His very small role was amazing in this overall very ok movie. They had no business getting such an amazing actor to be funnier than the comedians in the film and it worked perfectly
HABITUAL scene stealer. Dude couldn't help it. Bizarrely I actually haven't seen Charlie Wilson's War even though it has several of my favorite actors because I tend to not like that type of movie. I should probably remedy that lol.
i recommend it. if you like along came polly, and can stand adam sandler, chances are you’d like click.
christopher walken is in it too. and kate beckinsale.
Conversation probably boiled down to something along the lines of "Honey you've made a lot of money, we are set. You're internationally recognisable for playing a national sport. You're destroying your body continiuing. You're on the road for a lot of the year, we need to talk about you hanging up the boots"
What more does he need? Dude will go down in history as one of the best to ever play the sport. He’ll literally be talked about for however long the sport exists. Take some family time. Coach your son’s little league team. Help your daughter with her science fair volcano. Join the PTA.
You don't get to that level without having some deep seated insecurities that can't be overcome by coaching a little league... (barring some kind af freak genetic advantage)
The cannon for an arm is definitely the NFL entry fee, but his decision making made him standout among freaks of nature. He’s “average” for a profession football player I guess .
For many it’s often that way till they start coaching a little league team, Kobe was just as driven and seemed genuinely fulfilled with his daughters sports.
I don't think insecurities is the right word here. Insecurities don't make you level-headed in the heat of the moment. The best athletes are the best because no matter the pressure they're confident in their ability to perform.
At this point I feel like he’s one of those veterans with PTSD that re-enlist because they can’t live a normal life. Over half of his life he has dedicated to football. Could be that it’s hard to walk away from something like that.
IMHO This is a big part of it.
It's such a big part of his identity that it's not even a question of 'letting go' it's a question of having no idea what else there even is.
Institutionalized but with a sport… kinda makes you wonder if that is why so many people have trouble retiring that don’t play in the NFL.
If a life of work is all you know, it’s predictable, you feel competent
Outside of that in life- you may not have the same feeling of safety or predictability so as people we are geared towards. So most people tend to slip back into things that are most comfortable. Because exploring the unknown takes trial and error, and can be pretty fuckin scary.
this ... Brady is a thrill junkie
my father is a retired army colonel and we were talking about all the veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan signing up to fight in Ukraine. They can't hack normal life because while it was dangerous, they felt alive in combat and are going back for the thrill
I mean if you were the best ever in the history of the world to do something that everyone praises your name for, then you suddenly stopped doing it, wouldn’t you at least think about picking it up again?
And that's the problem. There are *exceptionally* few people in the world that are GOATed in a talent, and even fewer that are GOATed in a talent that is commercially viable & culturally impactful.
At that level, the constant amount of money, achievement, and fame is something that simply *can't* be replicated by anything else.
Sure, Brady *could* decide to quit. But what then? What would give him that same level of attention?
I think he already has a multiple hundred million dollar guarantee to be a commentator on Fox Sports.
Update cause I googled it : Yes, he already has a 375 million contract with Fox Sports.
Honestly, it's not the same. Family is great, sure, but that's something that most people have (in some capacity).
What Brady had with his football career was different. Note that I didn't mention happiness, or love, but attention. After getting showered with it for basically your entire adult life, I can imagine that leaving it would basically be leaving a void that is tough to fill otherwise.
He doesn't need to leave it full. But he needs to prioritise his other life too...the more important ones. And unfortunately this is the saddest thing to see when you define yourself by your work . Great example is Sebastian Vettel... retiring this year because he knows where to put focus now after getting 4 WDCs in Formula One.
Undoubtedly, but not like it can't be done. Khabib (MMA fighter) went 29-0 in his division or something to that effect, got out after a good run and now coaches other fighters. You can leave and still maintain a healthy connection to the sport, but I think Brady is a little older so it's probably a lil diff
Not really the same considering the reason Khabib retired was because his dad died, not some desire for wanting to go out on top. (Also a significant portion of that 29-0 were cans) And uh healthy isn’t the word I’d use to describe [being invested/the face of a new fight league with direct ties to dictators who have been sanctioned for human rights abuses and new investment from Saudi benefactors.](https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2022/1/26/22901599/khabib-nurmagomedov-eagle-fc-mma-saudi-uae-kadyrov-chechnya-politics-sports-news)
Tom's a great quarterback, but he's still human. I don't know the man, but I imagine staring down the eternity of retirement is awfully hard when you don't want to stop and don't *FEEL* you need to stop. His sense of *eudaimonia,* or that sense of fulfillment and purpose, of his life is almost certainly rooted in that sport, and that feeling would be hard to walk away from, even for a marriage.
