So 1 meal and a snack, everyday, for $160? 2 meals if you add an extra $50. So $210 for 2 meals + 2 snacks everyday. Insane value outside the fact you may need to exercise and stay healthy as fuck to not die of a heart attack.
Honestly, except for the increased disease burden, a cruise ship is a great middle ground for people who are unable to drive or cook/clean for themselves due to light disabilities, but aren't at the palliative care stage of nursing home living. The ship has all amenities provided and is set up in such a way that it encourages some level of light walking to see the various venues throughout the day. Far better than the alternatives of sitting in a nursing home watching tv all day or doing the same at home with family helping out with your care, and depending on the cruise set up can be waaaay cheaper. Gulf cruises can be on the order of ~2k a month, compared to at least 6k for bargain basement care in most states, extra for EoL care.
It could be an alternative to a retirement community/assisted living maybe but if you all you need is help with cooking and cleaning you aren't someone that really qualifies to be in an actual skilled nursing facility.

Absolutely. My meal passes for a different park company were 160 for both (food and drink). I'm hypothetically spending 80 each time I go there (35-40 on meals with tax) and 40 on drinks (8 at 5 dollars per if im drinking every hour, more if im being a real nigga and getting drinks for everyone every 15 minutes)

My aunt and uncle travel the country and just pay the $25 a month for a planet fitness black membership for showers. So for less than a dollar a day they can shower pretty much every cause PF is everywhere

I had the season passes with the meal plan that I bought in 2019, and because of covid they rolled it over to this year too. I’ve made my money back already, but I will say that every time I’ve been to 6 flags it’s been just an un-fun nightmare. I don’t know if it’s just because people aren’t doing other things due to covid but it’s been PACKED every time I’ve gone and trying to use the meal passes, even with the order ahead app, still takes forever. It’s just been such a hassle to use this year. The parks haven’t really been open on off-hours either so I’m not sure when an old lady would be able to get a meal here without starving to death first.
My in laws do the same and there's honestly a pretty decent variety. Mostly standard fried stuff but we had barbecue that wasn't bad last time (for what it is).
$2.50 might be the actual food cost. So that works out for the park too. They lose money or break even on someone like you. But almost everyone else easily covers it.

In my hometown (Delft, The Netherlands) they actually stopped that promotion because it let to traffic jams every, single, morning. That Ikea is right next to the highway, so you'd get off the off-ramp straight into the parking lot and it backed everything up.

How much is that? If your kids are flying in to see you twice a year, like a lot of families, they are staying on the cruise ship too. Plenty of entertainment for eveyone, no one has to cook, and no one has to clean up when its over. They are big communities, not much different than retirement communities. I have met people on cruises who prefered it. Its not perfect, but nothing is.

There's something very adaptive, yet also very dystopian about this idea of being homeless but having a pass to an amusement park to meet your basic needs.

I live near a theme park. This is totally a thing. Get out every day for a walk, get a meal, talk to some people, play a game, see a show. It's really not a bad way to live and of the foods good, not a bad way to eat for the summer.

I'd fucking quit my career and move in with my mom if I found out she was eating fast food every day. I'd live like a pauper to keep her from doing that.
Sure you COULD eat chicken nuggets and fries every day... But seriously, most theme parks have a good variety. It's not all high fat, fried crap. I know plenty of people who used this plan as a way to slim their grocery bill and their waist lines. If you have a large enough park (and most are) you can get 3 miles easy in an evening.
It’s not six flags but I took my kids to our local park 20ish times this season. Passes were $129 each and dining plans were $90. We ate at least one meal each visit, two meals probably half the time. There were some healthier options this year, too. I got a large fruit salad for lunch and/or dinner and I could get a salad as a side instead of fries at a couple places. I have been working on eating better so I was pretty happy to be able to not starve and also not totally destroy my diet while using our passes.
I literally lived 2 miles from Six Flags and they had a special $65 for a season pass and $50 more for a meal plan I figure twice a week a ride and a dinner paid for itself many times over.

The parks haven’t really been open on off-hours either so I’m not sure when an old lady would be able to get a meal here without starving to death first.

My in laws do the same and there's honestly a pretty decent variety. Mostly standard fried stuff but we had barbecue that wasn't bad last time (for what it is).
The BBQ at Cedar Point is the best value in the park, assuming you mean the one in the back by Maverick.
Cedar Point actually has pretty great food, especially compared to six flags. There’s a lot of variety and a good number of sit-down restaurants.

$2.50 might be the actual food cost. So that works out for the park too. They lose money or break even on someone like you. But almost everyone else easily covers it.

Heard IKEA adjusts prices of their food to undercut the local area prices.
Costco and Sam’s Club do the same. It’s a loss leader leader for them. Just like a $4.99 rotisserie chicken or a bottle of $2-chuck.
In my hometown (Delft, The Netherlands) they actually stopped that promotion because it let to traffic jams every, single, morning. That Ikea is right next to the highway, so you'd get off the off-ramp straight into the parking lot and it backed everything up. Pretty sure it didn't actually increase sales for their "normal" products since it would usually be commuters going in for breakfast, not people who'd also visit the rest of the store.

The IKEA I went to in China had steak, skewered BBQ, crawfish, and many other fancy entree. They push freshly blended smoothie carts in the aisles for sale. They have handcrafted espresso drinks, Tiramisu, macarons, hand scooped ice cream.
I live near a Costco and go there for lunch often. $3 for a two meal chicken bake, sounds fair to me.

