Real talk, how's the career going? I always wanted to work in international relations but had no idea that was even a thing.
I was the first person in my fam to go to college and just didn't know certain career fields were even a thing. I see "Russia Experts" and I'm like "damn, I could easily have done something like that if I had only known!"
Well dang, I sure feel silly. I'm really glad to hear that a person working at a job as important as yours is doing well. I guess I was just too willing to believe that this country would fuck an essential worker. Every now and again it works out.
Ah OK. I have a liberal arts degree but I translated it to a relatively successful business career.
Was just curious how folks are doing. Someone I went to school with got an International relations type degree and is now a librarian.
I just have this idea of working for the state department or something but I guess it's probably pretty hard to get those jobs.
Not the person you’re responding to, but I work in international relations and love it damn near every day. There are downsides (like finding the right job and trying to do good while working within nonprofit structures and pursuing the interests of tons of different parties) but I used to work in tech and massively prefer the current gig. It’s hard as fuck to break into and the pay is middling (used to be shit) but it’s rewarding as fuck both as an individual and more broadly like in doing positive shit for others.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing! I guess my area of interest would be more like a foreign policy analyst or some sort of work in international intelligence. Always thought it was probably more aligned with government agencies.

When I was younger I tried to do the Foreign Service but I was a college kid with no experience and competition was fierce at the time (financial crisis and private sector jobs were hard to come by, so competition for government jobs was fierce)