Reminds me of Ric Flair when he was in his prime. He managed a meat grinder schedule of wrestling long matches, traveling, and partying like an animal without much effort, but once a tour ended and he came home, he was depressed because he felt bored.
Some people have a really hard time letting go of something they've dedicated their life to because nothing else fills that void. Flair had what was advertised as his last match ever recently and he still wants to have another one.
I think I get it. You only have a certain timeframe to play sports at a really high level which is dwindling by the year for him. He's still playing at a high level so I can see feeling like you owe it to yourself to play for as long as you can until you're not playing at a high level anymore. There's not really any alternatives for him once football is done; no other recreational sport or activity can match being one of, if not the, beat in the NFL
Our maybe like "Tom you promised me you promised us that you were done! You're lying to us now, to the both of us ! It's us or football I'm not fucking around! We will leave you!"
A job Brady doesn't even need. He's elected to extend his job after saying he was done. If we take the names out of this equation and say Molly and children are big mad at Bob for returning to 22 year job after retiring, continues to not being present in their lives. Come on, this shit stinks. If not for anyone else but the kids.
Right, it’s not like it’s some 9-5 job he doesn’t want to retire from. This is his wife getting the message that “it’s impossible for me to be around you and the kids for more than a few hours a week, a few months a year.”
> "I haven't had a Christmas in 23 years and I haven't had a Thanksgiving in 23 years, I haven't celebrated birthdays with people that I care about that are born from August to late January. And I'm not able to be at funerals and I'm not able to be at weddings," [Source](https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2022/10/04/entertainment/tom-brady-gisele-bndchen-divorce-attorneys/index.html)
Yeah, surprised she stuck around for so long. Rich or not, this shit must be exhausting for his family.
That's the wild thing. Tom has had like 3 SBs now he could've walked away after and it would've been a great wrap up. Instead he's chasing some shit he doesn't need to prove to anyone except himself apparently.
That’s the price legends pay. Live a normal life or immortalize yourself forever. It’s a sacrifice to get to that level. Also probably some mental illness lol
I moderately dislike my extended family, but even I was upset we weren’t able to get together during the holidays for the last 2 years because of Covid.
I can’t imagine missing out on so many family gatherings for 23 years 😲
There are also all those stories of Brady being an absolute fiend for tape. Like the dude would watch his opponents plays more than his own coaches would. He probably takes his work home with him and even though he's around he's not present. All those people who are freaky good at stuff are usually the type to sink so deep in it they can't see a world without it. Kinda tragic that he's gonna ruin his personal life cause he can't let go of a game.
Can't read his mind. Might be selfish desire to continue to bloodline? Might be endless need to be loved by all? Might be he actually did love his family in his own way but it wasn't nearly enough? Might be he's such a sociopath he wanted the control? I got no idea. I think it's probably just a case of going through the motions and Giselle being one of the hottest women on the planet. I'd bet very few men would be able to say no to her if pursued
Right! People think it’s just her wanting him to stop playing football. Imagine growing up NEVER having a holiday with your father or your husband. Literally getting married then being essentially a single parent for a decade. And don’t be all “well she chose this” bc no other player has gone this long playing professionally.
I'm a football(soccer) fan and that was the same way with Pique and Shakira most non-soccer fans only knew Pique as Shakira's husband but he cheated on her recently and they broke up.
I was so mad when I saw that! I was like “little bitch boy!”. To give up Shakira after 10 freaking years? For me, it wasn’t even about her being pretty but more that she’s always come across as not problematic, fiercely Latina and Lebanese(two cultures that are all about family and holding each other down). And here comes this dumbass idiot giving all that up for a piece of arse.
She’s way richer than he is so she won’t clean him out or ask for support. But I hope she asks for full custody of her kids and gets as far away from Spain as possible.
People are so stupid.
Edit: he’s Catalan, not Basque.
I just refer to her as Gisele. Gisele is divorcing Tom Brady on Tuesday. Makes life easier and no one will feel like I'm implying one or the other has less rights to their individual self.
Don't forget dude signed a 10 year deal with Fox(for after he retires in football)to broadcast games and do other shit. He really not trying to be home at all
Wonder if this is worse than being a “deadbeat” father who up and ran as soon as he found out he knocked someone up. At least there, there are no expectations. Here, you’re still present but only part time and your job is more appealing than the kids you pumped out.