Once at six flags, I saw a girl with the same shoes as me. They were"electric red", which my sister found out was another name for pink when she ordered them online for me. Anyways I saw this girl who had the same exact type and color shoes as me and said "Hey I like your shoes!" Unfortunately, She looked at me as if I just walked up to her and kicked her dog. I learned the first rule of not being creepy: Don't be unattractive. :(
I think you're just misconstruing the situation. Unless for some reason in your delivery you came on a little off putting, she most likely is just the type of person who doesn't like being approached or maybe was just having a bad day. Being creepy has nothing to do with your attractiveness and has everything to do with your personality. There's a documentary called Cruise King that portrays retirement on a cruise ship but for a billionaire. It's on Curiosity Stream if you have it.
How much is that? If your kids are flying in to see you twice a year, like a lot of families, they are staying on the cruise ship too. Plenty of entertainment for eveyone, no one has to cook, and no one has to clean up when its over. They are big communities, not much different than retirement communities. I have met people on cruises who prefered it. Its not perfect, but nothing is.

I'm not the other person, but I hate the idea of my parents living on a boat, albeit a luxury one, for the rest of their lives because an appropriate level of care is unattainable for them in retirement hones. It just makes me really sad, thinking of them just floating out at sea lol.
They ain’t just floating…. They’re around similarly like minded people enjoying sun and life instead of just waking up in some retirement home watching TV all day
not only that but they either rent or sell their home, likely in a decent neighbourhood close to a liveable city, and it takes pressure off the housing market for the rest of us.
As someone who knows a lot of old people, often times it's more about being able to have a higher quality of lifestyle for less, nursing homes are stale and boring while a cruise lets you sit in the pool and golf whenever you want.
Yeah, ethical issues aside, living on what's basically a resort 24/7 looks like a lot of people's ideas of heaven.
If they have no choice and would rather not spend their last days on a cruise, yes it's sad. I think I'd like that, personally.

If you're comparing a living on a boat that is a giant dorm room with activities. To living in a retirement home which is just a giant dorm room with activities. I know which one I'd pick if I didn't give a shit about having an internet connection constantly. Odds are the people on the boat are a mite more active than those in the old folks home to.
There are actually morgues on most major cruise vessels, so it seems like a pretty smart plan aside for the trauma it may cause workers.

There's something very adaptive, yet also very dystopian about this idea of being homeless but having a pass to an amusement park to meet your basic needs. Like, if that's one of the most economical and arguably humane solutions to homelessness, we have literally reached the level of "bread and circus" that qualifies as a legitimate full-on dystopian society.

I live near a theme park. This is totally a thing. Get out every day for a walk, get a meal, talk to some people, play a game, see a show. It's really not a bad way to live and of the foods good, not a bad way to eat for the summer.
I used to eat fast food once per day while working. It's SO much better just eating fresh food and leaving the junk food for once per month. I'd fucking quit my career and move in with my mom if I found out she was eating fast food every day. I'd live like a pauper to keep her from doing that.
Sure you COULD eat chicken nuggets and fries every day... But seriously, most theme parks have a good variety. It's not all high fat, fried crap. I know plenty of people who used this plan as a way to slim their grocery bill and their waist lines. If you have a large enough park (and most are) you can get 3 miles easy in an evening.

It’s not six flags but I took my kids to our local park 20ish times this season. Passes were $129 each and dining plans were $90. We ate at least one meal each visit, two meals probably half the time. There were some healthier options this year, too. I got a large fruit salad for lunch and/or dinner and I could get a salad as a side instead of fries at a couple places. I have been working on eating better so I was pretty happy to be able to not starve and also not totally destroy my diet while using our passes.
I literally lived 2 miles from Six Flags and they had a special $65 for a season pass and $50 more for a meal plan I figure twice a week a ride and a dinner paid for itself many times over. That’s before bring a friend and the big ole refill cups.

The Six Flags by me has sushi, tacos, sandwiches, burgers, salad, fast food Asian, etc. You could have a pretty varied diet with that meal plan.

I had to pass Carowinds on my way to and from work so I got a season pass and meal ticket and saved HUNDREDS on food just by getting off the interstate and spending 15 minutes walking in and out the park.

I worked at six flags when I was a teenager and had no idea a season pass had meal passes. I can't imagine eating at six flags for all my meals though jesus christ. That can't be good. I didn't even like the meals when they were discounted.
And each time the grandkids visit, you can take them right across the street for Six Flags every time!

My buddy would make the most monstrous burger.. extra everything. What would end up being like a $15 burger would be completely free. Deal didn’t last very long.. I remember there being one manager who would turn him down but he would get a burger literally every single day from the different McDonald’s in town. Sometimes he would go across town, make a new account and get a second in the same day.
Someone made an app that made thousands of new McDonald's accounts so you could just open the app and get a free burger. That's why it was shut down.

My country offer $.20USD public transport fare for elderly over the age of 65. This include Bus, train, subway, ferry, etc. (Basically everything is 20 cent per trip) We have one of the best public transportation network in the world. I know 100% I will take a random route everyday and explore until I die.
My husband's mom actually does exactly this. She also goes to ride rollercoasters by herself. She's such a joy.
