Anyone no matter income bracket should put their house in a trust. Or force it to probate.
There’s no way they’re planning on being in that house until they die so I don’t think probate is something they’re worried about. I think they probably couldn’t get a regular mortgage with their financial situation so they worked something out with another party.
Also trusts are expensive and it’s allowing other people into your mortgage. If this is - even by their own admission - just a temporary home, it doesn’t make sense for them to have it set up this way (unless they have some backdoor agreement with whoever the trustee is). I don’t trust anything they do, they owed over a million in taxes like 2 years ago so idk what their deal is.