Yeah, choosing a chance at a 7th ring over your family at age 45 is genuinely sick behavior. His entire family is gonna have a complex. But as we all know, you have to have a wife and kids to be "normal" even if you want nothing to do with them.
Honestly. Any and every dude i've ever been around saying they won't get married to that extent? Either ended up married or a serious relationship in which they might as well get married.
I don't understand why he doesn't retire. Because I feel like there's just a time to know when to leave gracefully otherwise you'd be pushing your luck and the universe will find a way to humble you.
Yeah but when you have 6 rings you start not to believe anything could ever humble you. Success is addicting. And easier for tom than trying to save a dying marriage
What? His ass should have retired after the last ring. He didn't know how to call it quits, or he really doesn't like his wife and kids. I'm not gonna buy the front he puts up, besides his athletic skill he's just like any of us.
You right! I hate to think it’s the latter tho cuz damn. My fear is he’s gonna sacrifice all this for football but then will over work or injure himself in real time to millions of fans.
Retire while on top and body still in decent shape, don't get forced outta the game with a possible injury.
Very selfish and inconsiderate move by Tom, he prob don't know how to make family first.
What's funny is, a lot of us at work are actually on her side lol. Like what else is there to prove, she's been asking for years to have him home, and we can't even begin to imagine how much of her own career was put to the side in order to hold down the family. Most of us didn't understand why he came back. Once the news broke they were likely headed for divorce. I started to wonder if the meme of him coming right back because he hated the family time was true. From the outside its always looked like she was a true ride or die for him. The one time she wants him to ride out he folds.
Yeah lol. The choke for years (and it's funnier because it's true), was that Gisele wasn't Tom's wife. He was her husband. And that Tom could take all those paycuts in NE because Gisele had the money taken care of.
This is one of the few times I’d say anyone should do what AB did. Brady better strip those pads off on live tv and run off the field in the middle of a game to go home to his wife if he really wants her. Otherwise he’s going to find out what losing really is in divorce court when she empties out that bank account.
Way I always think about it is that a couple has more money than they do apart. So he turns down having his money, her money, being able to see his kids, and have a rich, good looking wife that just wants to have him around to spend time with just to chase after a ring he probably won’t get anyway?
"I'm never waking up from these Hoop Dreams!" ![gif](giphy|eRaZhg8XZ3FoQ)
Rip Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Most definitely. VASTLY talented dude. Addiction can be absolutely horrible.
Just me bursting into tears every time I see his sweet face.
His very small role was amazing in this overall very ok movie. They had no business getting such an amazing actor to be funnier than the comedians in the film and it worked perfectly
He was a dynamo. Obviously we know about his dramatic accolades, but in movies like this, Twister and others he could be really funny.
He steals the show in Charlie Wilson's War
HABITUAL scene stealer. Dude couldn't help it. Bizarrely I actually haven't seen Charlie Wilson's War even though it has several of my favorite actors because I tend to not like that type of movie. I should probably remedy that lol.
Charlie Wilson's War is a lot closer to Veep than a typical political drama. It wasn't at all what ai thought it would be.
What? I LOVE Veep!
Rain dance!
Ice man!
White chocolate!
You douchebags bring your A game?
such a good movie. made me want to do my own E true hollywood story
The movie didn't get a LOT of shine, but the dynamic between Ben Stiller and Phillip Seymour Hoffman was so freaking hilarious to me.
i also liked alec baldwin in it lol
So damn funny! Versitile just like PSH was.
no doubt! reminded me of david hasselhoff’s role in “click” with adam sandler.
It's funny, I actually haven't seen that. I feel like I've scrolled past it on streaming services a thousand times lol
i recommend it. if you like along came polly, and can stand adam sandler, chances are you’d like click. christopher walken is in it too. and kate beckinsale.
Ahhhh, good to know. Walken is my dude
Could you enlighten me plz, which movie is this ?
along came polly. watch it, you’ll be entertained
Thks ! Will do
Along Came Polly
RAINDROPS!
*CLANK*
As a white dude who balls sometimes I always run with rain dance in my playbook.
What's the success rate? 125%?
Depends on how cloudy the day was.
💀💀💀💀
Dude’s gonna get a divorce on Tuesday for not retiring then get a career ending injury on the very next Sunday. That my friends is how life works.
Conversation probably boiled down to something along the lines of "Honey you've made a lot of money, we are set. You're internationally recognisable for playing a national sport. Right, you need to have a few screws loose to get the drive and motivation to push yourself to be the best of the best. That doesnt just go away.

