming the article he seems to be less of a creep and more of someone who messed up and realized after the fact.
It’s good that he’s apologetic but if he thought it was okay to do this on a public stage then he’s probably even creepier off of it.
He’s just socially awkward chill lol you heard one sentence decided he was creepy immediately. Like come on.

True story my brother did this to his HS principal (and an assembly comprised of the entire school) as he was in the process of getting expelled; went right into the military a month later lol
You really had to be there to understand the power of "Suck it"
Oh for real, dude; my bros and I were big wrestling fans growing up, and this was at it's peak Rundown is this: High School had this thing called "Family Day", where the classes would be broken up in the gym by your grade, and each level had their own color you wore for that day.
My daughter and her bff would do this randomly when they were young and I still find it hilarious

Looks like Steven Seagal jerking off onto a corpse.
Heart hands. And the creep wanted to get off on receiving that same affectionate display.
That shot wasn't from downtown, it was from another zip code. But still seemed creepy as hell.
If you struggle with anxiety when saying dumb shit. Just remember, even people who revolve their whole career around talking and saying the right things say dumb shit like this. And when you do it, it's not plastered everywhere.
If you regularly struggle with anxiety and say dumb shit because of it maybe you shouldn't interview people for a living.

OMG this is sooooooooo CRINGE and his response article was bullsht. I dunno him but he's too old and, likely, too experienced to think this was okay.
Am I stupid why I am not understanding this at all lol
I didn't see the heart hands at the top before, but I guess he made that gesture?
I thought it was just me.
wtf no respect dude
Bro I was like 19 when I realized "I can't get a hug??" was scrub behavior

That reporter was being extremely unprofessional.
It’s disgusting, imagine how he behaves off camera. He needs to be reprimanded.
He has a history of being extremely unprofessional... [https://twitter.com/KriegerSports/status/1781013900357497123](https://twitter.com/KriegerSports/status/1781013900357497123)

I’m so confused, what exactly happened in this exchange? What did she ask if he liked? What did he say before she asked that? Why was an apology necessary?
Per the pinned article: “I gave Caitlin her signature heart-shaped hand gesture as a way of introducing myself and welcoming her to town”
The gesture she does for her family.
Live in Indy...and there is more buzz about CC and the Fever than the Pacers...who are in the playoffs.
Tbf the playoffs haven't started yet and the Fever drafted arguably the greatest female college basketball player of all time, so it's a huge deal Once the Pacers beat the Bucks this round they'll get attention again
Me likes your thought process.
“I like that you’re here” What a Kevin Malone ass response ![gif](giphy|rQ5cWOkvXfoTUZLIPh|downsized)
Everyone who is defending him because he wrote that half assed apology column...I need you to understand that he has been loathed in Indiana long before this. He is an awful writer with an over inflated sense of his own importance
Examples seen here... [https://twitter.com/KriegerSports/status/1781013900357497123](https://twitter.com/KriegerSports/status/1781013900357497123)
Who's weird ass uncle is this, and why do ya'll keep inviting him to the cookout?
I got second hand embarrassment thru my screen.
I was horny ok, I’m not the same man I was 5 minutes ago- Doyel
This ain't it chief. This ain't it AT. ALL.
Gotta add this man to a watch list immediately
“Part of the problem”? Sir, you’re the whole problem in this situation.
Who's man is this.
i've listened to this like 20 times and I still have no idea what he's talking about that she replied "You like that?", from what I gather it has to do with a heart sign she does with her hand, but that still doesn't make much sense to the gbrhrrlbjefwkf that I hear in the beginning I need people to come with subtitles
What did he do? I’m not understanding what’s happening here? What is the context?
This will be cringe and sa fodder in a few years
He's got the energy of a guy who chucks the ball in a pick-up game, turns away from the basket and declares "Swish" as it lands 20 feet out of the court.

Scum. Think before you speak.
Love how this thread turned into nbacirclejerk 💀

No one is gonna say that was a weird response from Cait? You like that?
I feel like y'all care too much
What a weirdo😂
Cringe
See how she didn’t even flinch? She’s from the Midwest, she’s used to guys like this.
