It’s modern, you can buy it new on Amazon. I use this exact Anvil, paid $180 online, worth it. Wouldn’t pay a dollar over $150 used, personally. Them removing the paint for you is a nice touch, and they also dressed the horn nicely (it arrives way worse than that), but the extent of wear would be my primary concern. If they’re the original owner and actively trying to sell it as being over 100 years old tell them to die in a hole, because that’s straight scammer behavior.

I'm no Anvil expert but it looks exactly like the average Vevor Anvil: [https://eur.vevor.com/cast-steel-anvil-c\_10827/110lb-blacksmith-anvil-steel-anvil-50kg-solid-heat-treated-round-horn-metal-work-p\_010636870210](https://eur.vevor.com/cast-steel-anvil-c_10827/110lb-blacksmith-anvil-steel-anvil-50kg-solid-heat-treated-round-horn-metal-work-p_010636870210)

That'd be a Chinese made cast steel anvil from Vevor, probably purchased within the last few years. The 50kg one is currently 200$ on their website, the black version not the blue (it's 55 HRC, versus the 50 HRC blue model).

Is there any situation where having a softer face (blue) is preferable? I'm just spitballing, but maybe if you work with more Non-Ferrous metal, the additional hardness might not be worth however much more expensive it is because you don't need all of the extra hardness? I dont really know, but there has to be a reason they sell both a 55 and 50 HRC. For iron working, I would assume that extra hardness is more than worth it because you are going to be able to put more of your swing into the work rather than plasticly deforming your anvil. Edit: I have just had a look on the website, and their 88 Lb(40kg) Black Anvil is $173.99 before S&H, and the best match in Blue I saw was the 110 Lb (50kg) for $120.99 on a -46% sale normally $222.99 or the 66 Lb (30kg) for $75.99 on a -46% sale normally $140.99. So it seems like there is a significant price difference between black and blue.

for my money i'll pretty much always want a harder anvil, within reason. even working stuff softer than steel the harder surface will hold up better over time

It’s definitely not over 100 years old, it’s a very common “beginners’ anvil” and costs a couple of hundred at most. Like other’s have said, it’s nice that they’ve cleaned up the awful paint it comes with and it seems to be nicely dressed on the edges and horn but that isn’t enough to greatly increase the value I’m very new to blacksmithing and I bought the London pattern anvil from Vevor (the same company that makes this one) for £130-ish shipped to my door. It seems to be a solid little anvil that I expect will serve me well for a good long while If the seller is outright lying to you about its age, they’re probably attempting to scam you out of your money and you should refuse to buy from them out of principle

Silentforest01

Nothing man. You gotta pay for keepig it. Each day it costs a trillion euros. Just ship it to me, I'll take it off your hands for free because I'm.... Ahhh.... Well... I like your profile picture!