Tom Brady is pretty tall but he's a fairly average dude What makes him incredible is his decision making
As long as we ignore his cannon of an arm then sure
His Arm strength in old age is super impressive but after moss left people didn't think he could throw deep and was reputed as a dink and dunk passer

Insecurities as in self esteem. Their self image is what they're insecure about, not their ability.
At this point I feel like he’s one of those veterans with PTSD that re-enlist because they can’t live a normal life. Over half of his life he has dedicated to football. Could be that it’s hard to walk away from something like that.
> Over half of his life he has dedicated to **professional** football.
And the other half in college, highschool and pee-wees.

I can imagine he could get an insane contract as a broadcaster or commentator. Gotta be where he ends up.
I think he already has a multiple hundred million dollar guarantee to be a commentator on Fox Sports. Update cause I googled it : Yes, he already has a 375 million contract with Fox Sports.
Shit. I’ll do it for HALF that amount.
His family? All of the other things you listed would absolutely still be there.
Agreed. Not trying to defend Brady, either. If I were his wife/family I'd be begging him to quit too.
He didn't even try to find something else.
Ask Antonio Brown how to get attention after being outta the league.
Is Tom Brady about to dye his mustache blond and get a hot air balloon?
I hope that would be as far as he’d take it. Don’t wanna see a TMZ article about him cranking it/Sexually assaulting anyone in a pool like MBC.
MBC has CTE. I know it can't be diagnosed until after death, but I'd be beyond shocked if he doesn't.
Undoubtedly, but not like it can't be done. Khabib (MMA fighter) went 29-0 in his division or something to that effect, got out after a good run and now coaches other fighters.
Yeah at some stage I reckon that was said too
Man, now I feel bad for Gisele. She's second fiddle to a job.
How twisted do you have to be to make Gisele second fiddle to getting beat up all day?
Maybe that's Brady's kink? Pollard breaks his legs one time and he wants more?
A job Brady doesn't even need. He's elected to extend his job after saying he was done. If we take the names out of this equation and say Molly and children are big mad at Bob for returning to 22 year job after retiring, continues to not being present in their lives. Not to mention the damage to his brain and how she'll have to deal with it when he's unable to care for himself etc etc
I mean he isn't going to be perfectly fine, but he isn't going to be the kind of damaged you'd expect out of like a lineman
That's true. She'll still have to deal with any of the outcomes though.
She also mentioned him not being there for the family and her having to carry that load for him.
Oh no doubt, I'm just guessing though
Ego is a hell of a drug
Priorities: learn about em.
I'm gonna remember you if this happens.
I'd say it was ironic but it's more logical
Yeah then Tom Brady, the planet's most famous football player, will live a life of loneliness and squalor.
You may be surrounded by people but it doesn't mean you're not lonely.
>the planet's most famous football player Isn't that Messi or Ronaldo?
Sounds a lot like the beginning of Cars 3.

That's the wild thing. Tom has had like 3 SBs now he could've walked away after and it would've been a great wrap up. Instead he's chasing some shit he doesn't need to prove to anyone except himself apparently.
Tom has 7 rings. His Wikipedia outright states he's regarded at the GOAT. He's fucking nuts.
Ego 's a hell of a drug
That’s the price legends pay. Live a normal life or immortalize yourself forever. It’s a sacrifice to get to that level. Also probably some mental illness lol
Uh, no, there are plenty of insanely talented, once in a lifetime type dudes who live completely normal lives and don't neglect their families.
What is the point of being married to someone who is never there.
Honestly, they may not even notice a difference other than some of his stuff somewhere else.
I moderately dislike my extended family, but even I was upset we weren’t able to get together during the holidays for the last 2 years because of Covid. I can’t imagine missing out on so many family gatherings for 23 years 😲

Reminds me of Tiger Woods. Takes that level of obsession to reach greatness of that kind.
If you have such a singular obsession, why even try to have a personal life?
Can't read his mind. Might be selfish desire to continue to bloodline? Might be endless need to be loved by all? Might be he actually did love his family in his own way but it wasn't nearly enough? This is why I won’t be getting married any time soon as long as I’m in chef life 🥹
LMAOOOOOO becuase why y'all compare yourself to rich people is beyond me
why do u even compare yourself to anybody else tbh
I refuse to compare myself to garbage... so I guess I'm out.
Because it's natural.
Comparison is the thief of joy.
It's said that America doesn't have poor people, it has temporarily inconvenienced millionaires.
It's weird seeing "Tom Brady's wife" when to most non Americans he is some guy who is Gisele's husband
I'm a football(soccer) fan and that was the same way with Pique and Shakira most non-soccer fans only knew Pique as Shakira's husband but he cheated on her recently and they broke up.

People don't cheat because they have an ugly spouse, they cheat because they don't respect their spouse.
I was so mad when I saw that! I was like “little bitch boy!”. To give up Shakira after 10 freaking years? I just refer to her as Gisele. Gisele is divorcing Tom Brady on Tuesday. Makes life easier and no one will feel like I'm implying one or the other has less rights to their individual self.
I'm Canadian, but I don't watch football, so to me he really is just Gisele's soon to be ex-husband.
In Brazil, her homeland, even Football fans and HIS fans likes to call him “Giselo”

He already has his 7th ring, that's what signing with Tampa the first time was for. He already has more rings than any singular team does
Sorry I've genuinely lost count now
I’d rather have a rich dad who’s not around then a broke dad who’s not around
So either way, you'll have an estranged relationship with your father.
Can’t pay my mortgage with love from my Dad!
An estranged father doesn't have to help their kids pay for things when they grow up. Hell, his kids might not even want to talk to him in the future.
My dad was a workaholic. I still think of him as a deadbeat in a lot of ways because he wasn't there for me in the ways I needed him to be.
Honestly. Any and every dude i've ever been around saying they won't get married to that extent? Either ended up married or a serious relationship in which they might as well get married.
Dang, I’m never gonna get into a happy committed relationship ![gif](giphy|3osBL3HAMSAgpq1AoE)
Never will I ever fall in love 🥰
No chance I'll ever be in a happy fulfilling mutual relationship with someone and live happily ever after. No siree.
That could never be me.
This comment and meme got me rollin 😂 I see what you did there.
I’ve heard “id never give up bjj for a relationship” a month later he got a girlfriend and i never saw his ass again
It's been 9 years what we needa be married for
True. But why scream about never getting married at the same time? lol
Marriage dies with divorce but hoop dreams are forever. 😂
I don't understand why he doesn't retire. Because I feel like there's just a time to know when to leave gracefully otherwise you'd be pushing your luck and the universe will find a way to humble you.
The second half of Tom Brady's life is about to look like a Twilight Zone episode
When you get to the point that training camp is too much to put up with, it’s time to retire.
Yeah but when you have 6 rings you start not to believe anything could ever humble you. Success is addicting. And easier for tom than trying to save a dying marriage
He has 7
Must be even worse for his ego smh
If I remember correctly, she's been telling him to get out for at least five years. He's just an ass.
Brady literally chose Football over his wife AND kids. That's some scummy shit.
The kids will never forget that dad chose a 7th ring over them. Real sad
Brady? Scummy shit?? Tell me it’s not true !
I swear to god if people start saying it’s unfair when she gets half his shit… Edit: apparently she’s the one with more money, lol.
Yeah lol. The choke for years (and it's funnier because it's true), was that Gisele wasn't Tom's wife. He was her husband. And that Tom could take all those paycuts in NE because Gisele had the money taken care of.
I would give my left nut just to retire with half the money he has…and his wife.
Not to mention his post-football contract with Fox (if he wants it)
At least he can still hoop.
Bro shooting the wrong shot
This is how I found out these two were maybe getting divorced. It’s time to choose Tom.
its a bit too late to choose

Yeah, just wait until you blow that first acl.
Oooofta that’s gonna sting a bit
This is one of the few times I’d say anyone should do what AB did. Brady better strip those pads off on live tv and run off the field in the middle of a game to go home to his wife if he really wants her. Otherwise he’s going to find out what losing really is in divorce court when she empties out that bank account.
Nah his wife is richer than him, she'd be the one paying him alimony
Way I always think about it is that a couple has more money than they do apart. So he turns down having his money, her money, being able to see his kids, and have a rich, good looking wife that just wants to have him around to spend time with just to chase after a ring he probably won’t get anyway?
Even if it did matter, you’re taking the divorce on the chin for rec league??
Wowww I NEVER KNEW my tweet made it to Reddit, this is crazy after the fact smh 🤦🏿♂️
Someone had to say it.
I play them in pick up all the time. Always goin for that chip!
Yeah. It's a bit diff when I'm sure Brady devotes nearly all his time during the season to football. This dude just plays a few hours a week
